A 19th c Soup Tureen, Grindley "Burmah," Aesthetic Movement, Brown Transferware
For auction is a 19th century Aesthetic Movement soup tureen in brown transferware. Made by Grindley in their Burmah pattern. Item includes a ceramic ladle which may or may not be original to the piece. Tureen is quite large, measuring about 13 inches(33cm) long and about 7-1/2 inches(19 cm) tall overall. Note small chip on rim of lid. And another on top rim of tureen(see last 2 photos) Moderate crazing throughout. An overall acceptable example of this piece. Item will weigh about 7.5 pounds packed and will be shipped USPS parcel post unless a different shipping method is preferred. International shipping via USPS Priority Mail due to weight.

Antq Ridgways DADO 8.25" Plate Bird Apple Blossoms Aesthetic Brown Transferware
I am offering on Buy It Now a handsome antique plate from Ridgeways Stoke on Trent. This English brown transferware plate is 8.25" and made of china. The pattern is called DADO and it is a registered numbered design. The pattern has a Japanese influence and is asymmetrical. An English robin and tree are shown in a cameo view and there's a tree branch with blossoms along the top edge with a fruited branch along the lower rim. The fruit looks like apples. On the left side of the plate there is a stylized floral band that sets off the pattern. There is a fine hairline on this plate which does not interfere with the design or the integrity of the plate. There are no chips or cracks. Fine crazing and age related darkening are on the underside. The plate is brown stamped with the Ridgways crossbow and pattern number. Please refer photos& ask questions. Marked with words"Patented Oct 24. 1865 66" AGAIN PLEASE NOTE: AS IS" Antique condition. Being sold for display use only! Very old 19th Century item with damage. Used with wear and flaws. Finish shows scratches. Dark tarnish, small dings and dents. Note many scratches, dark marks, tarnish, and small dings. I did try to enlarge several of my photos and I avoided the flash because of glare it produced. I will not polish and will let that up to the buyer. Design is ornate ... morewith tiny details of three part leaves in etched line relief. Somebody said it is"Ivy on the Vine"and the leaf motif goes around both sides. The interior of lid, top(spout neck) and the underneath bottom are still shiny. Handle is very gracefully curved and securely attached. The lid has detached on the lip back edge of the top and has a ding on rim edge. The hinge is straight and doesn't show damage and that surface is rather smooth so I think it could possibly be repaired by a jeweler. The finial on the top of lid looks like a stylized"fleur-de-lis" motif. Even with these issues it still fits nicely on the pitcher. I did toy with the idea of having this repaired to use as a serving piece. I also was approached by an artist who makes small tabletop fountains and bird feeders from antique silverplate. but I think it should go to a collector. Aesthetic Movement Original Pair of tall Urn Shaped Candle Holders. These came out of my Late Aunt's estate which had been handed down through the generations. So I am certain of their age and authenticity. Both have acquired a deep fine patina that only the slow passing of time can achieve. I am not positive of the metal but am quite sure they are spelter. The raised relief artwork is superb, including full winged butterflies on both sides of body of each piece. They measure a stately 17.5" tall and are sure to make a bold statement. They will fit up to a 2 1/8" pillar candle that will illuminate these to their fullest potential. Condition for their advanced age is excellent, only issues are the left candle holder at thin handle about a inch above woman's head there was a break which had been repaired. A phenominal late 1860s to early 1870s Rogers& Smith New Haven Connecticut silverplated Aesthetic ment teapot! This Turkish style teapot features almost art deco style angular handle and spout. The spout is almost steampunk in its industrial smokestack appearance. The stepped hinged lid bears a classical urn finial above a machine turned reeded rim. The bulbous body is engraved with Egyptian revival foliates. Acanthus leaves and dart decoration. The whole rests on four classical Neptune or old man mask knees above hoof form feet. In overall very good shape, it exhibits no losses to the plate. There are a couple of tiny very shallow dents to the body on one side and perhaps where the feet join the body. I would recommend hand washing only for this antique beauty! 9-3/8" wide by 3-7/8" high Probably pre-1891 as the hallmark on the bottom does not have the word"England" Country of origin mark is said to have been required per the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890. The transferware is a pattern of blue vines. Leaves, dragonflies, butterflies, grasshoppers and other insects on an off white background. The top portion is a brown and off white band of flowers, berries, and thorny vines. There is a fine gold line along the top rim, along the bottom brown band, and along the edge of the footed bottom. The design together with the'mystical' face moulded on the bottom of the handle is very similar to the wares produced by Watcombe Pottery. Dr Christopher Dresser was a key designer during this time and whilst this is not marked in any way, I would not be surprised if it were a design such as this. Note that the rim has an applied pewter rim and there are a couple of pins to the inside(which do not really serve any purpose) so this may have originally had a pewter lid/ cover. They stand 7/8" tall and are 10 1/4" wide. Manufactured by George Jones& Sons, a Staffordshire Pottery in England. Graphics are Asian influenced nature images and Asian calligraphy marks are on the inner rim. The plates are finished off with the standard manufacturer markings on the edge. Plates are in great shape, some minor imperfections, having no chips, cracks, crazing or utensil markings. Offered for auction is an antique FRENCH LONGWY FAIENCE POTTERY TRAY DISH. It is SIGNED on the base with an underglazed stamp that was used by Longwy circa 1890-1910. Aesthetic period. This type of Longwy pottery is variously called"Chinoiserie" or"cloisonne" due to its reference to Chinese art and enamel cloisonne. The characteristic Longwy enamel glaze colors turquoise. White, green, pink and brown are separated by black resist lines, forming lush branches of cherry or Prunus covered with blossoms. The back side of this little pin or dresser tray was covered with a lighter turquoise glaze, and the foot with a clear glaze. In addition to the maker's stamp on the base. Rare 4-person Drew& Sons. Piccadilly"En Route" Tea Basket, c.1910. Drop front wicker basket with leather straps and original instructions stitched into the lid. Contains D& S spirit burner in decorative holder, tea kettle with tea basket insert and wicker handle, and saucepan with metal handles. Also two enameled storage drawers and three metal boxes, a small round condiment/jam jar, and a Drew& Sons matchbox with striker. The service includes four enamel tea cups with the wicker handles intact. Four saucers, four square plates, four D&S teaspoons and three Drew& Sons knives(one is missing) Also included are four Wm. Rogers& Son silver plate forks(same time period, but American) perhaps because forks were not originally included in this set- as they were not in several versions. Nothing but the one knife ... moreappears to be missing, but it's difficult to tell. There do not appear to be leftover spaces. The basket and it's contents weigh 20 lbs. Antique Braemar Brown & White Transferware Platter
I bought this platter in an antique store in Mohave Valley. AZ about 20 years ago because I liked it. It's been hanging on my dining room wall ever since. I know nothing about it's age. Someone told me it was transferware. It doesn't go with the decor in my home anymore, and I'm down-sizing, so it needs a new home. It has a few chips(see photos) but otherwise is in nice condition. There are two"stamps" on the bottom above the word"Braemar" one is a square with what looks like the number 16- the other is a bell with a mark I can't make out and the what looks like the letter"B" inside of it. Hiram Powers GREEK SLAVE Bronze Figurine TITO BIANCHI Early 1900's ITALY Cecina
Unusual and rare model of a female statue manufactured at the famous Rinomata Factory in Florenz. Italy in the early 1900s. The design is based on a sculpture by Hiram Powers which he created in 1844 called"The Greek Slave" An excellent write up on its history and symbolism can be found at Wikipedia under"The Greek Slave" Base on the description along the bottom edge" TITO BIANCHI CECINA" and"SCHIAVA" This figurine was made at the Tito Bianchi factory in Cecina. The title is"Schiava" which translates into slave. Not much information is known of Tito Bianchi. Yet famous artists such as Gino Ruggeri and Amilcare Santini did learn the craft of sculpture making at his factory. The figurine stands 10.5" 27 cm) high and it weighs 1.75 lbs. It is made of metal, which is difficult to identify ... morebecause of the age related patina. In some small areas where the patina has rubbed off a golden color surfaces. I have a fine German Aesthetic Movement 800 Silver Bowl with exquisite oriental repose designs c. 1880s. Its marked Germany 800 and has a makers mark. Its a large bowl measuring 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches and it weighs roughly 1.6 pounds. Customs and insurance reasons Im only shipping this item domestically. I also ask that the buyer pay an additional $40 to cover the cost of having it insured and registered parcel. This is possibly the finest example I have ever seen of Aesthetic Movement silverwork and certainly the largest. Its a great centerpiece for a serious collector of this period. Offering an amazing Large Antique Platter. This is a generous platter. In brown and white-ish cream. This is in the Oxford Pattern. Embossed and Marked Doulton's Burslem as shown in the final picture. ~ Large. Measuring in at 15 3/8" x 12 1/2" ~ There are NO Chips or Cracks. Does have a few Minor light brown spots. Mainly on the edges and a few light spots on the face, toward the bottom, as would be expected with a piece over 125 years old. This is large enough for use or display. Add to any collection. AESTHETIC MOVEMENT SOLID SILVER SUGAR BOWL& MATCHING CREAM JUG- 1884- 4.76 oz Click Images to Enlarge This is a super looking little solid silver milk or cream jug offered together with a matching silver sugar bowl. Both pieces are beautifully decorated in a manner that was inspired by the Aesthetic movement as pictured. Both have been assayed in London during 1884 by Charles Boyton& Son. The jug measures 3" long including the handle and is just over 2" high by about 2" wide at the widest point. On my electronic scales it weighs 2.08 ounces(59g) The sugar bowl is 2.25" high and has a top rim diameter of 2.75" On my electronic scales it weighs 2.68 ounces(76g) So a combined silver weight of 4.76 ounces. Both have typical age related light/ faint surface scuffing and scratching over the silver surfaces. The ... moregilt interiors on both items are in good general condition considering their age. The sugar bowl has no particular dents or dings around the bodywork as far as I can tell but the cream jug has a small impact mark on one side near the base plus a couple of small crease dents above it. Nothing really nasty or serious though as you can see from the photographs above. A good polish will restore former glory. Offered here for sale here together in a used antique condition. Exactly as pictured and with no reserve. Antique Doulton (Burslem) Flow Blue Transferware Dessert Plates (6) w Gold Over
More pieces of this pattern on my other auctions. I don't know if this pattern has a name. It shares similarities to the pattern called Persian Spray and is from the same time frame. 1880s. These plates are blind stamped into the clay body and have other little marks both embossed and painted. The pattern is of bamboo and leaves. Different types of birds and circular Japonism style medallions in flow blue transfers. There is also, laid atop the blue design, another design with round Crysanthymum blossoms and sprigs of leaves in gold. Gorgeous! So Victorian. So aesthetic in design, just wonderful pieces. These are 8" in diameter. As to condition- once again. The issues named are not unusual for this type of ceramic- the crazing and the discoloration happen when these are used. I would rate this set of six as far above average in that ... morethere are no chips, no major wear, they are only very slightly plagued with the discoloration so often found on old transferware/ironstone and the gold is absolutely above average.

ANTIQUE STAFFORDSHIRE AESTHETIC TRANSFER WARE PITCHER SET REGISTRY MARK 1878
For sale is an aesthetic pitcher set in an oriental motif from a Staffordshire pottery. Images depict a Japanese building. Koi, heron, small birds, and yellow and red chrysanthemum. There is an embossed design on the upper and lower portions of both the pitcher and toothbrush holder, and on the lower portion of the mug. The registry mark on the bases dates these to 4 June 1878. The pitcher measures 12" tall; the holder measures 5 3/4" tall; and the mug 3 1/2" tall. There are no chips. Cracks, or repairs to any of the pieces.

A Mintons pottery vase designed by Dr. Christopher Dresser Size: 22cm high x 11.5cm diameter. Condition: Unfortunatley there are some condition issues with this vase. It is intact and stands as a vase. There is a 14cm long hairline running from the rim down into the vase. It is a little loose at the rim. There is an assortment of hairlines around the base which come up 3cm to 4cm from the base which itself feels fragile. There is a hairline/ crack running around the outer edge of the base. I can only suggest that it may have been used as a pen pot or similar as there is blue ink staining to the interior and underside. The lower 1/5th of the outside is slightly crazed. Depicted on a scrolling banner that is draped from a long branch of budding roses, having a pair of owls atop that. Then on the other side the boy and girl are walking along carrying a picnic basket and umbrella. In case it rains and this also is depicted within a scrolling page. Due to the counterparts of the design. This fits the bill just fine for the Victorian Aesthetic Movement and though I searched, could not find another like this in such an unusual and charming children’s’ pattern. Palette: lavender. Magenta, gold, turquoise, Viridian green, lime green, sienna brown and manganese sky blue all transferred onto a cream ground and sealed under a high gloss glaze. But before the odd tiny firing flaw dark depression that does go through to inside. Both hairlines are very tight. With no movement whatsoever. § And there is a 1mm x 2mm chip on upper edge rim. Plus another 1mm x 1mm bitty one on the spout. § Other than those issues and a bit of sticker residue on the base. I find no others, nor do I see or feel any surface scratches.
