About Shan miniatures: ... moreSmall narrative antique Shan bronze depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha were used as votive deposits from pagoda relics chambers. Technically. They are both cast and wrought, with the figures usually set on openwork bases. More than the narrative& votive aspects, they all share a somewhat crude but lively style. Extract of Burmese bronze sculpture in the British Museum by T. Richard Blurton These poetic and figurative expressions. The relationship of the Buddha's life in a poetic language, the presence of embellishments, exaggerations, allowed the preservation of these stories today. Story: There was many Buddhas before Gautama Buddha. Dipankara. He who brings light" is the first Buddha. It is the protector of travelers and is associated with charity. Dipankara is best known for giving the prophecy to the Gautama contemporary incarnation. Dipankara is represented most often standing with his right hand making the mudra of fearlessness(abbhaya) Like Gautama, He is a prince who is an ascetic vocation and eventually found enlightenment in the shade of a tree. Gautama was at this time incarned in a young Brahmin named Sumedha. Having realized the futility of his existence, there was wandering ascetic. After many adventures, he finally arrived in the town of Amaravati where the people were repairing the streets. They explained to him that the Buddha Dipankara was expected in the city where his father reigned when he was Prince. Enthused, Sumedha decided to buy flowers to offer, but found no flowers to buy, the king having requisitioned all the flowers for its own offering. But to his surprise, arrived on the scene where Dipankara will come, Sumedha saw a girl holding beautiful lotus. He wanted to buy them, but the girl, having recognized his value, proposed to offer five of her flowers in exchange for a promise that in all his successive lives
