You can't find Satin Chrome fakes, unless I'm wrong, which I could be. But these were purchased from a Knoll dealer and everything about the chairs is spot on. The four chairs, bought new today, with the upgrade in finish and leather seating pads, from yliving.com would be $5,756.00 delivered. These are in near perfect condition, with only the one pad, shown in pic 6, having slight white markings. There are some tiny nicks in the satin chrome bases but nothing that you can see without searching. I will gladly provide more photos upon request. Bertoia's advanced sensibility as a sculptor made ... morethe Bird high-back chair both an immediate icon and a timeless classic. HIs specific approach to bending metal rods into comfortable and curvaceous forms created an entire collection of genius seating designs. Of which the Bird chair and lounge is considered the crown jewel. This early example features an original black frame. Original burnt yellow upholstery, as well as, original shock mounts/hardware. The subtle cloth design is an engaging detail that can only be observed when viewed rather close, and though the black frame is offset by an organic orange color creating an inherent Halloween theme, the overall aesthetic is utterly hip. The condition of the padded upholstery is good. And though it has some subtle discoloration from humidity exposure, can most likely be professionally steam cleaned. It is not sagging or slipping in any manner, and remains taught. There is some minimal edge wear and peripheral fraying, and though very insignificant, is worth noting. The covers are missing original Knoll labels, and several screws might be changed. However, it presents very nicely, and would make a beautiful addition to nearly any living space. The design endures and outlasts genres and eras better than most. And feels perfectly at home amongst chic'50s decor, modern mid-century pieces, and'70s space age vibe. This is a tomato red and orange weave Cameo fabric full cover for an original 1950's Bertoia regular size diamond chair not the larger model. I have the 1950's Knoll tag which fell off when I took the cover off the chair. This is perfect for the true vintage snob who wants to restore an all original vintage chair. I would keep it but red does not match my decor. It is in good condition with some wear and the foam lining has crumbled but still retains most of the original shape. The fabric is all intact with no stains but does have dust in the seat area and pilling but no actual holes.It would look amazing after a dry cleaning. I am selling it as is! For sale is this vintage 1950's Harry Bertoia Bird lounge chair with matching ottoman by Knoll. Bertoia's advanced sensibility as a sculptor made the Bird high-back chair both an immediate icon and a timeless classic. HIs specific approach to bending metal rods into comfortable and curvaceous forms created an entire collection of genius seating designs. Of which the Bird chair and lounge is considered the crown jewel. This early example features an original black frame. Original burnt yellow upholstery, as well as, original shock mounts/hardware. The subtle cloth design is an engaging detail that can only be observed when viewed rather close, and though the black frame is offset by an organic orange color creating an inherent Halloween theme, the overall aesthetic is utterly hip. The condition of the padded upholstery is good. And ... morethough it has some subtle discoloration from humidity exposure, can most likely be professionally steam cleaned. It is not sagging or slipping in any manner, and remains taught. There is some minimal edge wear and peripheral fraying, and though very insignificant, is worth noting. Up for auction is this great Knoll mid century modern Bertoia child's chair with original orange seat cushion. I just picked this up at a sale a couple weeks ago and fell in love with it. It looks great on display outside. But it seems such a shame to subject it to the elements. It measures about 20.5" tall, with a bottom leg rail length of about 14.75" deep. The seat measures about 15.5" at its widest. It is a bit rough, but could easily be cleaned up! Please take a look at my pics. There are a few welds that have popped as it was my understanding that the former owner used this as a fishing chair, lol! Well, he did it in style! Bertoia wire side chair is arguable one of the most beautiful chairs around. This particular style of the Bertoia side chair was only made for a year(1963) The original chair design had a wire seat but in 1963 Knoll International developed a version with a fiberglass seat(shell) These chairs are rare since they were only produced for 1 year. There is a chip to the fiberglass on the left side of the seat. The chair and base shows sign of age( see pictures) It is 50 years old chair. This one does have a scratch on the lucite cover-about 3/4" long vertically through her hair. Grooved masonite box front, black wood box part; lucite covering; masonite back. It's a really nice chair, so it's possible that it is an original, but, again, I just don't know, as I won the chair at a charity auction about 10 years ago and cannot recall if it was billed as an original or not. The seat is welded v. held with screws. The seat pad attaches with a snap v. velcro. There are no markings on the bottom or on the seat pad. 28.5" x 18" depth x 19" wide. The terms were favorable to the artist and Bertoia was given the freedom to work on whatever suited him, without being held to a strict design agenda. The result of this arrangement was the Bertoia Seating Collection(1952) Featuring a delicate filigreed appearance that's supremely strong, these airy seats are sculpted out of steel rods. In his art, Bertoia experimented with open forms and metal work, and these chairs were an extension of that work. If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture, said Bertoia. Space passes through them. After designing his seating collection, Bertoia returned to focusing mostly on sculpture. His work was often used in projects by Eero Saarinen(another Cranbrook friend) notably at MIT and the Dulles International Airport. Vintage Mid Century Early KNOLL Bertoia Wire Diamond Chair in Black VG Condition
Offered for Sale is this Vintage Mid-Century KNOLL Harry BERTOIA"Diamond" Chair. In Very Good Condition! The color. ORIGINAL, is black. This was purchased from an individual that claimed the prior owner of this chair had an aunt that worked for Knoll many years ago as a secretary and had purchased this chair directly from Knoll. After doing some research on the construction of this chair. I believe this not only to be likely, but that this chair is an EARLY version. First, the rods that make up the chair are welded to the TOP of the perimeter wire, not underneath; consequently, the ends are finished smooth. Apparently, modern day copies don't mimic the same construction. The outside wire is 4mm in thickness- later versions of this chair used a 5mm outside wire, as this was sturdier; earlier versions used a thinner wire, and ... moremy outer wire is thinner than 5mm. Unfortunately, the thinner wire chairs were more fragile. The lattice rods are 3.5mm. The rods that make up the base DO overlap. All the welds are clean, with a VERY finite amount of weld material showing. The fasteners used to secure the chair top to the base are four 7/8" long(threaded section) Philips head bolts, with four 3/8" nylon-insert lock nuts. These lock nuts are also known as aircraft fasteners. Each nut has a small"cut" on the edge of the flats, indicative of a locking nut. The spacers that fit between the chair and the base are FIBER, not rubber or plastic. There are no glides on the bottom of the base. Also note that there are THREE sets of holes on the base for the chair to fasten to-the two holes that aren't used are likely for another of the Bertoia chairs, perhaps either the side chairs or the Bird chairs, that may have used the same base as the diamond chair NOTE: A question was asked regarding the finish- The finish on the base feels and appears to be an enamel applied- the base has more abrasions than the chair. Harry Bertoia for Knoll Diamond Chair Mid Century White Wire 1950's Eames Era
Here is a good example of an early 1950's Harry Bertoia for Knoll white coated Diamond chair. This is the larger size design. Span is 44 inches by 35 inches and seat height is 15 inches. Fully functional with a few loose welds(see photos) and is missing a one inch piece of wire but still in good usable condition. It could use some minor welding repairs but could use a replacement cover. This is one of two pieces we currently have listed of the Bertoia diamond pieces. We also had the covers made by a local upholsterer. They are burnt orange microfiber suede with plastic straps and stainless hooks. MCM George Nelson Herman Miller lamp end table for side chair sofa Bertoia knoll
Please see notes on shipping at end. 19 and 1/8 inches wide x 30 and 1/4 deep x 22 and 1/4 tall at the main table section. Shade was professionally restored. The table itself is in nice vintage used and un-restored condition. It does show wear and has rubs and a few scratches- see pics for detail. Overall though it displays well in its vintage condition. nelson label is gone but the sticker backing remains in the drawer-light works but cord is old and should be replaced- ballast and wiring are original as well. rear clip was repaired because it had a crack- it holds well.
