It is a beautiful countryside with a Dutch windmill and barn next to the water's edge. A sa ilboat is out in the water. The grass is tall along side th e path. It's very difficult to find one of these paintings without some flaking or damage. There is a spot in the middle of one barn that I originally thought was fog. I didn't even realize the painting was missing as you see the cardboard backing. It can be touched up or even substitu te a darker piece of paper behind it and you won't even notice it. There was really old tape on the back of the frame that I removed. The glass and backing need to be ta ped back into the faux tiger eye frame. I ... morehave been debating about whether to do that or not before shipping. I'm almost inclined to totally w rap the glass for shipping and allow the buyer to tape it back together and I think it has a better chan ce of making it intact. If you buy it. Description: This auction for a Barbour Silver Co. silver plate picture frame. This picture frame is in very good condition with some light scratches. The frame measures 13 3/8" tall and 9 3/4" wide. The base of the frame is marked as pictured below with the Barbour Silver Co. maker's mark and 3465. Information on Barbour Silver Despite the great interest in Barbour silver- many people own it. Apparently- information on its history is sketchy. Here's what researchers at the Connecticut Historical Society uncovered: In 1881 or 1882. Samuel Barbour moved from Chicago to New Haven, Conn. where he and his brother Charles joined in forming the Barbour Brothers Co. At this point, they were only marketers of silverplate products made by I. J. Steane& Co. of Hartford. But the brothers were operating in Hartford by no later than ... more1889, since the Geer's city directory for that year contains the listing, Barbour Bros. Co. silverplated ware mfgs. 64 Market St. Market Street, located downtown, has been altered greatly since then. In 1892. A decade or so after its formation, the brothers' original partnership was succeeded by the Barbour Silver Co. which also succeeded Steane& Co. Vintage Dutch Barbizon Baroque Ornate Gold Frame 12 X 16 Opening
This is a beautiful vintage Dutch or Barbizon or Baroque ornate gold frame. It's called various different names on eBay so I've included them all. It dates circa 1930s or 1940s. Overall it measures 15 1/2 inches x 19 1/2 inches(39.4 cm x 49.5 cm) The back opening size is 12 1/8 inches x 16 1/8 inches(30.8 cm x 41 cm) The molding width measures 1 7/8 inches(4.8 cm) The detail on this frame is really lovely and the gold and red colors are just beautiful. It's made of wood with applied composition decoration. Though it does look like a hand carved frame. It's well-made and in great shape. It was definitely made by a skilled and talented framemaker at a good studio. Names such as Newcomb Macklin and Foster Brothers come to mind. ANTIQUE DUTCH BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE IN A FRAME OF A EUROPEAN TOWN. The very old and very neat wooden framed photo measures nearly seven inches in height and more than nine inches in width. The picture is what I believe to be a Dutch town in Holland but I am not 100% sure. It came out of an estate in a Historic part of West Palm Beach and that is what I was told. There is a large Windmill in the middle of the picture. A sign on the front of the building on the left says something"Cacao" something. The building second from the right in the picture has a sign on it the reads"Behangerli en Stoffeerbern" It looks like. The Historic buildings in the picture are very old and unique and have a great deal of character. There are extremely interesting people placed throughout this picture also. Vintage Dutch Style Picture Frame ex- Museum, ex- Sotheby's, 16x21" 16 x 21"
First off. Let me say I am not a frame expert, so please bear with me. This auction is for a high quality vintage(and perhaps antique) Dutch Style Frame. The exterior dimensions are 27" x 32-1/4" x 2-1/4" The current rabbet dimensions are 16" x 21-1/2" It looks like one end of the rabbit was lengthened by about 1/4" to 1/2" so the original rabbet was probably 16" x 21" The sight window is about 15" x 20-1/4" The width of the frame is 6" on each side. This frame and the painting that was in it was previously displayed for many decades at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. Nebraska and the tattered museum label is still attached to the back. The museum accession number(1934.26) is also written on the frame. I recently verified that this frame and the painting was indeed in their collection ... morefor many decades. It was deaccessioned in 1994. I recently purchased the frame and the German antique painting that was in it, but I have decided to switch out the frames, so I am selling this one. The painting inside the frame was painted in 1867, however, I don't think the frame was originally with the painting, as the rabbet appears to have been slightly lengthed to accommodate it. The painting was donated to the museum in 1934, but I'm not sure that the frame was with it at that time. I frankly do not know enough about frames to tell you when or where it was manufactured, but it definitely shows signs of many decades of age. The gold leaf along the inner edge shows age cracks that must have taken many decades to develop. If you are a frame expert and can tell me more about this frame I will post the info. What I can tell you is that this is a very well made frame that was on display in a major museum. It also sold with the painting at Sotherby's New York on 1-19-95(Lot 527) When I bought the painting and frame this year. Antique Dutch Style Rippled Wavy Carved Frame 10 5/8 X 15 3/4 Opening
This is a very good looking antique Dutch style ripple/ wavy carved frame. I would estimate it dates from the 1920s. Overall. It measures 19 1/2 inches x 24 7/8 inches(49.5 cm x 63.2 cm) The back opening size is 10 5/8 inches x 15 3/4 inches(27 cm x 40 cm) The molding is very wide at just under 5 inches(12.4 cm) The frame is very thick at 1 3/4 inches(4.5 cm) I'm convinced this frame is European for two reasons. First. Its design. Second, the dimensions are exact in centimeters which usually distinguishes a European frame. I'm not sure what type of wood was used. But it's quite beautiful. I'm sensing it's oak, though. The wavy/rippled site edge and outer rim design is made of carved wood. There are wood slats holding the inner sections of the frame together for reinforcement and nails on the outside. Structurally. It's ... morevery sound. As you can see in the photos. The corners don't line up exactly, so there's some space there. This was either due to shrinkage or it was originally cut a little off. There are a few light nicks around the edges. There is one small chip out of the top right corner(please see photo) But nothing that takes away from the overall look of the frame. The patina just can't be beat. It's a beautiful. Rich color. There is no glass. It was definitely made by a skilled framemaker. It would be great for an old oil painting. Drawing, folk art work, sampler, fraktur, silhouette, etc. It weighs a hefty 8 lbs. 1 oz. 3.66 kg) It has what I always look for in frames. That wonderful old world look!

18th century Germany Dutch oil painting with French frame
This a gorgeous mid 18th century Dutch oil painting. And a beautiful late 18th century gold French fame. The Dutch oil painting Height is 18 in, Length 23in. The oil painting doesn't have a signature from the artist, but it could be underneath the frame. The oil painting has cracks in it as you can tell in the pictures, but the lower right bottom is the worst area, but for a mid 18th century oil panting it's in excellent shape. Where the art of chip carving has been perfected over many generations comes this Frisian circular frame custom fitted with a saucer and measuring 9 1/4" the bevelled display opening is 4" across.
