Beautiful antique Victorian Eastlake hand painted gold accented shadow box frame. This piece is in overall good antique condition. With some wear from age to the frame. It has some slight nicks, but no big chips. Very nice piece. There is a chip to the wood piece that holds the pictures in place, it won't be seen when it is in use. Great estate find! This nicely preserved 1880s frame was converted to a shadow box back in the 1950s or 60s. It could easily be reversed by removing the plywood on the back if you like. The frame measures 12 ½” x 14 ½” with a reveal of 7 ½” x 9 ½” and a back opening of 8” x 10” The depth of the box is 3 ¾” overall; 3 3/8” without the rabbet. For your consideration is this Antique Victorian Shadow Box Frame With Allegorical Print This antique Victorian shadow box frame measures approximately 13 3/4" in length. 8" in height, and 1 1/2" in thickness. It contains an allegorical print approximately 10" in length and 4" in height. The print depicts an allegorical scene with an inscription in Greek across the bottom. A wire hanger is attached to the back of the frame. Seven small nails hold the back in place. A piece of antique glass with small bubbles does protect the print or whatever picture/print the buyer desires to use the frame for. CONDITION: The print is in good condition except for a small crease in the top right corner and a few small fleabite size marks. FRAME EXTERIOR: 12x14" Frame is about 2 3/8th" deep! FRAME HOLDS ART OR MAT THAT'S 10x12" CONDITION: In well-worn condition. Black moulding strip adjacent to gilt liner on left side is missing. Leaving a gap that isn't terribly noticeable but nonetheless there. Rubbing, soiling and staining to moudling resulting in loss of finish in a few rubbed spots. Moulding joint gaps a bit wider than normal. Frame liner partially loose, but that won't matter when it's hanging on the wall. All new hardware is installed, ready to hang. Old wavy glass present. I have seen this scene carved in wood on hundreds of Hunt Cabinets and painted in Oils but this is the first time I have seen it in 3D. The shadow box measures approx 34” tall and 29” wide and projects about 5” from the wall. The back of the cabinet“bellies” to accommodate the ducks– see pictures. The cabinet I believe is made of walnut and features a wide(4” and detailed profile featuring a Barley Twist. The cabinet is lined with deep. Eastlake- Hitchcock Style Description: This is a pair of antique Victorian shadow box picture frames that are an Eastlake-Hitchcock style. They measure approximately 14 1/8" tall. 12 1/8" wide, and 2 1/8" deep each. The glass panes measure approximately 9 3/4" long and 7 1/2" wide. The style"Eastlake" comes from Charles Locke Eastlake(1837-1901) who designed simple, yet beautiful frames in contrast with overly, ornate frames of the day. This frame is designed with different stepped layers that are alternately painted a lovely chocolate brown and gold. These wood carved, gold gilt frames are absolutely magnificent and would add warmth and beauty to any room. Condition: These antique frames are knicked and scratched in various ... moreareas. Especially around the edges. Some of the gold paint has chipped away. They have been wiped down, but you may want to clean them yourself. You are looking at 1 of 2 matching Shadow Box Frame with portrait Glass. I purchase the pair at an Estate Sale in Newport Road Inland. This frame is made of wood and has a few minor scratches. The frame is in very good condtion for its age. Around 1810-1830. The Flowers and molding on the frame are all intact. There is a nice 1/2" wide white trim that border's the inner part of the frame. The painting is a portrait of a woman in a black dress and a white collar. I don't know who it is in the painting or who painted the p. I didn't take the painting out of the frame to check. I just love these deep antique shadow box frames. I have graduation pictures of all of my children in them- so much nicer than a cheap plastic frame. This walnut shadowbox has the intact gold liner. It is carved on the outer edge making it unique. The wood is in excellent shape but is dusty and needs a good polishing. The frame outside dimensions are 12" by 14 1/2" The inside section that will show your print is designed to hold and 8 by 10. This is an old antique 19th Century Victorian era shadow fox frame with its original stunning porcelain plate with the blue beehive mark and a Mother and daughter portrait. This is fresh off the wall of the parlour of a well decorated Victorian grand home in KC. It was stunning in that room that also had a grand piano. The shadow box frame is 16" by 16" by 2 1/2" The black shadow box has a little wear to the black patina on left lower corner that would be easy to touch up or ignore. The inner gold gilt frame is stunning and in wonderful condition. The glass is original with waves you all love. I opened it up to check out the plate and seen it has a 1 1/4" hairline on the rim on the back. See photo 11 and 12. It looks like the nail could of done this decades ago. I did not remove the plate. The front seen through the glass ... morelooks to be in excellent condition. Since the plate has a hairline I would say the main value is in the shadow box frame. The gold liner has an interesting design. The pictures do not give the frame justice. The frame is 13" by 11" and 2" deep. But never seen one like this, with the wooden leaf adornments in the corners. The leaves are similar to those found on frames generally called Adirondack or primitive style. It's possible that this was a one-off experiment in a frame shop. The addition to the leaves appears to have been original to the frame. As square nails are used to hold them in place. Here's a specific list of irregularities in an effort to fully disclose its antique charm: Frame is in lovely antique condition with visible age appropriate/ age-related use marks. Surface marks, imperfections, including a few nail pokes visible on front of frame; some gold worn off of gilded liner piece, baring a little plaster; finish worn off of walnut here and there. And many age marks on walnut wood. Glass itself appears to be original and has a few visible irregularities. Shadow box itself is obviously handmade and is primitive in construction. Antique Victorian Deepwell Shadow Box Picture Frame with J. Gould Audubon Prints
These are 2 matched beautiful. What I believe is walnut, Victorian age deep well/shadow box picture frames. Both still have the old wood backing and glass. They are 12"x14" frames with inset area approximately 8"x10" There are beautiful carvings in the black area and then gold in the very center. There are only minor scuffs and nicks that carry with frames that are around 100 years old. Good condition overall. Holes exist on the back where the hanging wire once was, but is no longer. In addition to the frames, the winning bidder will also receive both J. Gould prints already in the frames. The prints are still in good condition with the exception being on the right side of one of the prints there is some fraying of the paper within the frame(this can be seen in the picture) The paper has also aged a little. Measuring 20 1/8" x 17 1/8" They have a depth of 2 3/4" The actual picture area is 12" x 9" The gold gilt is in gorgeous condition. The black outer frame has scuff marks in the paint and a few small dents here and there. A great distressed look! They could easily be touched up with paint if wanted though. This is a lovely antique Victorian shadowbox picture frame. It is in very good condition. With some minor wear to the finish along the outer edges, limited to a few areas not entire frame. It appears to have been repainted some where in time. However it looks very well done. The frame consists of 3 layers. The top layer of the frame is Black with carvings that are highlighted with silver paint. The second layer is silver colored. The layer closest to the glass is black with a design of rings linked together. The rings are highlighted with gold tones! Its truly a delightful looking frame. The outer dimensions of the frame are approx. 15 and 1/4 by 13 and 1/4 inches. Inner dimensions of frame are approx- 9 and 1/2 by 7 and 1/2 inches. Two Victorian Deep Well Walnut? Picture Frames with Gold/Shadow Box/Wood/1800's
Up for auction are these two beautiful Victorian wooden deep well frames. I bought these about 30 years ago at an antique store thinking I would frame something in them. And I never have. The frames are about 13" by 12" outside measurement and inside is about 7 3/4" by 9 1/2" They have gold trim on the inside of frames. From the glass to the outside of frame is about 2 1/2" and the frames have they original glass with all the imperfections found in old glass. Back of frames have the original wood backing and hardware and wires. These would be beautiful with old family pictures inside. The frames are not in perfect condition, but when you are about 100 years old you are not perfect. Not sure of the age of these but I would think late 1800's early 1900's.
