There was a piece that was broke out of the side and glued back in. They also did some in painting after gluing the piece back in to make it invisible. It is hard to find these larger platter's in this series. It show some signs of use, but displays great. It has crisp transfers and a high glaze. You will enjoy this piece for many years to come. It measures 15 1/2" ... morex 13" x 1 1/2" high. Named after the Italian Painter, Antonio Canova(1797-1822) This platters central scenes include a large Urn. Large stone buildings, a lake with an oriental boat and two oarsmen. Also many trees and clouds in the background. The border consists of scenic vignettes alternating with floral reserves. I find no utensil marks. Chips, cracks, or repairs. No utensil marks on the front. The edges are smooth and the central scene is very shiny. One dark tiny spot on the edge done in the firing. I find no crazing front or back. The makers stamp; an Urn, Canova, Stone Ware. on the back. A dark line under the glaze, a 12" spot without porcelain on one back border and two tiny spots on the opposite end. Some blue spots done in the firing. A very nice addition to your collection for a very reasonable price. Any spots are glare from the camera. Priority shipping USPS or UPS. Whichever is the lowest in cost. Samuel Alcock& Co. impressed letters"FM" and has an English Registry Mark dating, June 11, 1855. I believe this platter would be considered a black mulberry, however, I am not certain, when I look at it with a loop the transfer colors are definitely black, however when looking at it with the naked eye, it looks black to greyish and at first glance maybe even blueish, but it is definitely a black transfer. This is an antique from circa 1840. The pattern is one that was made by several different pottery makers in Staffordshire at the time. Alcocks and Whitehaven among them. We don't know the name of the pattern, some folks refer to it as'GEM' but we're not sure that is the correct pattern name. Lovers of Blue and White do have the same pattern listed on their website with that as the name, so perhaps it is correct. There is no backstamp on this platter. No matter what the name. It is a striking pattern with handsome Chinese design elements both in the wide outer rim with it's flowering nut border and feather plumes and the inner border ... moreof elaborate lattice work encircling a towering cathedral scene. Just a fabulous early 19th century English Staffordshire transfer design. This is a beautiful platter and very large and deep. It has a wide flat rim and is in very good condition. Nice antique Blue and White round transferware platter. It is from Steventon& Sons. England, themed"Elephant" is 13 1/4" diameter. The mark indicates it is circa 1923-1936. I had a Spode dealer that saw this platter and he said this is a Spode company. He also said that it is a"first run" and that is why the center design is somewhat fuzzy or blurry. It has some crazing, a tiny glaze pop on top, but no chips. The color is a medium blue. Free shipping within the US.

The scalloped edge platter features cartouches of tropical wild cats(ocelot, jaguar and leopard) and a water buffalo around the rim separated by garlands of flowers, surrounding a central image of Eskimos building Igloos with dogs, fishermen and a hunter nearby. Featured in Coysh and Henrywood’s“Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery” The series represents episodes catalogued in the 1821 and 1824 illustrated exploration journals of Sir Edward Parry from his travels in an effort to find a north west passage ... morearound northern Canada. The source print of the platter’s central image is the"Sledges of the Esquimaux" from Parry's"Journal of a Second Voyage" Other scenes from the series pattern came from arctic views in John Franklin's"Narrative of a Journey to the Shores of the Polar Sea, in the years 1819 to 1822" published in 1823. The animals in the borders are said to come from copperplate engravings from two sources: Bewick's"General History of Quadrupeds" and William Jardine's"Natural History" The obscure series is discussed also in Elizabeth Collard’s book“The Potters' View of Canada. For sale is a GAUDY IRONSTONE Staffordshire plaatter. Good condition, in the very popular"SEEING EYE" pattern. Made in the 1850s in Staffordhsire, England, and shipped to the United States, this pattern was quite popular in Pennsvlvania and is now very collectible. The platter is of octagonal shape. Measuring 12 and 1/4 inches by 9 and 1/2 inches. There are no chips, crack, or repairs, however, there is visible wear. Platters in this pattern are particularly difficult to find. There are knife marks from use, and as you can see in the photos, the flowers show some wear, there is some paint loss, and the lustre on the"eye" is very, very weak. 800x600 Rare Child's Miniature Pearlware Platter COTTAGE SCENERY Staffordshire England c.1830 This is an extremely rare historical Staffordshire miniature platter or meat plate. C. 1830. It was made as part of a complete children's toy transferware dinner service. The gently scalloped oval tray measures 4-3/8 inches long with a flared rim and flat bottom. The piece is transfer printed in a rich cobalt blue with a pearlware glaze. The platter is impeccably potted and finely detailed. Depicting the view of a thatched roof cottage with cows grazing in the front yard, and people standing in the backyard, which has a distant view of a church steeple. The figural imagery is so large that it spills over the rim with no room left for a decorative border. The pattern name is unknown and the exact maker has not been identified. It was made Circa 1891 by Staffordshire, England potters Powell, Bishop& Stonier. The printed registration date is 28 th January. 1880. They are decorated with a pattern called“Burmah” and also bear a trademark depicting a Chinese man with a parasol known as“Oriental Ivory. The design is a really pretty, colorful one. The platter measures a very large 20" across x 16" wide. The platter is in good condition for its age, there has been 2 old minor touchups to the outer edges. One on the bottom front edge at 5 o'clock, and one on the very outside side edge into the back side edge, almost invisible from the front. Measures 17 1/4" x 12" Slight crazing as would be expected with light discoloration due to age. There is a tight 5" hairline crack as shown that shows on both sides. There is another marking that goes from the number 3 on the back lengthwise for 6" that does NOT go through to the other side. When examining under loop. This appears to simply be a crazing line.
