Beautiful German vintage lobster bowl c1880 that is in very good condition. It is a transfer print in lovely colors and soft pink with no chips. Cracks or repairs. There is the slightest bit of wear on the top of the gold lobster handle, but the gold is harder to find than the red lobster handles. Whose brightly colored earthenware, decorated with various flora and fauna, had been accidentally created during Palissy's attempts to imitate Chinese porcelain. Although he never succeeded in uncovering the secret of making"china, Palissy's 16 years of trial and error resulted in the development of a unique style of ceramic that was widely popular among the French nobility. Interest in Palissy ware peaked again during the Victorian age, when the style was revived in France, England and Portugal. Born in 1510 in France. Palissy was a true Renaissance man—an ecologist, land-surveyor, chemist, goldsmith, and geologist before he became an artist. Obsessed ... morewith nature, he gently killed frogs, snakes and crabs and made casts of them, as well as of shells, leaves and flowers. These he attached to his pottery and metal dishes. Palissy painted his works in nature’s colors and perfected enamels and lead glazes that simulated the seabed, natural marble and water trickling over moss-covered pebbles. Even Catherine de’ Medici, then the queen of France, took notice of his work and commissioned a grotto, one of Palissy’s specialties, in the gardens of the Tuileries palace. Palissy became famous in Paris for his pottery and for his lectures on natural history. But in Catholic France during the Wars of Religion, his staunch Protestant faith landed him in the Bastille, where he died of starvation in 1589. It was often used with small, individual sauce dishes. The bowl is not marked. It measures 2 1/8" tall by approximately 9 1/8" wide across the scalloped top. The bowl is divided into 8 panels that alternate between small clusters of flowers and dark hunter green. The edge of each panel is accented with a series of 7 tiny gold flower like designs. The center of the features a large floral decoration that consists of a large pink rose and ... moreseveral other flowers. I find no major damage. There is some wear and minor paint lost on 2 of the green panels. There is no major scratching on the interior of the bowl. The bottom of the bowl has several small nicks that are consistent with the age of the bowl but no major nicks. Or chips are found. The bowl is not marked. There is a fine, tight hairline crack on the bottom that does not go through to the interior of the bowl. The master bowl is 10 1/2 across and 3" high, and the berry bowls are 5 1/4" across and 1 3/8" tall. Royal Kinran Nippon large rose bowl 9.5" with heavy gold gilt and beading 1880's
I have for auction this evening a stunning display bowl by Royal Kinran made and sold to the domestic upscale market that was thriving in Japan at the end of the 19th century. This stunning bowl features a classic and well executed mold shape with scalloped and and beaded rim. The primarly color of the bowl is a very dark green that at first glance appears to be black but this color was very much in line with the popular color palette of that time period. Placed upon the face and one the sides of the outside of the bowl are the most exquisitely and delicately painted red. Pink and purple roses with accent flowers in blues and oranges along with green foliage to the center large magenta colored roses. There are copious amounts of gold gilt banding the interior of the bowl along with beading in stretegic spots to give the piece a great tadtile ... morefeel when touched. This is truly an amazing and very rare piece of antique Nippon era Japanese porcelain. Item dimensions and dating: All measurements are approximate. This piece measures 9.5" in diameter and stands 2.75" tall. This piece dates from the very early NIppon era in the 1880's. Condition report: This piece is in excellent antique condition with the only issue being a one inch long very thin and tight hairline crack leading from the rim to an inch down from it. This is a very old Blue Ridge southern potteries hand painted underglazed bowl that I inherited years ago. This bowl has discoloration areas. Crazing and a crack as seen in the last picture. The tulips are pink with dark green leaves. The rim of the bowl is also painted pink. Under the rim there are bumps all the way around like little buttons. This bowl measures 10 1/4" across and stands 3" high. I remember this bowl being used when I was a little kid and I am now over 60 so that tells you a general idea of it's age. Ironstone Wash Basin - Blue and White Rural Scene Believed to be Staffordshire
Thank you for looking into our auction of an IRONSTONE POTTERY WASH BASIN WITH A BLUE AND WHITE RURAL PATTERN BELIEVED TO BE STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFERWARE POTTERY. This is an old used bowl. That is in very good used condition, especially considering its age. There is nothing on the bowl to tell where, when or by whom this bowl was made. Having tried to research it, and comparing it to other similar bowls, I have come to a belief that it may be a piece of Staffordshire Transferware Pottery, probably from the 1800s. I have looked at seemingly hundreds of Stafffordshire patterns, many of which have similarities to this pattern, but I have been unable to find an exact duplicate to the pattern. That may be because of the fact that there were probably thousands of transferware patterns made over the years. The paint on the basin/ bowl is in fine condition. ... moreThe top side of the bowl has some fine utensil scratches in it, but you really have to be looking at the bowl closely, from a particular angle to see those marks. The lower side of the bowl shows some signs of crazing, but that should be expected from an old piece of pottery. There is one chip about 1/2 inch long at the edge of the rim of the bowl, and directly underneath that chip, there is another chip on the underside of that rim. Opposite those chips, on the other side of the bowl, there is a very fine crack, which can only be seen from the underside of the bowl. And, finally, there are several chips out of the base ring that the bowl sits on. Those chips, for the most part, are on the inside of the ring, so very few small ones show up when the bowl is sitting on a table. The bowl measures approximately 13 inches across the top, 6-1/4 inches across the base, and 4-1/2 inches high. If you become the winning bidder in more than one of our auctions. 1 Antique PORCELAIN BOWL small bowl measures 4 1/2 inches across 3 inches tall the base is 2 inches across this beautiful lil bowl is labeled with a small thin old brown piece of paper which says Imari porcelain period 1830-1843 A.D. it has a shiny white base coat with vibrant colorful designs inside has a repeating pattern of oriental fruit and leafy vines all around the top edge the outside has 2 different figures there is also a large leaning tree and many other bright colorful trees and plants around the very bottom is a repeating scroll type pattern and then on the base is a blue straight line pattern this comes from an old family estate and has been in storage it is in excellent condition no cracks no chips the colors are bright and vibrant

Asian Style Blue & White Sugar believed to be Worcester
We are very thrilled to offer this wonderful blue and white porcelain sugar bowl. Ca. 1780-1850. This sugar bowl is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or breaks! This wonderful blue and white bowl is decorated with a Chinese dragon. This opening of this sugar bowl is 3 ½ inches in diameter. It is 5 ¼ inches in diameter at its widest points from side to side, the base is 2 ½ inches in diameter and it has a height of 3 ¾ inches without the lid. The lid measures 3 ½ inches in diameter and the lip measures 3 1/8 inches in diameter with a height of 2 inches. The overall height of the sugar bowl with lid is 5 ¼ inches. On the inside of the lip of the lid there are a couple of spots that were not glazed which is common of pieces of this age. This is most probably a Worcester or other English piece. And painting over it with a transparent glaze creates the blue-white style, also known as“underglaze blue” The piece is then fired at a high temperature. Rare Antique 1929 "Pogossi" 9" Bowl - by the Pope Gosser China Company
Up for auction is this lovely Pogossi cream-colored bowl manufactured by the Pope Gosser China Company of Coshocton. Ohio. This bowl features an embossed design on the rim surrounded by one green stripe on the outer edge and a blue stripe toward the interior of the bowl. This bowl measures approximately 8.75" in diameter and 2" in height. This rare antique piece is in excellent condition with no nicks. Chips or cracks. See photos for detail. The marking on the bottom of the bowl says" Pogossi 3 29. The book entitled"Recollecting Pope-Gosser- A Compendium of Historic Chinaware Produced in Coshocton. Ohio" states the following about the"Pogossi" collection: Pope-Gosser produced a line of fine chinaware in 1929-30 imitating the bright colors of some European china. It was christened. Pogossi.
