I suspect the box was made in the 1880s. The copper box is lined with wood (pine?) and wood forms the bottom of the box. The box rests on 4 ball feet. The box is 7 1/2" L x 5 1/2" W x 3" H. It weighs about 2 lbs. The makers mark - Ostrich in a square - is located on the front bottom rail that supports the wood base. This is a fantastic box for the serious collector.

Mission Arts and Crafts Hammered Copper Vase 1910 Heavy & Tall
This is a wonderful mission style arts& crafts hammered copper vase from around the 1900's. The craftsmanship of this piece is excellent. It is hand hammered and has a kick-up bottom. Although it has a very nice patina I can old polish stuck in the seam around the bottom. It must have been polished a long time ago because it still has a nice mellow patina. It is heavy for its size and is not thin copper but a heavy gauge or thickness. It stand 8 1/2" tall and 2 1/2" wide at the base and 3 1/2" at the lip. We purchased this at an estate sale so years back with a collection of Elbert Hubbard books. It is nice heavy quality piece and is the quality of Roycroft and Stickley. I have up for auction a very nice Roycroft arts& crafts hammered copper tray with handles. This tray does have some discoloration on the back. But it does not detract from the tray itself. There are no breaks in the joints of the handles, this is a beautiful tray. The tray measures 11 1/4 across with the handles, or 10 3/4 without the handles. Good luck and thanks for looking. This is a beautiful. Hand-crafted copper plaque from the Newlyn Workshops in Cornwall, UK, made during the Arts& Crafts period. From Wikkipedia: Late in the 19th century the fishing industry in Cornwall was becoming unreliable as a source of income: bad weather and seasonal fluctuations brought enforced periods of inactivity. It was decided that an alternative means of employment could be gained by training the unemployed fishermen to produce items in copper. After some early experiments. no reserve this is a beauty. Easly over 100 years and probably much older. I ha no choice but to clean and poish the front. Years ago someyone left something in it that hardened. It was like hardened pine pitch. Maybe maple syrup. I had to use chemicles to remove most of it and hand wite brush the rest. Was quite the job. Byt it all came off.I left the back alone. Nice natral patina look. I think it wa once tinned or some kind of plating that is 98 persent worn off frome cleaning and scrubbing for yeard. Note the fance desiegn work. This is a beautiful. Very large, impressive hand-wrought copper tray from the Newlyn School, one of the most interesting and creative sources of Arts& Crafts metalwork in the UK. Late in the 19th century the fishing industry in Cornwall was becoming unreliable as a source of income: bad weather and seasonal fluctuations brought enforced periods of inactivity. It was decided that an alternative means of employment could be gained by training the unemployed fishermen to produce items in copper. After some early experiments. The Class specialised in copper work and produced a wide range of domestic and decorative items. The school remained active for about thirty years after its establishment in 1890. An artist who settled at Newlyn was a key figure in setting up the Newlyn Industrial Class, assisted by the benefactor and local. And artists. ... moreAnd. Other known artists who produced work in the Newlyn style included: And. The range of objects produced by the class including trays. Mirror and. Chambersticks, plates and chargers, boxes, bowls and coffee pots: designs typically featured fish, ships and other nautical themes. A permanent collection. Up for bid is another delightful recent estate find. This is a vintage hammered copper ashtray/ trinket dish tray from what I think was the Arts& Craft Movement era. This hand crafted. Hand hammered copper piece measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" It has a slight reddish tone to the metal. I'm not certain if that is the patina or was added as a finish. This piece is unsigned but is of nice quality. It has four cigarette'rests'one in each corner. It is both decorative and useful and would make a nice addition to any copper metal item collection, or for the collector of the Arts& Crafts movement themed items. Here is an exceptional arts and crafts period plate or shallow dish. The hammered copper form is decorated around the rim with an acid etched stylized flower and leaves pattern(or maybe seed pods? The technique is similar to that used by the Forest Craft Guild or Carence Crafters. It is faintly signed with what appears to be Chester Ulezelski and dated 1939. Condition is excellent and the patina appears to be original with the interior and background areas in the pattern being a dark reddish brown. The raised pattern areas are lighter creating a nice contrast. There is some very minor spotting as expected for age but nothing objectionable. This is 11 1/2" diameter by 1" tall. The vase was turned into a lamp sometime in 1930's, but luckily, the person did not drill on center, so they could save in hand signed signature. The vase has two pronounced dents in the lower part of the body. And in my opinion, doesn't take away from the sheer beauty of the vase. This is a beautifully and exceptionally well crafted antique Middle Eastern hammered copper plaque with sterling silver overlay. Also known as Cairo Ware. This piece was made sometime between the late 1800s and the 1920s. Not many of these were made. Because of the amount of work, time, and skill required to make them. Measuring almost 6¾” in diameter. This plaque features a scalloped, sterling silver lined edge. The center portion consists of an area appx 2½” across. With what appears to be Turkish lettering(or lettering in a similar-looking Cyrillic-type language) in overlaid silver; this is surrounded by a ring almost 2” in diameter of overlaid silver interlocking vines. All of the silver work lies on a backdrop of thousands of little circles. Each measuring appx 1/32” and each one separately hand-hammered into this heavy piece ... moreof copper. There is a copper self-hanger on the back. As well as three small, round feet, so that the plaque can either hang on a wall or sit on a table or in a cabinet. This piece is in pristine shape- there is no evidence of any sort of damage. Whatsoever. I have been trying to do research on this item for the longest time but other than knowing its from Dirk Van Erp I have not been able to find this certain style of candlestick listed anywhere. This item is very well made! Copper rivets attach base and handle to column without an iota of play. Constructed by the best metal craftsmen of the day! Candlestick measures 6" across base at widest part. Stands exactly 3 1/2 inches tall. Top flange had what I thought was a wax spout which turned out to be just a small bend. I had this repaired by a well known Portland Oregon copper craftsman who wanted to keep it. If you need anything answered just ask.
