Vintage French style Louis XVI old Gilt ornate picture frame Antique 1800's
This is an old antique frame from a Maine estate. Frame measures outside 18" X 22" Picture space 12 1/4" X 16 1/4" Lips are 5/16" I believe this frame is all wood because there is not any flaws or cracked gesso. If it is gesso moldings they are in excellent condition. There are a few drips of what seems to be white paint probably picked up from wall painting where it was hanging. Can see an old auction lot number on corner back. Old style I'm guessing at least 19th century maybe older. Old gilt has a brownish fade. Two of the corners have a visable nail hole. Measures 27 x 33 ins. in total size, and the inner rabbet is 18 3/16th x 24 3/16th ins with molding about 5 ins. wide.A 18 x 24 painting will fit in here. It appears to be carved wood, not resin or composite, real wood. It also has compo or as some people say gesso ornamentation on the surround. XLNT Antique Louis Wolf Hand Colored Tannhauser Print Arts Crafts Gilt Frame
This is an excellent antique hand colored print titled"Tannhauser" possibly depicting a scene from the medieval opera, Tannhauser" It was printed in 1915 by Louis Wolff& Co. in London and is in it's original frame with original wavy glass. The print is hand colored in soft tones of blue and red and has a fantastic sepia background. The frame has the original polychrome finish; gold gilt around the outer and inner borders, on the ornately designed gesso crest, and the beautifully carved corners, with a marbled band around the middle, and blue, orange, and red highlights on the crest. The finish is excellent with only some very minor finish loss on the lower right corner, visible in the photos, and a few tiny chips elsewhere. It is all-original and hasn't been restored, repaired, or re-painted anywhere. All corners ... moreare tight and the crest is firmly attached. The hanger is a decorative piece of rope that looks original. The print is also excellent with no visible damage. The paper backing is no longer intact, but the piece of cardstock with the title on it that was once attached to the backing is still taped on. Outer measurements of the frame are 27 1/2" x 19" and the print measures 24" x 13" It will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.
