Antique 19th Century Bronze Burmese Bell Kyeezee Spinning Gong Elephant Howdah
Up for sale is an antique heavy bronze kyeezee or burmese bell. Gong can be suspended from a cord and held in hand while striking the tip with a small wooden mallet. Thus causing it to sound and spin simultaneously. This traditional Burmese instrument features a large elephant with a howdah perched on its back. The relief is duplicated on the reverse. It appears to be cast bronze with an engraved design. I had listed this item previously as an amulet or medallion before having it properly appraised. Despite its intended purpose, it can certainly be worn as an amulet on a leather cord or simply used as a decorative paperweight. It measures approximately 6 by 4 inches. Piece shows some wear with a dark patina. Piece is unmarked and the true age is unknown. I did notice, however, a mark on the reverse side of the bale but I do not know if this ... moreis a hallmark.
