Beautiful cast iron frame with lots of detail. Self standing model with a kick out foot in back. Appears to be a reproduction of the original. The original frame had screws and bent wires to hold in the photo at the back. This one has pins and tabs which indicates that it is a reproduction of that old frame. Still a vintage reproduction at that and very attractive. I saw an original of this frame at an antique store this week and you cannot tell the difference from the front. This is a beautifully made. Very heavy French gilt bronze photo frame from the 19 th century. It looks very architectural to me– like a gable with a pediment. The bronze has been very deeply sculpted with great detail. There are lion’s heads along the sides and intricate design work all around. Leg stand rotates. The piece at the back unscrews to insert a photo. One of the screws appears to be stuck but would be easy to replace or repair. At the center of the crown. A bit of the gold has worn away revealing the bronze underneath. Displayed on its own or as part of a grouping. It will add grace and charm to any room. The molding is about 4 ins. wide and it is a deep well with painted black ebonized lines on the surround. The frame is in FAIR as is antique condition, with some minor scrapes, scratches, some inner gilt gesso chipped off the slip liner, some black ebonized lines wearing away, and some miter corner separations. It is fairly sturdy, but could be stabilized further by re-gluing. It has a bit of old whitish paint at one side back corenr, unseen from the front and coudl probably be cleaned off if it bothers you. Please be aware this frame is approx. 1t is about 150+ years old. So will not be perfect like a new repro one. Heavyly ornated wooden frame. I don't know the age of this frame. It looks to be carved with the details added, I don't know if they are wood or a gesso/composite, all very solid, nothing is loose or chippy. It is gold with red showing under, which makes the edges, seams showing to look to be on purpose, since none are loose. Measures just under 3" thick. Outside measurement is 16.5" x 18" The oval measures 7 1/4" x 9" in the front with the openning in the back of about 8 1/4" x 10 1/4" Can be used with the existing picture, or changed out for another picture, mirror or over a small wall hanging for a shadowboxed look- a cherub would be darling!
