There is a water stain on the lower right hand side and a spot approx as large as one inch. Other than the stain and spot there are no rips or stains looks to be in very good condition. The vase is signed on the bottom and I believe this was made in Yokohama. The vase is made of porcelain with hand-painted details on the exterior. The vase has a bulbous bottom with a narrow neck and a flared top rim. The vase features a one panel continuous scene displaying rocks. Flowers, and birds among several women and children in traditional Japanese gowns. The vase is predominently a rustic red color, with brown and pink colors and bright gold accents. Overall the vase stands approximately 12" tall. This is a tremendous vase that has survived exceptionally well! Item Condition: The overall condition of the vase is excellent. It is very clean and has no chips. Cracks, or repaired areas. The white porcelain is extremely clean and bright and the color and gold accents are striking with little to no wear. It has a nice shiny glaze with no crazing or staining and the exterior is very smooth and polished. There is slight rubbing to one area on the top rim and the bottom foot rim as is to be expected. THIS PIECE HAS IT ALL. named"Commerce and Industry" by the well-known Architect/Artist Luis Domenech(1850-1923) see Wikipedia for more info) whose prolific buildings and art still stand as beautiful remembrances of bourgeoning Modernism during the Art Nouveau period of France and Spain. Although there are smaller pieces of Luis Domenech's bronze figures and lighting statues found at well-known auction houses and through art resellers this piece is his largest that I have found to date. The figure is of a young man surrounded by the tools of MODERN Commerce and Industry for 1907. He holds Electricity in his upper hand(this is where the light bulbs fit) and his other hand holds the Medical Shield and a gear. Look at the last 3 photos where the bulb holder is fitted to the bracket. It looks to me that they were once oil lamp brackets. If anyone has any ideas I'm curious to know. Each backplate is 13 1/2" tall and 7 5/8" wide. These are solid oak covered in leather and heavily studded and decorated with brass. The beautifully stylish arms are a maximum 20" long with glass inserts on each side of the flowers. T hey are in very good undamaged condition and are of excellent quality. Offering a fabulous pair of antique Victorian glass vases circa 1880's. This RARE pair of vases features Japanese influenced platinum and gold enameled butterfly and floral decoration over a rich cased cranberry glass or pigeon blood glass. The coloration is gorgeous. A deep ruby red. And the decoration is superb- hand painted platinum and gold floral sprays surrounding a butterfly, also hand painted with platinum& gold enamels. Notice how the vases compliment each other: One butterfly is mostly platinum while the other vase has a butterfly which is mostly gold. This stunning amethyst glass vase has four applied trails. All tooled differently- two are in blue glass and two are a light amber glass. The oval shaped top has an applied edge of light amber glass. The vase is artfully decorated with polychrome enameled florals, a bird, and a butterfly. There is a polished pontil. This fabulous Art Glass vase was probably made circa late 1800's by one of the fine French glass makers like G. Argy Rousseau. Auguste Jean, or? Offered at Auction with no Reserve. to encourage bidding. Rare French Faux Bamboo Tri Fold Mirror. Mirror is signed on the Locking Clasp with the initials L.B. Louis Buitton? Brevete SGDG(Patented 1876) The Faux Bamboo wooden frame is structurally excellent with no damage. The finish is original and untouched but it could use a little touch up varnish/polish. The Tri Fold Mechanism is in fine working order. The interior trim is solid Brass that was originally lacquered and remains bright only in spots. Most of the lacquer is gone and the brass has an oxidized patina. The hanging chain is original and has superficial rust but remains strong. The silvering on the mirrors is bright as clear of damage. The Gold Woven Covering is in nice condition with no rips or tares. Measures: 13.25" x 13.25" Closed

Brown Transferware Aesthetic Movement Gravy Boat English Reg No 1800's, Sailboat
This auction is for an English ironstone gravy boat decorated in a brown transferware pattern that features geometric designs and nature themes that were so popular during the aesthetic movement. Each side of the gravy boat has a water scene with cliffs or islands in the background and sailboats or possibly Oriental junks in the sea. These scenes are bordered by intricate floral/triangle/bamboo designs; and beneath the spout. On the front of the gravy boat, there are sprigs of flowers. The handle has a vertical pattern that resembles chains or beads. This piece measures approx. 4 and 1/2" high at the handle by 7 and 3/4" handle to spout by 2 and 5/8" wide. As noted, it is in good shape with the exception of overall crazing. The inside also has some very light crazing discoloration that I tried to highlight in a photo. Aesthetic movement gilded copper hand hammered match striker
It is not often that you encounter gilded copper. But this piece definitely is one of them. The gilging has just worn off enough to have the copper shine through in a red golden hue. The box is lines with a separate sheet, which gently curves up, making it easy for the matches to come out. The striker is on the front. The center of the top of the box is hand hammered, with the copper just starting to shine through when held up against the light. The bottom is covered with green felt. Offered in this listing is a perfect example of the Victorian Aesthetic Movement Transferware. Made by John Meir& Son in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. The pattern alludes to an exotic faraway place. As is typical of the Victorian Aesthetic Era. And so. Up for sale is this antique ca. 1837– 1897 7 desert, or bread and butter plate with a way cool balanced design of a geometric border framing in the central motifs of bamboo trees and greenery, plus three(3) cartouches; 1. An old water mill 2. Flowers by a butterfly in a bowl. Plus fan shapes in each of the four corners 3. Geometric lines in a half-circle. As shown. The outer geometric border is symmetrical and the inner scene is asymmetrical, creating great visual variety and balance. Color is a nice and subtle mid to dark grey-green on a cream ground…neutral enough to fit in a display ... morealmost anywhere. LET ME TELL YOU. THESE GUYS& GALS REALLY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING, AS MOST ANTIQUE DESIGNS WERE DRAWN BY TRUE ARTISTS AND THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THAT! Hallmark: Crown Upper Draped Scrolling banner Skirt shape containing the pattern name; BAMBOO’ Bottom Skirt Overlay. Containing; J. M. SON Off to one side are also 3 rows of impressed words. Which are closer to the backside rim that has two mushed flatter areas(These areas are firing flaws, since all is glazed over. but I cannot make out what this impression says. From what I have read. W. Adams& Co. purchased the Meir factory in 1896 and this Bamboo pattern is one that they continued to make. Approximate size: 7.25” diameter x.75” high Condition: fine. With normal age related crazing and glaze flakes to the edges, but the edge of the plate is rather rough, with a few shallow flea-bites, but mostly the roughness is due to the glaze flaking. Glaze: except for the aforementioned edges. It is overall great and very high gloss. Scratches: I feel more than see two(2) tiny utensil marks or scratches. Uniquely Expressive two faced Motif of Victorian Aesthetic + extra Zeitgeist
At first sight- this is two pieces of plywood cut out with a saw and made into a picture frame. 16 inches wide 10 inches high and not more than a 1/4 inch in depth framing a small picture of a church. Rough around the edges- definitively a piece of folk art. Yet whilst it lacks finesse. It explodes with an eloquently expressed intent, both deliberate on behalf of the artist and crystallised and anchored historically by its conception- or more accurately its realisation- at a particular place and time. It is an expression of art which has subsequently been adorned and continues to be so with a jewellery of symbolism by the very passage of time. Looking a little more closely. I think it represents a pinnacle- if not'The Pinnacle' of Victorian Aesthetic. It embodies the sentiments of both academics. Designers and the most recognised ... moreartists of the Genre. It is more so impactful that the artist is not known- The piece having a life of its own. It is'Art for Arts Sake' It is a bubble blown with the breath of the artist and moreover- it retains this breath. The Zeitgeist. It is not tainted by an ego and stands in its own right. It works at many levels. Compound with interest. The pattern is that of a butterfly whose wings are demarked by a transformative fretwork of holly which. Beside being symbolic of festive intent, mediates through organic form between the solid long lived wood of the frame and the apparent transience and lightness of the butterfly motif, signifying the fleeting passage of time, the design in the manner of William Morris or Edward Burne-Jones and owes its imagery to the forms of the late Victorian Aesthetic movement. Moreover it is an aesthetic device- almost a'Tardis' of intent- most obviously a transformation of the organic form of holly into that of a butterfly.
