BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE 1850 IRONSTONE PITCHER SIAM HISTORICAL BLUE STAFFORDSHIRE NR
From the English Registry Mark on the bottom of this pitcher one can tell it was made in 1850. This is a large ironstone pitcher measuring 6 1/2 inches at the base and 10 inches high. I have taken closeup photos of a number of issues. As you can see the base has some flakes as does the inside and there is a small hairline where the handle meets the top rim. Even though this pitcher is not perfect it displays beautifully since all the defects can not be seen when the pitcher is in a normal position. I love the pattern which is called SIAM. This card is permit#109 from the Junior Business Association. He was given a permit to work the corner of Church and Crown streets. His name was Jessie Fleming and he was 13 years old. The box ix painted blue along with the#109 on all sides showing the permit number. It's an interesting piece of historical memorabilia. The box also has its vintage YMCA sticker and a phrase painted that reads.Friends Of boys. The box is made of oak and in very good condition. The height is approximately 10 1/2 inches tall. The platter displays Melville Castle in Midlothian. Scotland, which features the castle in the background with three deer in the foreground surrounded by a natural landscape. The platter has a floral border with a rope style edge and the back is marked, Semi China" in blue. This is one of the largest platters that they made measuring about 21 1/4" by 16 3/4" Item Condition: The overall condition of the platter is remarkable for its age. The plate measures approximately 8.5" in diameter and is in wonderful condition with only the slightest utensil usage normal with nearly 200 year old plates and a barely detectable flea bite at 7 o'clock. The back has an embossed ENOCH WOOD& SONS BURSLEM mark and a cartouche in blue which reads"BARLBOROUGH HALL DERBYSHIRE" A really super example of Wood's work depicting a"Downton Abbey"like country house in pastoral scene. Very good looking Tea Bowl and Saucer with Sea Shell& Flower design. It was reported to my wife as possibly being Wood. Rogers, or Wedgwood from the 1815-1825 time period, at the time of her purchase in 2004. No potter marks- so I am unable to verify age& origin. The impressive pattern has a strong dark blue background and includes fine shading and coarse accent lines. The design displays a variety of sea life of what appears to be sea urchin, cowry, and gastropods accented with floral elements. The handleless Tea Bowl and saucer are in very good condition and display well. The pattern is quite clear. The saucer is ~5 5/8" in diameter x 1 1/8" tall. The Tea Bowl has a chip in the rim that has been previously touched up with blue& can be seen in the photos. The specific pattern is PARK THEATRE NEW YORK. The plate is 10" in diameter and there are no chips. Crazing or repairs, but there is the hairline in the rim, only seen on the back side. It has a 3" section out of the rim glued back in with some old painted touch up. There's no other damage. Up for auction is a vintage framed World War II American US service star in its original frame recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It features a blue star in the center, an eagle with to 48 Star Flags on either sides. The bottom reads, For God And Country" It measures approximately 8" x 9" in size. Historical Blue(c.1820) Clews Sancho Priest& Barber Transferware Plate Description: HISTORICAL BLUE(C. 1820) CLEWS SANCHO PRIEST& BARBER TRANSFERWARE PLATE This wonderful Staffordshire transfer plate by J. Clews is entitled Sancho and the Priest and the Barber. It is in the Don Quixote series by Clews and dates to the period 1818-1836. The plate is 7 and five-eights inches in diameter. The deep. Deep dark blue indicates its very early date. The central scene shows two men standing and another on horseback. The border consists of doves and flowers. There is a plate just like this in the New York Historical Society Museum and Library. It is also pictured and discussed in the well-known Blue China Book by Ada Walker Camehl(1916) There are a couple of spots where the blue did not quite"take" on the edge, not unusual for pieces ... moreof this era. The plate is free of chips and cracks and in beautiful condition, quite remarkable considering it is approaching 200 years old. We were able to acquire a fine collection of dark blue early nineteenth century porcelain, assembled over several decades, and will be listing additional pieces in the future if there is interest.
