Nice older pair of carved wood corbels. Brackets, or shelf holders or whatever. An unknown type of wood, but if I were guessing, I would say walnut, has that Eastlake look. Interesting pieces of carved wood. Almost 8" long, 2 7/8" wide, and 1 1/8" thick. Have holes in the back for pegs to hold this on whatever if came off of. Has no finish that I can tell. May have originally held a shelf on an old pump organ, dresser, or dining room piece, maybe even off an old mantle. Anyway, very nice. A stunning hand carved antique corbel featuring the face of a bearded man. His headwear suggests he might be a knight or a saint(given that he's wearing a visor) and perhaps this corbel comes from a church. The origin is unknown. Corbel was removed from its original position and attached with a wire in the back to be hung up on a wall. Presumably 1800s. Item is in good condition for its age- the wood has expanded over time in some places causing some cracks and there is a chipping on the nose as well as above the face.
