Salopian Porcelain Hand Decorated Cobalt& Gilt Tea Bowl. 3 3/8" top dia x 2"h. C. 1755-1790. Caughley Works(of Thomas Turner) Shropshire, ... more1775-1799. Spiral fluted ogee shape. 3 floral ornaments painted in cobalt blue& gilt. Inside& outside border of gilt foliation with blue diamond& dot center. Interior bottom with starburst rosette. Under-glaze blue by hand crescent with interior not shaded. Godden mark#4314. Crescent marks, C. 1755-90, painted in underglaze blue.Variations occur. There is sometimes confusion due to over simplification of crescent marks and makers of this period. Often the rule that Worcester's crescent mark has no serifs and Caughley's does have serifs disregards the fact that Worcester's mark varied depending on whether the decoration was printed or by hand. With respect to the present piece. Of course, Worcester made this shape and painted pattern, but it is KNOWN to have the OPEN CRESCENT mark(unfilled) which Worcester used on painted wares. Thus see, for example, Henry Sandon, THE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO WORCESTER PORCELALIN. Plate144, where a handled cup, saucer are shown and a waster mentioned- all with the painted OPEN crescent mark. Worcester, did indeed use the closed crescent mark(filled in) but it was PRINTED AND USED ON BLUE PRINTED WARES. Now both Lowestoft and Caughley copied Worcester wares. Lowestoft typically copied the Worcester marks rather closely. Caughley used the painted serif closed crescent mark on its wares and is known to have used slight variations- typically on the copy wares. Therefore. Caughley is the most likely maker of the piece under consideration. Fine example. Some frits on footrim. H5079 All Items Are Sent Insured. Stangl Pottery Yellow Caughley Large Baker Roasting Pan Trenton NJ Spongeware
stunning vintage kitchenware for use or collection Yellow Caughley Large Spongeware Baker from Stangl Pottery Trenton. NJ superb condition to please hostess or collector Welcome to Simpler Times Antiques! Here today for your consideration we're pleased to offer this stunning large baker or roasting pan from the Yellow Caughley dinnerware pattern by Stangl Pottery of Trenton. NJ. Yellow Caughley is a collection of sponge decorated kitchen and table wares that offered a wide array of items for basic service as well as kitchen use and decor. Introduced around 1969, the pattern is now defunct as Stangl Pottery is no longer in business. Our baker is the larger of two sizes made. It measures about 17.375" long across tab handles x about 10.625" wide. Rim height is about 2.5" Bottom marks include the Stangl logo, pattern name, ... moreand place of origin, Trenton, NJ. Please note that this is a very heavy item, weighing in excess of five pounds before packing. Close inspection shows this baker to be in simply superb condition. We found no chips. No cracks, and no repairs. There is no hard water film or other discoloration. We noted no crazing of glaze. Yellow sponge decor is fresh looking and very bright. We noted only one or two very minimal scratches on the interior surface and a very light pattern of wear on the bottom contact surface. This piece has obviously been seldom used and well cared for. You will note a small factory glaze flaw on the exterior aspect of the rim. There is a bit of dark debris captured under the glaze that is easily noticeable. pointed out with arrows in detail photos) Additionally the overall glaze exhibits an array of small pops and inclusions that are typically expected in mass produced ceramic kitchenware of this era. These small issues do not represent damage of any kind, but rather are simply demonstrative of the level of quality that's expected in such items. All in all this is an outstanding piece of kitchenware that presents very well. It should easily be the delight of

Worcester or Caughley - rare porcelain - Butter Dish - 18th Century
Worcester or Caughley Porcelain Blue and White Butter Tub Dish. Circa 1760- 1775. The bottom side has the mark of a crescent"C" The approximate size is: 159 mm(wide) A very rare and highly collectable piece of blue and white early English porcelain with underglaze blue decoration. This wonderful piece was part of my grandmother's significant world class. Museum quality ceramic collection. I have had a difficult time identifying this wonderful piece between Caughley and early Worcester, as some good sources have shown that it could be either one of the two companies? More photographs are available upon request. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you.
Fantastic Caughley Salopian English Coffee Ca Saucer Pagoda & Bridge c1785
This fantastic Coffee Can And Saucer were produced by Caughley and are marked With the Salopian"Sx" Mark. This pair dates to approximately the late 18th century. The cup is 2.5" tall x 2-5/8" in diameter at the rim. The saucer is 5-1/4" in diameter. The largest trauma either has is a small chip to the saucer as pictured. It also has overall light wear an gilding wear. I am unsure of the actual pattern name. But it looks like it would be Pagoda& Bridge. It is a very nice piece of Caughley.
Early Caughley Worcester Lidded Sugar Bowl Three Flowers Decor
This Antique 18th Century Sugar Bowl measures about 5.5" tall when assembled. The cup alone measures about 3" tall and about 3-3/4" in diameter. The piece has overall wear and also has chips to the underside very bottom of the lid and the foot of the bowl. The lid is a bit loose and has a slightly different color. I am not completely convinced they started life together. I am also unsure of how tight manufacturing standards were in the late 18th century. Either way by pattern the lid matches the bowl. And they are being sold as a pair. We have a number of English Porcelain listed this week. Make sure to check them out and combine shipping. Rare Polychrome Caughley Porcelain Cup & Saucer English 18thC 1700's England
For sale is a cup and saucer made by Caughley in the 18th century(1795 or so) The pattern is called"Back-to-Back Roses" The set is handpainted with a very colorful floral arrangment in the center as well as some smaller flowers all around. Gold trim to the rim. Previously. It was believed that the pattern originated on Caughley porcelain from the Chamberlain decorating establishment in Worcester, continued after the breakdown of that relationship in 1793 by the Caughley factory themselves. However, it is now believed that the pattern was exclusively done at Caughley. There is a dated Caughley mug with this pattern from the 1790s. The paste has a very nice warm white color, light blueish tint to the glaze where it pools and a brownish transmission when held to the light. Not sure which type of paste it is but the 1790-1791 pieces ... morewould be in soapstone porcelain, 1792-1794 in transitional paste, and 1795-1796 in hybrid hard paste. The set is in excellent condition with a tiny bit of wear to the gilding and the usual black spot from the making. Neither the cup nor the saucer is marked underneath but certainly made by Caughley. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 4.75 inches in diameter and the cup is 1.875 inches tall and 3.125 inches in diameter. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like Vienna. KPM, Sevres, Doccia and so on or contact me through Ebay.
Rare 18thC Caughley Polychrome Porcelain Shell Dish Plate Porzellan Antique
For sale is a rare softpaste porcelain polychrome shell shaped dish made by Caughley around 1790-93. It is superbly decorated at Chamberlain studio at Worcester in the center with a ruin in a landscape surrounding. Surrounded by some nice gilding, lots of colorful small cornflowers, a pink blue and green border design which is quite intricate and highlighted with gilding and the finishing touch of more gilding to the rim and handle. The central scene is simpler than on the other dish and the writeup stated that there were at least three artists working on this service. Some I think show an influence of the famous Duvivier which worked at the studio around this time. This piece comes from a recently discovered service which has been discussed and illustrated by Chris Brown in his paper"A Polychrome Dessert Service" A rare and fun ... morefind in a nice shape! The piece is in good condition with some wear to the gilding and four small rim chips as shown none of which take away from this great piece and if needed would be a quick, easy and cheap fix. The dish is 2 inches tall, 7.5 inches deep and 7.875 inches wide. It is not marked underneath which is not uncommon for Caughley pieces of this era. 18th century Caughley/Worcester Bowl - Fruit and Flowers
I love this bowl-the detail in the transfer is perfect. Technically. I now it could be either factory, but something says Worcester to me. There is a hairline, but it is minor and the piece displays beautifully. It is 8.35 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches tall. There is wear, but it is commensurate with age. If you expect perfection in 250 year old porcelain/soft paste, please look elsewhere. Shipping will occur at the speed and price agreed to after the auction. Insurance is mandatory. I do combine shipping. PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY-There is a lot of data in there. Soft Paste Porcelain Cup & Saucer, Cobalt Blue & Gold, Likely Caughley Salopian
A delightful late George III/ English Regency cup and saucer. C. 1790-1820. This set is decorated with classic cobalt blue and gold, popular from the late 18th century up until today. The form and decoration of this piece is very likely Salopian Ware by Caughley, which is often unmarked. The condition is generally excellent save some slight wear to the gilding throughout as well as wear to the glaze where the cup sits on the saucer. There are no chips. Cracks, or repairs. Please remember that early pieces like this were never perfect and normally show minor glaze flaws and have imperfections in the porcelain body, as this example does. It should be considered a mark of good age, not of bad quality. eBay About me: While new to eBay. I am not new to the world of buying and collecting beautiful artifacts from the past. Salopian Porcelain Hand Decorated Cobalt & Gilt Tea Bowl c1775-1799 Caughley
Salopian Porcelain Hand Decorated Cobalt& Gilt Tea Bowl. 3 3/8" top dia x 2"h. C. 1755-1790. Caughley Works(of Thomas Turner) Shropshire, 1775-1799. With respect to the present ... morepiece. Antique Pair of Caughley / Worcester Blue Decorated Teacups and Saucers
These Caughley/ Worcester Teacups and Saucers date to the last quarter of the 18th century in England. They are kind of a pair. The cups match each other and so do the saucers. I do not believe the cups necessarily match the saucers. They were made in the same era. And"match" quite nicely. That is how i received them, and that is how they will be sold. The cups are a fenced garden motif i believe and the saucer is flowers and butterfly. The saucers appear to have a couple tiny chips to the foot that occurred possibly during manufacture. This is a lovely four piece group of very nice early English Porcelain.

Early, Huge Coalport Caughley-style Dish, classic blue prints-A/F
This is a wild one. The handles. Center print and french basket design on the interior and the outside edges are consistent with pieces shown in Godden's Caughley& Worcester Porcelains 1775-1800. The dish had a side impact and has been securely repaired, but it is not professional at all. Please note that the crack across the bottom does not exit the piece-it ends in the corner. I have not tried to destabilize the glue, but- as shown, the piece seems to have all of its pieces. There are firing issues that i do not make excuses for-that is just part of the 18th century manufacturing process. The dish is 7.5 by 11.5 by 3 inches. the handles are 1.5 inches more each-so the total length is 14.5 inches. really lovely early piece. as shown it can display well without showing the damage. ASK QUESTIONS. PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY-There ... moreis a lot of data in there. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS caref ully. also- Returns only if reasonable. if the piece is lost and you did not ask for insurance, it is at your risk. Shimpping to the UK would be 14 £.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2Bf54%3E-1475cd5a030-0x11a-

English Salopian Caughley cup and saucer - late 1700s
To my knowledge. This is an early Salopian Caughley cup and saucer set dating from the period of George III's reign 1775 to 1799. An example of the rich blues and gilding used as the English imitated the fine Chinese export porcelain of the period. This cup and saucer was brought to America by my grandfather when he immigrated from Bradford, England in 1898 and he was the one who marked it Caughley on the box. The saucer measures 5 and 1/4 inches in diameter and 1 1/8 inch high. The cup is 3 1/4 inches in diameter and 2 1/4 inches high. The bottom of both the cup and saucer are marked with an"S" for Salopian The condition is generally very good save for some slight wear to the gilding on rim of cup and saucer There are no chips. Cracks, or repairs. Early pieces like this were never perfect and normally show minor glaze flaws ... moreand have imperfections in the porcelain body. It should be considered a mark of age, not of bad quality. Caughley Porcelain was established in Shropshire in 1772 on the banks of the river Severn near Ironbridge and produced fashionable blue and white tableware. Any unused shipping cost will be refunded to buyer. Questions welcomed.
