This is an Eastlake-style pediment and my best guess is that it's off a dresser or a mirror. It is carved and the arch is an applique. The oak has no stain or varnish left on it and is quite lovely in that it's survived to find a new use as a decorative wall hanging. It is 22" long. 7" high and a little more than an inch thick.

I have just about everything, from the very old and primitive to the very unique with some fabulous folk art thrown in too! I’ll be listing all week, so keep checking back! loveLoveLOVE this one- and it's brother. Which I will be listing next. Last year, I purchased one of these panels from an elderly gentleman who goes to the flea market every once in a while, in an attempt to clean out a garage that he says is packed. I have not seen him since my last purchase(and sold the other one) so was thrilled when I stumbled upon him again last week, and bought both of the pieces that he brought. This listing is for the piece that you see in my photos(one piece) and I will be listing the other one next ... moreso be sure to check that one out, too. According to what the man told me, he and his brother were in the door business- they sold new, and also reclaimed doors. He told me that this panel came from a door that was removed during a remodeling of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Chicago on 21st. St. He said that he really wanted the doors, but they were too big for him to be able to store, so what he did was remove the panels from the inserts, used some, and has kept the rest for years. Now, I found the church's website, but could not find a date that it was built. I'm guessing in the mid to later mid 1800s, as the church's address is 2108 W. 21st, and I also found the school which is 2101-2107 21st. I did find a date for the building of the school, which was 1882. This is a beautiful, rustic, primitive solid wood panel that has hand carved detail and a beautiful worn rusty-brown painted finish. The carving in the center looks like a daisy or flower to me- see what you think. You can see the unpainted, 3/4" perimeter of the panel where it used to fit in the door- the wood have a very dark patina and shows lots of wear. The back is not finished- I'm assuming

Vintage Cherub Themed Plaster Pediment. This was removed from a very ornate building in Northern California. It measures 39"x 11" and ranges from 2-3" thick. It weighs a whopping 17lbs. There are 8 holes for screws to attach it to a wall or.It is so heavy I can see why you would need so many screws to secure it. The finish appears to be Gold Leaf which is flaking off. This is a salvaged item and I have included photos from all angles so you can see and make your own determination of condition. This would be spectacular in your garden or placed above a grand entrance gate or doorway. It is beautifully done. I have had this for decades and hard times force me to sell very reluctantly as I know this is such a rare find. I was told by the widow that I bought it from. Which was in her garden at the time.that her husband brought it down from atop an old historic Chicago hotels very detailed front archway facade entrance during a remodeling. Sometime within the 1940's-60's. I don't know the actual production date of manufacture although there are many markings on it which might aid someone in narrowing down the artisans plant or kiln factory. They had removed each section.Piece by piece and he managed to talk his foreman into letting him place it into the back of his late 40's sedan car. Maybe the North Wind) Each face measures about 14 inches tall by 17 inches wide and is 4 ½ inches deep. I don’t know the age or origin of these pieces. They have some minor damage– missing pieces. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. The right side has return moldings. The left side does not. This wood pediment is in all original as found condition and exhibits the old painted finish and aged patina. It is wood but not heavy so hanging it will not be an issue. The original hanging hardware is intact and exhibits an old rust patina. Perfect. to hang over a doorway of course or even over a buffet or sofa. Wonderful Vintage Architectural/Furniture Salvage Pediment. Beautiful carved piece with lots of detail! It is made of a lighter weight wood. But I do not know what kind. It has a chippy white paint over a wood stain. It measures 35" long x 4-1/4" tall at tallest point. As you can see in the last photo, there is a triangle shaped piece on the back that was used to mount it to the original piece. This could be pried off if you were wanting to wall mount it. Up for auction is a wonderfully carved victorian walnut crest. There is some wear and small chips but the worst is the curl on the left end is missing(see last picture) The crest is about 9" long and 3 1/2" tall. The piece is about 2" wide. The pegs are 4 1/8" on center. The portion where the pegs are is indented 1 7/16" The crest is being sold as found.
