The Kammavacam. A formular containing the ritual to be observer at the ordination service, the invertment of a priest with the three robes, and of various other occasions. This formular forms part of the Vinayapitakam, or basket of discipline which is the first great division of the Bhuddist Scriptures. This manuscript contains the end of the third chapter and chapter 4-9. It is written in the square Burmese characters. The language is Pali, the sacred language of the Bhuddists. Provenance: The Danish anthropologist/ethnologist Werner Jacobsen who participated i expeditions to Tibet. Monoglia and India in the 1930's to the 1950's.

It has an impressed"pistol" brand/mark. Research indicates it dates from late 19th to early 20th century. The swollen pommel, hilt and scabbard are silver. It is decorated with colorful niello enameling. It has a bright red& green original carry cord. The dha is approx. 20" long. The silver has darkened patina, but could be polished brightly if desired. I find no issues to mention regarding significant damage. The tip appears broken off, but research indicates this sword was made with curved tip. With her left hand she holds up her sarong, just a little, to free her bare feet she is dressed in delicate decorated. Expensive traditonal Burmese costume; the extremely elegant cut kebaya/ blouse has small flowers and detailed borders and has it's typical triangular shaped endings. I have two wonderful authentic antique Nats for sale this week. This sale is for the one pictured only. I bought these two in Burma in the early 90’s back when Burma saw fewer than 40.000 foreign visitors per year. At that time true antiques were easy to find but today it’s nearly impossible and sadly most are fakes. These two Nats are very weathered and this one more so than the other. The paint on the left side of his face is nearly gone and his real hair has become unraveled. The paint is chipped in a few places so take a good look at the photos. I suspect he sat under a Bo tree outdoors for many years but he is still wonderful to look at and is full of character. Burmese were animists who worshipped a series of nature spirits called Nats. These spirits became converted to Buddhism and thus became helpers of the monks. This was a deliberate policy on the part of King Anawratha and the rulers of Burma in the 11th century. At the same time, these spirits often have their own ceremonies and festivals and are worshipped in addition to the Buddha. There are 37 officially recognized Nats, each with its own history and image. The Nats, as spirits of natural forces, such as water, wind, stones and trees, take many guises. The Nats are all ghosts or spirits of heroes except for one, the chief Nat, Thagyamin Nat(the Indian god Indra, protector of royalty) who was elevated to this position in the 11th century by the great unifier, King Anawratha, who integrated Nat worship into Buddhism. The Dao was the national sword of the Naga tribe of Burma. They were fierce warriors and head hunters. This one is a classic example in fine antique condition. The hilt has a red painted or dyed wood or Bamboo root grip. At the blade end there is a heavy silver ferrule. The pommel which looks like bone but is the more expensive natural materiel has a nice age patina. On top. See photo, is an inlaid" cross" design which is outlined in brass. The maker took a lot of time to put this in this extra ornamentation. The flared straight single edged blade is hand-forged with a gray patina and a squared tip. One side near the tip has some age pitting. This blade is still fairly sharp. The are several good honest edge nicks and some cuts on the back also. This sword was used in battle. Here's a genuine vintage/ antique Burmese/ South East Asia/ Vietnamese Dha sword. Included is a wood(type unknown) scabbard/ cover with string accents. It measures a total of 37" with the scabbard/ sheath. And the sword itself measures 34 1/2" The blade is 23" long. This was brought back from Vietnam by Lieutenant Kenneth J. Parkhurst Air Force. It is just as I got it in 1980. The sheath has some chips where the blade goes into it on the top& bottom. And common wear. It is in better condition than many I have seen on here for twice as much. Hello! We just purchased this sword from the estate of a retired US Marine Corps Master Sargent. Who traveled and collected artifacts from all over the world during his career. Here's a genuine vintage/ antique Burmese/ South East Asia/ Vietnamese Dha sword. Included is a wood(type unknown) scabbard/ cover with string accents and a shoulder sling. It is guaranteed to be an authentic weapon or your money back. It measures a total of 39-3/4" with the scabbard/ sheath. And the sword itself measures 35" The handle is 12-5/8" and the sheath itself is 27-1/4" It's in"as found" condition. We have not cleaned or polished it. And the blade fits tight into the handle. The sheath has some cracking where the blade goes into it on the top& bottom. And common wear(please look at the photos for the condition) The ... moreblade itself has a chip on the edge. And the number"1" stamped on one side. There are also two engraved or stamped lines that run along the top of the blade. Set of Five Five fine Burmese silver boxes- to my understanding they were typically used for betel nut use- many think they were for tobacco. I suspect the owner did as they pleased.snuff anyone? It took me an extended search and much travel time to locate five authentic Burmese silver boxes; however. I found a lady from Burma who dealt in Burmese jade; these items were in her family's collection. After much conversation and some purple jade buying I secured them and they have been with me for thirty years. They are highly decorated: The octagon box weighs 70+grams- approximately1.75H X 2.5 X 2.5 inches& decorated with birds. Flora and nice floral panels on the side. The large round box weighs 59+ grams and has a 2.75 inch diameter& 2 inches high- floral motif. The small round weighs 48+ grams& is 2.5 inches in diameter& ... more1.75 inches high-floral motif. The larger oval box weighs 47+ grams& is 1.86 H X 2.5 X 1.75 inches- it has an elephant on the lid and birds on the ling side The smaller oval box weighs 31+ grams and is 1.5 inches high x 1.5 x2- it has a classic pattern used of punctuated swirls. Two are hallmarked; one marked 95% silver; however. They could easily be coin silver. The average would be 80 to 90% silver content. This set was shown at the Mengi Museum of World Folk Art and I would like to keep them together. So- I will offer them as a set- one time. Up for bid is a vintage pre-1965 attractive gold lacquer ware box/jar in the shape of an owl. It may have been made in Burma. And was a gift to the current owner’s grandfather who used it as a cigarette case. The box is painted in gold leaf and the owl’s features(eyes, wings, feathers, etc. are painted in black. The interior is black lacquer. Measurements are 4 inches high and 3 inches in diameter at its widest point. Condition is good with some paint fading from use and some minor flaking on the lid’s rim. Vintage Burma Or Myanmar Marionette Burmese Puppet Doll With Mustache 26" Tall
I'm offering a wonderful. Hand carved and painted, vintage Burmese marionette– puppet. This Myanmar, traditional doll, measures 26" from top of his hat to the bottom of his wooden feet. He is a fabulously dressed in a purple velvet jacket and multi print pants with silver metallic trim. He has a gold sequined collar. He has a mustache, probably horse hair, and a moveable mouth. His neck is carved with a separate disc to make it more movable, as are his legs which have two sections. This is a marvelous piece of ethnic workmanship. All strings are still attached(I think) There are small flecks off the paint here and there(especially the nose) But he is fairly clean and I can see no major damage. Large Rare Antique BURMESE Mark Gong Square Bronze Brass 13.25" Sq Gong Burma
Early Antique Large Burmese Gong SEE ALL PHOTOS BELOW FOR CLOSE UPS. OVERSIZE PACKAGE unless winning bidder does not want the frame. Then they can let me know at auctions end and I will adjust the shipping for just the gong. This has a beautiful frame that I would think someone would really like have a craftsman to restore. Dark red(ebony? wood. Lovely carved bird and pinwheel flowers on the top bar and flowers on the lower bar. The gong is either brass or bronze? Not sure. Has the old Burmese stamp of a man which dates it somewhere between 1886- 1912. Measures: Gong- 13.25" sq x 1.75" deep Stand measures: 24.5 x 40 when put together. The wood frame as you can see below was broken off at one time and they tried to fix it by placing a screw in there. The one foot does have candle wax drippings on it and it does have a split as seen ... morein the one photo. The gong itself is in pretty good condition with just a little green residue on the 2 holes. The edges are a little crude(not exactly level all the way around) but has no affect when hanging. Up for listing is a Burmese- shan-Kachin Dao Sword. It's in good condition.the scabbard is simple. The blade is a nicely sculpted blade from thick towards the hilt(6 pennies thick) 5/16ths approx.Thehandle is what appears to be a whitish-yellow brass with water buffalo in the center.The bade is approx. 24 inches.The overall size is 32 and 1/2 inches. There appears to be some copper and silver inlay near the hilt. It's weighted quite nicely. The edge is somewhat sharp. It feels quite nice in the hand.Age unknown.difficult to tell.it's a nice sword.

For Sale I have a 19th Century Burmese Temple/Story Dha(saber sword) I did not know a whole lot about these until I picked this. And a bunch of other Asian antiques up from an estate auction. I did some research online and apparently t his kind of sword is referred to as a"story dha. because the blade decoration typically depicts a story from Burmese folklore, or a Buddhist Jataka. It has silver koftgari on the blade. Including Burmese script; this type of dha is sometimes used ritually in"nat" spirit) festivals, such as the Festival of the Spirits in Taungbyon, Burma; called by some"temple dha, but it is unclear if this label is accurate. I am no expert on these swords, but it looks authentic to me, especially considering the lot it came from. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is a vintage Shan Betel Box that I bought from an antique dealer in Rangoon(Yangon) in 2002. The design is typical of the geometric designs produced by Shan artisans. The lid is very finely detailed and on each side is bird like figure that I think is meant to be the" bird shaped barge" that takes sacred objects away during the Phaung Daw U festival at Inle Lake in September. The original interior tray is missing. The Betel Box held"the various items necessary to make quids of betel(for chewing) Measurements: 3 1/2 inches high and 3 1/4 inches deep. Condition: Good vintage condition. Interior tray is missing, minor dings on top lid. Please look carefully at the pictures which are incorporated into the condition description by reference.

Vintage Carved Wood Figure Burmese Burma Dancer with Fan, possibly teak
Coming from an estate auction that included a lot of very nice Asian antiques. The only thing I actually know about her is she has a sticker on the bottom that has written on it: Burma. It may be from the prior owner, but the costuming looks correct to me for that, so I'm assuming it is correct. She looks in very good condition. With a soft patina? to the wood, I think it is teak, but not positive. The wood looks as it may have been burnt some prior to being carved, there is a black burnt area on a bottom corner and a bit showing near her waist. The only flaw, if it is one, is that the tip of her hair may have been broken off, but if so it was done quite a while back, but it may have been carved this way. 10 1/4" tall. Buy with Confidence! H. Stewart H. Antiques has been selling on eBay since 1998! I have placed a $350US reserve on this auction. Antique Burmese Natural Amber or Burmite Trade Bead Necklace Mizoram Thihna or Puan Chei Mala Necklace- Burmite is a fossil resin used by the Chinese as early as the Han dynasty. I found this necklace as loose beads in a box- I have strung it as best as I could on several strands of yellow embrodery silk- it would of course show a richer color if the silk were of a darker color- the beads have some damage and the last two are amber colored hand drilled peking glass- and at least one. Possibly two of the narrowest beads may be parts of early natural amber pipe stems- assume added to and modified over the last century. The central pendant bead is good- no chips or cracks one shallow surface fissure- one of the flanking ... morebeads is excellent- the other is missing a large portion- please peruse the photographs carefully- I have given every angle- many of the spacers are damaged as well as a few ends of the narrower beads- one has a chip on the barrel side- all have natural inclusions- some are tapered- all show natural wear. Assume early 20th century- the strung beads measure 22" with the silk cord is 26" it can be slipped over the head- the largest bead is 25mm in diameter, the longest is 39mm long. It weighs 72 grams or just a bit over 2.5 ounces. Please email with any additional questions. Pair of Framed Burmese Kalagas - Burma Myanmar Tapestry Kalaga
Set of two gorgeous framed kalaga tapestries from Myanmar(Burma) Professionally in Rawalpindi. Pakistan. These are truly gorgeous pieces of art. Approx measurements are 15" x 15" and 14" x 14" I am not certain of the age, but the information on the framer's tag would date the framing of the kalagas post 1935. Antique 14th Pagan Bronze Buddha Bouddha burma buddhist burmese
This rare bronze figure of Buddha was crafted in the Bagan empire in Burma/ Myanmar and dates back to the 14th century. Buddha is depicted on a red lacquered. Stepped pedestal in the lotus position padmasana. The soles of his feet are turned upwards. His hands form the bhumisparsa mudra. The gesture of touching the earth. His palm is turned inward and his fingers point towards the earth. With this gesticulation, he calls upon the earth to bear witness to the truth of his words. His left hand is hereby placed upon his right foot with the open palm facing upwards. Buddha is wearing a simple kasaya monk’s robe. Which is placed around the left shoulder and clings to the body. The face shows a meditative expression with a slight smile and half-closed eyes. The deep neck folds as well as the long earlobes illustrate Buddha's majesty. The head, ... morewith a dome-shaped elevation forms a small, flame-shaped ketumala and completes the figure. The Buddha bronze is in good age-related condition with a natural patina and signs of wear. Abrasions to the gold. Some loss of material on the back and small notches are visible here and there. The height measures 22 cm, the width 13 cm and the depth 7.5 cm.

Antique Burma Burmese Myanmar Polychrome Lacquer Dancing Nat Goddess Painting
This is a polychrome rendering in lacquer on wood of a dancing nat or spirit. The nat is a woman. I believe, who is smiling and dancing on a flower while holding what is possibly a bow or some kind of curved stick that has a deer head attached to it. It might possibly be the goddess Sita from the Ramayana, but I am not sure. She seems to be wreathed in fire as well. The piece measures 16 inches from top to bottom and 12 inches across. The top is in very good condition with a few minor marks and a place in the top left corner that looks like someone sat a glass on it at one time. ANTIQUE BURMESE DAH KNIFE W/ SILVER NIELLO INLAID SCABBARD 19th CENTURY BURMA
Up for bid is neat old Burmese Dah fixed blade knife. The knife was obtained with some military items and was presumably brought home as a souvenir by a WWII American serviceman. The knife measures 16.75 inches while in the scabbard. The blade alone measures 9 inches in length. The knife exhibits some period wear and use but remains in fairly solid condition. The knife and scabbard exhibit some small dents& dings. Blade has some oxidation and light rust. The bone handle has a few small tight age cracks. Neat old knife.
