CHARMING ART DECO PERIOD MAHOGANY FRAME– CIRCA 1920’s– WITH ORIGINAL FINISH. Contains a print from the same period– may even be a partial pencil drawing. Or maybe pencil signed by the artist. The print is in it’s original frame. So it’s difficult to tell. The print and the frame are circa 1920’s. A doctor. With his black bag, is listening to the young woman’s breathing, with his head against her back. Standing at the foot of the bed, is the chaperon, the guardian angel, watching everything going on. Lower right side of print says L’ANGE GARDIEN. Translated from French to be guardian angel. The print may be French or European- there is a name on the lower left edge– looks like G. HOFFMAN? The print is double matted. With some very slight discoloration on the lower right corner of the mat– hardly noticeable. The frame measures 16 inches by ... more19 ½ inches from the outside edges. Large antique Aesthetic Period picture frame/gold leaf/beautifully crafted
A large and very impressive antique frame of the American Aesthetic Period. Circa 1880-90. It is oak with wonderful and sophisticated decoration and design. It looks like the oak is washed in gold and the decorative elements around the borders are finished with gold leaf. There are also some black paint appointments on some of the flowers and the beading. I don't know who made this frame but it is of the best craftsmanship. There are some numbers on the back that may be a clue to the maker. Overall size of the frame is 31" by 36. Interior rabbet is 22" by 27. Condition is as found and as shown. There are a few beads lost and the interior liner shows some loss by rubbing- probably a maid with a water-based cloth that removed some of the leaf. The patina is great and might even be better once dusted and cleaned up a bit. The carved areas of the frame are framed themselves by solid boarders which gives this frame a rich aesthetic feel. The very inner portion of the frame has what I think is a thin gesso area which nicely compliments the larger areas of ornate carvings. Another interesting find from my stored inventory. Last seen at the latest in 2002. Beginning in 1985, I started a business as an Antique Textiles dealer setting up at Antique Shows in Texas. I always included small decorative items for sale with the textiles for contrast and variety. THIS STUNNING FRAMED PRINT WAS IN MY FINAL INVENTORY. It was never placed for sale. It's just been packed away since I found it at a Dallas estate sale in around 1990. Antique Regency Period frame w/ portrait, LOW ASKING PRICE, GREAT CONDITION!
Up for sale is an antique regency period framed print. I originally purchased this at a flea market in Alameda. CA for a much higher price. Wooden frame is mahogany with painted gold border. Measures 9" high X 8" wide. Frame and print are in great condition. The back has some writing in pencil, which you can see in the pictures provided above. Perhaps this can help solve the mystery of the picture's origins? I am unsure of the artist that created the original artwork, but can easily assign the print's style to the regency period. The female sitter's hair and dress echo some of the fashion templates that we associate with the Jane Austen Era. Please note: I am selling the mate to this picture in another auction. The way this frame is constructed, you could actual remove the inner most liner and it would hold a 20 ¾” by 31” painting. You could also remove the velvet liner and it would then hold a 22” by 32” American painting. As you can see in our close up photographs, there is some surface and edge wear to the original 2-color gilded surface. Also, the velvet liner has wear to the surface.
