The motif is of scrollwork and a single flower! Function/Use: Used for support the top shelf of a mantle. Savaged from European chateau in Prague. Lot consists of two(2) corbels; they are the same motif. But oweing to their hand-carved production there is some variation in the shappe. One of the flowers is more open than the other. Structure/Composition: Made of hand carved hardwood with dark brown stain. Unstained side shows little grain ands is light honey colored. So it could be poplar or oak. Wear-and-Tear: In excellent condition. Edges to the leaves are still crisp and unworn. Removal from wall was done well; however one corbel is missing a ... morechip on the backside and the other has a small crack on the side from their removal from the wall. Function/Use: Used for support the top shelf of a mantle. Savaged from European chateau in Prague. Lot consists of two(2) corbels. Structure/Composition: Made of hand carved hardwood with dark brown stain. Unstained side shows little grain ands is light honey colored. So it could be poplar or oak. Wear-and-Tear: In excellent condition; varnish is chipped in places. But no damage to the wood. Edges to the leaves are still crisp and unworn. Removal from wall was done well, no chips missing from the corbels; no pry marks or damage from the removal. The wood backing strip that the corbel is glue to is split, but the corbel itself is not. ANTIQUE 1870-80 Huge Architectural Wooden Corbels Shelf Brackets
These two corbels up for sale this week are from the east coast and ended up in a suburb of Chicago. Hinsdale which is a quite prestigious area. I was told they were going to be used in a"painted lady" but the deal fell apart, and these folks needed no more corbels. They are huge measuring 28 by 19 and show great weathering. They do not have any missing chunks but show wear as they are well over 100 years old. I am selling these together and will not split them up. They are a great pair.
