The Psalm of Communal Lament" We are very please to be able to ... moreoffer for your consideration this professionally tab mounted and framed 17th Century vellum of Psalm 44 The calligraphy on this vellum is hand penned. Our expert tells us it was most likely taken from a privately owned, and or, commissioned book of Psalms. We believe this because it is without illumination, and markings for musical notations. It is beautifully mounted on a fabric back board with corner tab mounts. The vellum is scribed in Latin, on both sides, or recto inverso. Shadows of the letters on the reverse side can be faintly seen through the text of the front. From the look of the font style, the peculiar punctuation, and the vellum used, our expert dates it to the 17th century. The passage is a portion of Psalm 44, or the Psalm of Communal Lament. According to our Latin translator it is verses 9 through 13. In these verses, the Psalmist laments that God has been slow to act, and has a responsibility to save these people from their enemies. The frame measures 23 1/8 inches wide. By 30 1/2 inches tall, by 1 5/8 inches deep. The frame is nice and deep, providing adequate space to accommodate the ripples in the vellum. The frame is finished in a dark brown stain, and is distressed. The back is covered in heavy brown paper with sealed edges. This piece weighs approximately 8 pounds. Condition- This framed antique framed vellum is in wonderful condition. There are no visible flaws that we can see. It is signed at the bottom. A New York Company. I am not sure if it has any value. The condition is fair, it has a small hole and the edges are flaking. But you can fill this frame with a painting. BlackPicture Frame-17 3/4" x 14 1/2"-13 3/8" x 10 3/8" Interior-1 3/8" Deep
A very nice solid black frame. I believe it is wood and pressboard. But I can't guarantee that. It has three hooks that allow for hanging it horizontally or vertically. It breaks into 5 pieces-the inner slope piece of the frame is in two parts, but is held together by outer piece(Star pattern in third picture is from overhead lights reflecting) There are dings, nicks, and scrapes on several spots around the frame. They are smaller. One corner looked like it had been broken and glued before I got it and one was broken when I got it, that one was glued. It would look good with a new coat of paint or would be good for a custom paint design. A picture is not included.

It measures 18 1/2 x 23 1/2 ins. in total, and 12 1/2 x 17 1/2 ins. approx. on the insert rabbet. It has a inner gilt slip liner inside as well. The frame used to house an antique engraving, circa late 1800s. It is in fair as is condition with some minor surface chips, wear to the finish, miter separations at the corners. Still sturdy and intricately carved.It has a definite Spanish or Mexican look about it, it may possibly be one or the other but the engraving was not either one.
