Iron pieces are commonly found on Fon altars and the iron is said to be a powerful medium used in voodoo(vodun) spirituality or religious practices. In the various districts of communities altars would be dedicated to deities with specific attributes and powers. The use of such symbols is not fully documented. Symbols like this iron phallus example.
