This custom carved and metal leaf frame dates ca. 1915-1935 and comes from a wealthy several- generation Chicago household. It measures 35” x 43” overall with 30 ½” x 38 ¼” 1” deep rabbet and a reveal of 29 ½” x 37 ¼” The pictures speak well for this frame. Showing the crisp hand carving, and stable antique metal leaf surface with warm areas of wear. There are some miter gaps evident. The quality is similar to Newcomb macklin, but I have never seen them use corrugated fasteners on large frames. The wood appears to be pine of some sort and the design is similar to many Foster Brothers. This is a great period molding that would be appropriate for a museum-class artwork.
