This is a super piece of Royal Bonn ceramic(porcelain? Old Dutch line. It is also a great example of art nouveau, or considering where this was made, jugendstil design. The fantasy floral motif, with the undulating tendrils, and the tiny detail work of spots and circles is reminiscent of the work of Mucha in his finest prints and posters. This great piece is 5 ¼” high, and 4 ½” across, a very manageable size for any shelf, or table top. It is marked, as shown, on the bottom. It has glaze crazing throughout, and there are numerous dust bumps in the glaze. There is some discoloration(staining? under glaze) on the interior of the mouth and neck of the piece, as seen in the one pic. There are no chips or cracks on this fine piece. This is for a lovely stylised arts& crafts Goberg matchbox holder in the form of an owl. The owl is seen from both sides and has brass eyes and beak with space in between that holds the matchbox. The base is clearly marked Rasper. Austria and was made by Hugo Berger(working as Goberg) during the early 1900's. It is made from hand wrought steel and it is in excellent condition with no damage anywhere and a nice deep patina to the metal. Description This antique circa 1900 WMF German Art Nouveau wine carafe. Is hand blown in clear crystal glass of rounded form with wrythen mould blown swirling ribbed pattern. It is fitted to the top with a nickle collar with shapely spout and hinged lid with thumb piece and an applied curved rod handle. This lovely piece is marked to the collar'WMFN' and'O' in a triangle, the'N' probably stands for nickle silver and would have been silver plated, which still remains on the inside of the lid and top of the collar beneath the lid. The plating has been polished away on the outside revealing the nickle body. The glass body has a ground and polished base with star cut centre pattern and it is in good condition with only some very minor, hard to see cloudiness, near the bottom. A RARE PAIR OF ORIVIT ELECTROPLATED JUGENDSTIL VASE BASES - c.1906
The ORIVIT AG. was founded in 1894 as"Rheinische Broncegieserei fur Kleinplastiken" in Koln-Ehrenfeld(Germany) by Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schmitz(1863-1939) From 1896. They began the production of luxury items with the so called ORIVIT metal: 89,85% pewter; 7,9% antimony; 1,9% copper and 0,12% silver. In 1901/02. ORIVIT built a new factory in Köln- Braunfels and began to use the new revolutionary press"the Huber–Presverfahren" In 1905 the Company was in a total financial collapse and the WMF, the famous German metalware company. Bought ORIVIT. Source: Google] These lovely vases are so characteristic of the unique designs of Orivit. They have the mark used after the WMF takeover. They also would have had glass trumpet inserts. Hence the low start. A pair of early Jugendstil silver plated vase bodies, The design features ... morethe curled stalks of Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil but with the characteristic verticals of German design pre-1924. A water jug by F. R. Fischer. Germany, pre-1915* Please scroll down for more pictures The jug is of spherical form with cup-shaped lid and curving thumb-rest and raffia covered handle. The jug itself is executed in hand hammered copper while the spout. Thumb-rest and handle in brass. It has interior pewter plating and bears the Fischer factory mark(two fish in an oval) the underside. Size: It stands at about 22 cm or 9 inches in height. Condition: Very good original condition. With only minor surface signs of age and use. There are no significant damages- just a couple of minor bumps to the metal. The fragile raffia handle is fragile but in good condition. This is a historically significant and extremely rare find dating from the end of the Art Nouveau period. A significant precursor of modernism. This design is held in the collection of ... morethe Bröhan Museum of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalism, in Berlin and illustrated and described in the museum's catalogue, Modern Art of Metalwork, on page 155. Another example of this jug is on display at the Bauhaus Archiv in Berlin. It also appeared in the Deutsches Warenbuch of 1915 and bears close comparison to contemporary Deutscher Werkbund pieces by Peter Behrens. Which to my eye is more Art Deco than Art Nouveau, that is a variant of the Streifen und Flecken decor popularized by Loetz and Kralik. This"Wirbelt und Flecken" decor, however, is uniquely Kralik's design and comes in various color combinations(see here for other pictured examples of this decor: http:www.kralik-glass.com/kralikswirlsspotsarray.html) This decor commonly goes by the simple"swirls and stripes" moniker. Very Unusual and Early European Secessionist Arts& Crafts Copper Candle Sticks The Pair is 6" tall and the bases are 4 1/2" by 4 1/2" No makers mark. But the tops have several patent numbers from France, Spain and"Eng(lish) Letters" It is thought that the patent may have been for the open work style. Maybe to allow one to scrape the candle nubbins out. Both of the stick are in decent condition. One is a bit lose on the base, but there is no major damage. This stick has some very light green patina in a few places, and they both need a light cleaning. Other than a random surface scuffs they quite nice. Nice even coloration of the patina other than the slight green area. I stand by my descriptions. Art Deco WMF Jugendstil Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik Germany Copper Vase
Art Deco vase made in Germany by WMF. Jugenstil Wurttembergische Mettalwarenfabrik. Large brass vase with pewter handles. Art Deco style with embossed geometric detailing on the front and back and nicely curved handles. The vase measures 9 1/4" high not including the handles, 12 1/4" across from handle to handle and 7 3/4" in diameter across the top not including the handes. The bottom of the vase appears to be silverplate with WMF mark- see photo. No cracks or breaks. There are a three surface indents on the bottom rim, does not detract from this great piece. We can't find a makers mark but the letter"i" in a circle dates this to 1868. The tower has a weight of 30 grams. WMF RARE ART NOUVEAU JUGENDSTIL CLARET JUG SILVER PLATED PEWTER CIRCA 1900
For auction a fine and rare WMF claret jug which retains most of the original silver plating. It stands 32cm high and is clearly stamped to the base with the WMF stamp. The letter B for Brittania metal, I/0 for normal thickness of silver- plating and OX to show that it was oxidised so that the impressed decoration is blackened with a sulphuret of potash and the flat areas are polished to a matt finish with pumice. For auction a fine and rare Art nouveu pewter jug by Kayserzinn with impressed marks to the base and model number 4382. In original condition this jug retains all the pattern definition and the original woven wicker handle. It measures 19cm high. There are some surface scratches commensurate with age and one slight indentation to the base mentioned for accuracy The Kayserzinn firm was in existence from 1862-1925. Owned by JP Kayser& Son.
