Up for bid are two Antique Steel Corbel Brackets that were found in a house that was being remodeled. The house dated from 1892 so these could be from that period forward. The photos show the corbels to be pink in color. However they are off white in color. These corbels are made of steel and are hollow. There is only slight surface rust here and there on the corbels; no holes from rust nor none starting. They would clean up quite well with some paint stripping material applied. These would make a great addition to a historical remodeling project or just simply a great conversation piece if added to an interior decorating project. Set of 2 Two Vintage Antique Architectural Gold Paint Plaster Corbels Brackets !
Hi: For your consideration here is a nice set of two(2) vintage or antique sconces or brackets! These medium to large size pieces measure a bit over 8 1/4" from the top of the shelf to the bottom tip. And the surface area of the shelf top is about 9 3/8" wide by 4 1/2" deep which is the maximum depth they would stick out from a wall when mounted. The pieces weigh close to two pounds each unpacked. They are made of what appears to be white plaster or a similar material and the gold finish looks similar to gilders paste/paint. There is a small wire rod in the plaster with a twisted piece of wire on the back of each for hanging. Both are in good condition with no major loss or cracks. Both have light to dark spots or areas in the top shelf part(3rd photo from last) and the other has several small chips and related finish loss. ... moreThe'worst' chipped area is shown in the last photo but there is nothing that could not easily be touched up. Did they come from an old Amish home? We don't know, but most of the items brought into auction there are from the local area. They are a matched pair, 13.5" on the long side and just over 11" on the shorter side. They are 1 1/2" thick. Up for auction are this pair of great old antique bracket's. Made of iron. They are large measuring 15 3/8"x 15 3/8" x 1. One is about 3/8"1/2" shorter due to the tip doesn't look like it was drilled and has a little angle to it. The other has one piece of the curly turn broken offing the inside of the turned area. The original corbel molds for these hung along the top front of the house facade in French Gothic style. He also had an antiques store in the 1970s and sold these out of his store. We rescued these from his shed where they've been gathering dust for the last 30-40 years or so. You will see newer cast versions of corbels like this but these are truly taken from old molds. You can tell from the unevenness of the finish these are not factory done. Measuring: 6" tall with shelves of 4 3/4" w x 3 1/3" deep. Uneven finish gives these their character and ... morebeauty.
