This set appears to be a single Corinthian column cap salvage piece that has been cut in half and meticulously stripped& refinished with a wax coat. Both halves exhibit exceptional hand carved classical details in an unknown beautifully grained& heavy solid wood. The backsides of each have had 2 notched hanging brackets added allowing these very stylish pieces to be displayed on the wall as corbel sconces. Exact age is unknown. DIMENSIONS… Both are approximately 13 1/4” tall. The caps are 12 3/4” at there widest points and they are 6 1/4” at their deepest& just shy of 5 1/4” at their narrowest. Fabulous Solid Brass Wall Shelf Bracket CORBEL w Gallery Trim Hollywood Regency
Fabulous shiny brass wall shelf. This vintage find is one of the nicer corbels I've seen in a while. It features a brass gallery around the top which gives it almost a nautical feel. The pedestal portion has curved facets vertically ending in an acanthus leaf shaped bottom. It is solid brass and appears to be solid cast. This wall bracket is 10.5" from the bottom to the top of the shelf. The brass gallery at the top adds about another.5" It is about 9.25" wide at the top and about 1 and 3/8" wide at the bottom. The shelf protrudes 4.5" from the wall. There are two keyholes on the back for hanging. This wall shelf is quite heavy. At about 3.25 pounds. It is in really nice vintage condition. There are a few scuffs and minor scratches and could be polished if you chose to do this. We do not polish the items we find, ... morepreferring to leave the choice of vintage feel or newly polished to you. This wall bracket would look fantastic in the Hollywood Regency decor. This is an antique pair of carved. Gilt ogee shelves or corbels. These shelves/corbels were found at the estate of a world traveler. They are very heavy, likely 5-7lbs each. The primary wood appears to be black walnut with a secondary wood of oak. This pair shows some minor chipping showing a base gesso covered by a reddish color and then gold coloration. These have some good age to them, and do have some old evidence of worms(not active) They measure 13" long by 5 1/2" high. by 6 3/4" deep. The actual tops are 11 1/2" long by 6" deep. This piece was molded from an 18th century wooden trim off from France. This plaster piece we're selling was made in the 1970s by a local artisan and antiques dealer in Memphis. This is wonderful and is a large corbel shelf that would add a nice architectural touch to your room. Besides being used as a shelf if you wanted to! It has a nice shape and wonderful detailing. It is made of fiberglass with a wood shelf at the top. It looks like it was painted this pretty shade of soft bluish gray at one time, and has some paint loss. scratches and marks for a nice look. At the center at the bottom, below the curved sides, there looks like there might have been another little piece on each side, which is missing, as I show in my close ups. They have decorative scallop profile& measure 5”W x 8 ¾”L x 1 ¾” thick. Great as they have 2 sets of recessed metal hangers for flush mount to wall& placement in either direction depending upon how wide a shelf board you want to use. Condition: pre-owned in good used condition. Have some small dings dents& chips on edge or in the wood typical to age& use. Note no warp& all 4 sit flush to wall in both directions. These are heavy duty brackets& recommend using mollies with screws for best stability on wall. We’ve wiped them down good& rubbed in lemon oil to refresh the wood grain. Could use a wipe with stain.
