Glaze is remarkable, almost entirely intact! DETAIL: A splendid. Very large black/brown glazed earthenware bowl in the style of the Song or Jin Dynasty of Ancient China. This particular style was produced using a black glaze, high in iron oxides. In the kiln the iron would oftentimes come to the surface of the glaze, creating brown/rust-colored“oil spots” or streaky“hare’s fur” patterns on the otherwise black glaze. The style became extremely popular in ancient China, especially with Japanese Monks to whom the Chinese exported this unique and rare product. Tea bowls were the most common produce of this technique. This particular bowl is a variation of this style, where rather than a large number of spots or drips, instead larger areas of high iron glaze were used to produce these large rust-colored streaks in the otherwise black-predominated glaze. There are minor chips in the porcelain glaze at the rider’s right front shoulder; to the rider’s waist, behind, center; to the back side of the horse’s right leg; at the edge of the horse’s stomach, right side, center; and at the rider’s left elbow. There is as well a scattering of minute porcelain chips throughout, and the top of the horse’s right ear is also chipped. Other than cleaning, there has been no restoration work. The minor chips could be repaired, without additional cost, if you would like our conservator to repair the chips. Unrepaired medium sized impressed earthenware jar seemingly attributable to the middle of the first millennium B.C. The term“impressed” means that a design was impressed into the still wet vessel before it was fired. More often than not this involved rolling the vase over a fibre mat, or pressing a piece of mat into the vessel, impressing a design into the still-wet clay. It is a good-sized piece, the size of a small melon. What’s really remarkable is that despite its age, it is entirely complete. There is of course a collection of small rim chips, virtually obligatory with a ceramic vessel this old. And from those chips two very slight hairline cracks have evolved, as can be seen in the images here. However considering the age of the vessel, these are rather minor(and entirely customary and acceptable) blemishes. As well there is an assortment of tiny scuffs and abrasions which one would expect with an earthenware household utensil which was used and then buried. Considering that the typical such specimen is recovered shattered into shards, this specimen is truly in remarkable condition. Although it is probable that this specimen is much older. It is also possible that this piece might be a revivalist imitative

The scene on the cover depicts a woman crying at the site of her empty bird cage. When you remove the cover you find the tiny bird painted on the inside surface of the bowl chirping away. This outstanding piece of table silver is from my mom's(99 yo) long deceased grandmother's Texas estate sale. I am unsure of the exact age, but has been in 3 generations of my family's possion for many decades. All the bowls and silver branches are all detachable. The top has a pierced decorative gallery. The piece stands a total height from table top to top of large bowl of 13 3/4" tall. The total width is 21 1/4" width. The silver alone weighs a whopping 8 lb 6.6 oz. It remains in very good to superb condition with no repairs, ... moredents, scratches. There is one small chip of cut glass smaller than finger nail off one of the small bowls. The tiny chip is not noticeable. There is very faint plating loss on the repousse leafs under the main bowl. It rocks just a bit on a flat surface. I can find no makers marks on the piece. This is a beautiful and impressive antique set made of a creamer and a sugar bowl. They are marked ELITE WORKS LIMOGES FRANCE HAND PAINTED. The marks tell us that they were made and decorated at the factory of Bawo& Dotter in Limoges ca.1900-1914. The style of the decoration is Art Nouveau. They are completely hand painted and signed by the factory artist Mullier. No damage on these pieces: no chips. Cracks nor restaurations. The paint is in excellent condition and the lavish gold decoration is almost all there with some light wear on the handles of the sugar bowl. The creamer is 5 1/2" tall and 4" wide with handle. The top lip is scalloped and undulating, while on either end the lip curls under slightly to reveal the pretty peach colored lustre inside. Antique Pankhurst English White Ironstone Pedestal Bowl Punch Syllabub 1800s HTF
PLEASE VIEW ALL PICTURES BELOW Exceptional and rare English white ironstone pedestal bowl. Or as originally intended for syllabub, toddy or punch. Made by J. W. Pankhurst& Co. Hanley in the mid to late 1800s, I believe. There is an odd flaw in the clay body from the manufacturing- an irregular chip on the rim that was glazed over at the factory. Maybe this more common back then, I just don't know. Otherwise the condition is excellent with a few little spots in the bottom inside. It has acanthus leaf handles on either side and a classic, ribbed melon shaped form with slightly flared rim- a very handsome piece. It measures 10 1/4" across the top. Not counting the handles, and 6-1/2" high. The foot is 6 1/4" in diameter. I understand these large pedestal syllabub bowls are rare and hard to find, especially with attractive ... morehandles like this one. There appears to be an impressed maker's mark on the bottom of the vase but I can't quite make it out. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. SIZE: The vase is just under 8.5 inches tall. 6 Antique 1910 Gustafsberg Royal Blue & Gold Soup Bowls
Offered here are 6 beautiful antique Gustafsberg(Sweden) soup bowls. 1 bowl has an 09. And the other 5 have a 10 which I believe indicates the year. They also have"opak" inscribed along with the letter"T" The name Gustafsberg is written in script. They measure approximately 9 1/2" in diamter and are about 1 1/2' high. They are white with a royal blue band around the edge with gold trim. In general, they are in very good condition with some wearing of the gold trim and some other signs of wear as well. There are no cracks on any of the bowls, and no crazing was noted. There was a chip on one bowl(see pic) that was about 1/8" on the underside of the edge that was the worst of the damage and, in my opinion is quite minor. A second bowl had a similar chip that was quite shallow and could almost be considered ... morea scrape(pic) and a third had a very small nick(pic) Any other flaws were less notable than these. Rare multicolor pottery bowl from Scotland with three images: image of Robert Burns and the words" BURNS CENTENARY 1896" beneath the image. Robert Burns cottage Burns mausoleum in Dumfrees The bottom of the bowl has the 1890s thistle mark of the Campbellfield Pottery in Glasgow. With"TRADE MARK" around the top of the thistle, and"C.P. Co. LT D" GLASGOW" in banners across the thistle. This bowl measures 7 1/2 inches(19 cm) in diameter at the widest point. It is 4 7/8 inches(12.3 cm) tall. It is in excellent condition, showing wear and use consistent with its age. There is some wear to the gold decorations and overall light crazing. This is a beautiful sugar bowl and creamer set bearing the mark HAND PAINTED PICKARD CHINA. The set is Art Nouveau style in shape and in decoration. Although our estate holder's collection has this beautiful porcelain example marked as being a Volkstedter piece with a mark that would date to 1760. I believe that the mark is actually belonging to Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanfabrick Triebner Ens& Eckert example which would date the piece to 1877- 1894. Volkstedt porcelain has enjoyed a long history as it was located in the heart of Germany. The Volkstedt. As well as the Dresden and Meissen areas of Germany are known for their almost translucent hard past porcelain.most especially their depictions of ladie's and gentlemen's clothing with outstanding ruffles and ridges created in lace porcelain. Our example is a beautiful sea shell exterior ... morecoupe or bowl with fabulous hand painted flowers with gilded embellished decoration.some age wear to the rim edge enhancements as you can see. All of this sets below a Cupid figural with arms outstretched at one side of the bowl.colors and delicate finger tips well in place. However. We do have what appears to be an old smoothing or grinding down of the wing area.perhaps wings were once in place and the area is now smoothed down. Still and all, a lovely example of German porcelain, and a stunning display piece. Bottom marked with a correct ink backstamp, as well as what may be incised artist initials or signature. This is a lovely bowl. No chips. Crazing or cracks. In the close up picture you can see where paint has been rubbed off. My guess is someone had placed another bowl inside this one and caused the rubbing and loss of paint in these few areas.
