Set of 4 Arched Victorian Farmhouse Porch Post Braces Corbels w/ Spindles - VGUC
Set of four arched Victorian or farmhouse style porch post brace corbels with turned spindles. These are solid wood and have been painted. The arched portion of all four measure 7" from the inner corner out in both directions. While the sections that mount against the post measure 10 1/8" in both directions on two of the corbels and 9 1/4" in both directions on the other two corbels. Arched sections are 1/2" wide; mounting sections are 1 1/2" wide. I can only assume that the difference is due to the fact that they were handmade for the porch and are not a mass produced product. Unsure of the age of these corbels, but most of the older homes in my area that have these date from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. While these could certainly be re-used on a porch, they would also make delightful shelf brackets or ... morecould be simply used as architectural pieces for display. Up for bid is a set of 8 or 9 pieces of architectural antique porch brackets. Also referred to as corbels, which make up 4 pairs. Each bracket spans 26-1/4" long across the soffit or frieze portion of your porch at a height of about 14-15" down from the frieze or soffit. Each bracket is approximately 1-3/4 to 2" thick and is painted with several coats of white paint. Most are in exceptional condition for their age, believed to be from the mid to late 1800's, though there are a few, which have a missing piece of wood here or there. There is also a portion of a ninth bracket, not complete that will be included, so that parts of this piece can be cut off to replace what might be missing on the others. Gorgeous ornate decorative brackets that came from a home that was built in the 70's. They are made out of some kind of metal possibly aluminum but sturdy like cast iron. Color is antique white. A soft wood, not sure what kind. They would need a good coating of stain/primer and painted. or leave unfinished. I really love the design on these, a really nice pattern. It would look great for shelving but would need some material to fatten them up a little. Cracks here and there, some areas may be missing a little wood. I show size using tape measure in last photos. Please look at the photos as always the best way to describe an item. I will try and keep paint as is, covering with paper first before additional packaging for shipping. Some paint chips may come off before you recieve, this is beyond my control. 2 Antique Architectural Salvage Wooden Porch Brackets Corbels for Porch Posts
For sale in this auction is a pair of porch brackets or porch corbels for decoration next to a porch post. These are off of a 100 year old house porch that was being torn down. They are made out of wood and most of the paint is gone. They measure approximately 14 inches long on the longest side and 12 inches long on the other side. They are approximately 3 1/4 inches wide on the back side. The tallest part of the decoration measures approximately five and half inches tall. They do have wear. Some cracking, lots of cobwebs and one corner has damage more than the rest. I tried to show that in the pictures. The photos of the back did not turn out well so I will be retaking them. If there are any other photos you would like to see.just let me know! The good stuff first! These are very OLD and large! These corbels will be a statement piece in any room of your home! Each one could be its own shelf or would be stunning as support brackets for a fireplace. Shelving, etc. The architexture from the turn of the century is slowly being destroyed house by house. These corbels are a great way to show how homes were built by craftsman. Dimensions are.drumroll.21 inches tall x 12 inches deep x 6 inches wide. They weigh a staggering 10 1/2 pounds each! These ... moreare truly one of a kind and when they are gone.they are gone. Aren't these great? I love to use vintage architectural pieces whether it's here on our alpaca farm or in the city. They are great conversation pieces and offer a myriad of uses! These are solid wood and I do not have the knowledge of what type of building they have come from. Corbels in our area are on homes that were built before the 1900s but they could be from the 20s or 30s as well. Uses that I have seen are a decorative piece that was used as a support bracket for the front porch but they were widely used in other aspects of decor as well. Usually they weren't weight bearing. I don't know why I just gave you a bit of history but there you go: I love the character of the paint but it is chipping and has loads of patina because this was an outdoor item. I would suggest spraying it with a clearcoat if you would like to preserve the finish. There are lots of dings and dents but are truly a beautiful piece for bookends. Underneath a fireplace mantle, bar support, etc. Some small pieces of wood trim are missing but it just gives them more character. Many truly unique uses and a great conversation
