The etchings in the silver blade are clear. Areas of tarnish do exist. There are several small nicks along the unsharpened edge, especially near the tip. Blade is straight, but a little loose in the hilt. Hilt is in excellent condition with only some 'small curves' at the base. This could be due to being made by hand. Fits snugly into sheath. Sheath is also in very nice shape for it's age. There are the same 'small curves' along the edge where the hilt snaps in. Two areas where sections have come apart, shown in photos.

Dating from the mid to late 19th century and originating from Burma. The body is carved. Lacquered, and gilded wood decorated with inlaid glass gems and mirror work. The head, hands, and feet are made or carved white translucent alabaster, and the ornate gilded head piece is made of metal. Circa 1865- 1890's. Mandalay. Burma(Myanmar) SIZE: Height(including headpiece& base) 21.25" 54 cm) Width- 12.5" 31.8 cm) Depth- 8.5" 21.6 cm) This Buddha is very elegant and striking with a beautiful. Peaceful expression carved into the alabaster face and graceful stylized carving of the hands and feet. It depicts the Buddha as a young man. The head dress or crown ... moreis made of cut and fabricated metal. Probably sheet iron or brass, and decorated with stamp-work, hand-cut inlaid glass mirrors, and a gilded surface. It is removable. The carved alabaster head has elongated ears and sits in a cavity at the neckline of the carved wooden body. It is easily removable. The alabaster is of a fine grade. Very pure and white with a slightly translucent quality that makes it almost glow in the light. The features of the face are carved, incised, and colored black, red, and blue(the eyes) The hands and feet are permanently attached to the wood body and are not movable. They are also beautifully carved and look very life-like. The body of the Buddha is of carved wood with a graceful thin form. The surface is gilded lacquer and is decorated with inlaid mirrors of clear and green glass. As well there are ornate raised lines and a mine-cut large clear glass gem in the center of the chest. The buddha is sitting on a lacquered and gilded. Red-painted wood base, with similar decoration and an old metal attachment for something directly in front of the feet. Antique Burmese Lacquer Betel Box(US Bidders& Shipping Only. Please! An intact antique Burm ese bamboo and multi-colored lacquer Betel box of very high quality. Made ci rca 1900-1930.This circular 3-part box includes a tall inner section over which the outer lid fits neatly and a single inner shallow tray. The style of decoration on this box is referred to as Nandwin. Or"King at Court. This decorative style concentrates on royal figures against a backdrop of wooden palace buildings. The King is depicted centrally on either side of the box with courtiers to either side. A finely detailed design scheme fills the remaining spaces in the broad central panel. Narrow registers above and below this contains floral, cloud and bird decorations. A total of four cartouches in each of these panels contain inscriptions in Burmese. The top surface ... morealso carries an inscription, above another scene of royalty amid palaces and a fortification wall, as well as a scene from Buddhist legend, possibly one of the Jatakas, or previous lives of the Buddha, in which a male figure armed with a bow takes aim at a large feline-like creature. The inside of the box as well as the shallow tray are lacquered red inside with floral panels and completely illustrated bottoms. The outer side of the box's lower half is also decorated entirely in Nandwin imagery. As well as 2 scenes of men and elephants, again possibly from the Jatakas. With ankles crossed, with his hands in Bhumisparsa, with his right hand on his knee and the left on his lap, representing the Buddha calling the earth to witness with a delicate expression on his face through the fine modelling and engraving. The statue is decorated with fine details on his clothing. This bench was purchased in Chiang Mai in 1996 and is believed to be from Burma. It measures approx. 74" long by 26" wide by 48.5" tall. It is part of a unique dining set. The arms. Legs and back feature detailed carvings of people, animals and flowers/vegetation. There are intricate mother-of-pearl inlays. The legs take the form of elephant heads and trunks. The feet take the form of mythical creatures. The piece is currently in climate-controlled storage on Long Island, New York. Other pieces from the set are available separately. So finally I realised it was similar to the HSUN-OK After I went to an official jeweler and he told me it is gold-leaf on lacquerware. So I was happy of my found and I came back home to find more about this scarce item. The antiquarian told me it was coming from a King in Asia and after that man came in Canada and worked as a doctor in Montreal. He kept that collectable in his big house until he pass away at the age of 96. So I don’t know more about the history of this collectable. Probably from the 1890-1900. Antique Burmese Puppet. Naked 9" Tall This is not a toy. But an authentic early 20th century Burmese string puppet. He has 13 parts, three each on the legs and arms, the body and head is one solid wood piece. His feet pivot forward and hands bend backwards. I am not sure if this is depicting the Buddha, his rotund belly makes me think it is Buddha, the fact that he is naked makes me think otherwise. So, I am not sure if the puppet is simply depicting a portly man or a god. Original string holds him together. In great condition. No condition issues, uncleaned light antique patina. This is a rare pair of large Antique Burmese wood lacquer shun-ok offering bowls vessels with matching lids. The pieces are tall at 23 1/2" and 8" across the base. Each of the bowls consists of the base. Lid and interior fitted tray. They are heavy at 4.10 pounds each. They are both in very nice condition with no damage other than some light loss to the lacquer. There are no breaks or chips to the wood. Antique Burmese Flower Table red with gold decor
Table is in two parts namely the upper"plate" and the lower base. The plate is 16 inches in diameter and the entire table stands 22 inches tall. Overall condition is quite good given the age of this piece. There are some age cracks where the legs meet the plate support top. The color and gold trim have been well preserved with only minor losses.

RARE Antique Burmese Nat - Carved Wood. Spirit Worship Burma Buddhism Doll
I have two wonderful authentic antique Nats for sale this week. This sale is for the one pictured only. I bought these two in Burma in the early 90’s back when Burma saw fewer than 40.000 foreign visitors per year. At that time true antiques were easy to find but today it’s nearly impossible and sadly most are fakes. These two Nats are very weathered and this one more so than the other. The paint on the left side of his face is nearly gone and his real hair has become unraveled. The paint is chipped in a few places so take a good look at the photos. I suspect he sat under a Bo tree outdoors for many years but he is still wonderful to look at and is full of character. Burmese were animists who worshipped a series of nature spirits called Nats. These spirits became converted to Buddhism and thus became helpers of the monks. This was a deliberate policy on the part of King Anawratha and the rulers of Burma in the 11th century. At the same time, these spirits often have their own ceremonies and festivals and are worshipped in addition to the Buddha. There are 37 officially recognized Nats, each with its own history and image. The Nats, as spirits of natural forces, such as water, wind, stones and trees, take many guises. The Nats are all ghosts or spirits of heroes except for one, the chief Nat, Thagyamin Nat(the Indian god Indra, protector of royalty) who was elevated to this position in the 11th century by the great unifier, King Anawratha, who integrated Nat worship into Buddhism. He rubs the areas with colorant and lets it set for several days then wipes the colorant off. The lines are left with colorant in them. He continues until all areas are colored. He then polishes the piece with talcum powder to remove resins and shine the item. The results are what you see in the pictures. For your consideration is this beautifully detailed vintage/antique Burmese lacquer tray. Our consignor purchased this in the 1980's in Taiwan. It has areas that have been repainted with newer paint/lacquer to cover issues. There is a crack on one corner of the tray and small chips of lacquer on the border of the picture. The Dao was the national sword of the Naga tribe of Burma. They were fierce warriors and head hunters. This one is a classic example in fine antique condition. The hilt has a red painted or dyed wood or Bamboo root grip. At the blade end there is a heavy silver ferrule. The pommel which looks like bone but is the more expensive natural materiel has a nice age patina. On top. See photo, is an inlaid" cross" design which is outlined in brass. The maker took a lot of time to put this in this extra ornamentation. The flared straight single edged blade is hand-forged with a gray patina and a squared tip. One side near the tip has some age pitting. This blade is still fairly sharp. The are several good honest edge nicks and some cuts on the back also. This sword was used in battle. These guys are awesome! We bought them because we thought they were great. But we just have too much stuff! We didn't really know a lot about them, but the stands they were on still have partial tags(they must have been for sale in an antique store or vintage consignment or something) On the pieces of the tags that are left you can see where it had the words"Teak, Burmese, and"Marionette/Puppet" at one time- this is how we found out a few things about them. We know they are old, the darker guy looks older, and you can see in the pics where he has wear to his face and he has some wear to his clothing. Here's a genuine vintage/ antique Burmese/ South East Asia/ Vietnamese Dha sword. Included is a wood(type unknown) scabbard/ cover with string accents. It measures a total of 37" with the scabbard/ sheath. And the sword itself measures 34 1/2" The blade is 23" long. This was brought back from Vietnam by Lieutenant Kenneth J. Parkhurst Air Force. It is just as I got it in 1980. The sheath has some chips where the blade goes into it on the top& bottom. And common wear. It is in better condition than many I have seen on here for twice as much. Antique Burmese Dha Knife, Sword, Extremely Rare Grip
This is an extremely rare dha. About 30cm OAL. Typically these will have a tusk or tooth in the grip, but this particular example has a tooth from a certain large feline predator, making it a very unique example. I am told by an expert on these knives and swords that this animal has very special significance among the Karen people. The rest of the knife is complete. The silver work is excellent. BURMESE DHA TEMPLE SWORD HAND HAMMERED WITH SILVER INLAID BLADE This unusual sword is quite a piece with all of the hand work to the sheath as well as the a double side scribed blade with silver foil and wire inlay hammered in multiple designs and writing. The age of this piece is unknown. It has been a part of my medieval/ skull collection however i am letting some of the items go. This would make a great vintage conversation piece. I am getting rid of some great items as our house has become toooo cluttered. So check for other items i will be listing. ANY items shown in the background of photos are not included in the listing. DIMENSIONS: The overal lenght is 46 inches. the length of just the blade is 30 inches and for the blade and handle is 44-1/2 inches. The width of the sheath is ~ 2 inches. the width of the blade at the widest point ... moreis 1-1/2 inches. DETAILS/CONDITION: The sword blade has a cross hatched etching almost the entire length of the blade on both sides and within this area are multiple scene designs hammered in silver wire and silver foil. The blade edge is not really sharp and the blade does show some minor pitting in a few areas most likely due to the age. There areare 8 different figures and 1 foo dog hammered into each side of the blade. There is also writing hammered into the blade however it is in a language i cannot understand. I am a collector of many eras however I am not an expert on any particular one and my knowledge only comes from research. So please ask any questions prior to purchasing! The only thing I did to this is wiped it off from dust accumulation, from sitting in my living room along with all of my other oddities and mid century modern eames era items.
