Small Vintage Brass Hintha Bird Opium Weight Burmese/Thai: 24mm/ 17 g This is a pretty cast brass or bronze weight. With nice modelling and patination- ... moreIt is old but probably not antique- almost certainly made in the 20th century. Size: 24 mm( 2.4 cm) high weight: 17 grammes. Payment must be made within 7 days of winning bid unless other arrangements have been made. If there is a problem with payment. Please contact me. I am quite reasonable and willing to help sort out any problems, but If I receive no contact after 7 days have passed, a non-payment case will be opened and I will offer the item to the next highest bidder. Payments from overseas must be made with paypal unless other arrangements are agreed with me prior to bidding. U.K payments can be made via paypal, personal cheque or postal order. Cash on collection is also possible by arrangement, but only for heavy items which would otherwise incur high postal charges. Combined Shipping for items: If you buy more than one item from me. Please wait to be invoiced before paying so that I can apply an appropriate postage discount. I will combine multiple purchases to help reduce postage costs where possible, as it is usually possible to post several small items in one parcel for less than the cost of sending them in separate parcels. Note: Overseas shipments have to weigh less than 2kg packed weight to be sent by Airmail, otherwise they have to go by courier, which is usually much more expensive. For overseas shipments, It is best to ask first if I can combine your items before you bid. Postage Costs: I keep my postage costs to a reasonable level- but they do have to reflect the costs of lightweight packaging materials and the time spent packing the item properly so that it will arrive with you in one piece. I usually add about one pound on top of what Royal Mail charge as the shipping cost. It is not my aim to make a profit out of shipping costs, but I do spend many hours packing items and my time is valuable too. Recorded delivery: I always obtain pro

Opium Weight set, Bermese Opium Weights, Doctor's Office Display, Antique Drugs
Up for sale is a SET of antique BURMESE OPIUM WEIGHTS pro-mounted in a hardwood Oak Shadowbox with hanger on back. Can be wall-hung OR display in setting position. I purchased these from an estate sale of a Doctor friend. They were on display in his office. His wife told me that they purchased them from a professional collector. They then had them mounted in this hand built box with glass cover by DECK THE WALLS frame shop in Lynchburg Va. She thinks the frame-work cost almost $100. She couldn't remember what they paid for the weights at the time but she thought it was about $125 to $175 for the pair. I have found the larger bird on ebay for over $130 alone-I think. The small ones seem to range from $30 to $50 each. Keep in mind that these are framed for display. I have never owned these before and am not a pro. Please see pictures and ... moreask questions before bidding. Oak frame display with glass cover is about 9" x 9" x 2 3/8" in size. The paper on the back has a couple of stains as pictured. The birds are about 2 1/2" and 1" tall measuring thru the glass. The TEXT is also under glass and matted as pictured. It tells what these are and dates the use of them from 1200 to 1850. USA SALES ONLY. Shipping is set at $10 insured. This will make a great antique collector gift or DR-office display. Very nice set-BID TODAY. Thanks

Great Antique Estate Find Burmese Rooster Chicken Opium Scale Weights
This is a great grouping of antique weights with a little stand included. The tallest weights measures 1 5/8" high. The 2 small ones measure 1 1/8" high. I purchased this at an estate sale of a collector of Asian art. Please check out other listings I will be posting. The piece had a note with it that indicates that they are Burmese opium weights circa 1600s- 1800s. From close inspection. It looks like one large and 2 small ones are one set and the other large one is a single, but that is just my opinion. Please let me know if you have any questions. From a non-smoking home. Thank you.

Description I am offering here a collection(not a set) of six antique Burmese opium weights. All are of the beast form. Weights from 1/8 tical to 10 ticals. The individual photos at left are of each weight in descending order from 10 tical to 1/8 tical. They all look brighter in the photos than in hand. I have listed the characteristics of each weight to the best of my ability: 10 tical/163.5 gr. Octagonal base, 4 horizontal base lines, sign is indistinguishable, 1767-1785 King Hsinbyushin, upward curled"beard" chest beading two rows, nice dark patina, base has rough scratches and a deep gouge 5 tical/81.7 gr. Octagonal base, 4 horizontal base lines, 5 ray star is clearly visible, 1767-1785 King Hsinbyushin, upward curled"beard" chest beading single row, very nice patina 2 tical/32.6 gr. Octagonal base, 3 horizontal base ... morelines, no star sign visible, uncertain of date/period, chest beading single row- this weight has a somewhat brassy patina but with the expected signs of wear 1 tical/16.8 gr. Octagonal base, 3 horizontal base lines, what looks to be a 4 circle sign is visible, date- much older than others I think, single row of chest beading, nice rich dark patina 1/4 tical/3.1 gr. Square base, 2 horizontal base lines, no star sign visible, uncertain of date/period- this weight has a different tail and horn configuration than the others, upward curled"beard" no chest beading, nice patina and wear 1/8 tical/1.8 gr. Round or hexagonal base, 2 horizontal base lines, no star sign, beard" or chest beading, slightly brassy patina I have described and dated these weights based on what I could find in Donald and Joan Gear's classification table of forms and marks. They have not been evaluated by an expert. Please view the photos carefully before bidding and request additional details if needed. These weights were acquired by me at a reputable auction house in Virginia. Payment Payment is expected within 3 days of auction end. Immediate payment is always appreciated. I accept payment

Item ID: OPW-D3-140404 Title: BURMA-LAO-THAILAND(GOLDEN TRIANGLE) OPIUM WEIGHT DUCK(HAMZA MYHTICAL BIRD) SHAPE SET OF 3 Date: AD 19th Century- early 20th Century Material: Bronze(copper. Tin, zinc) Condition: Very fine condition. No scratch, no rust Description: 1 set of 3 Duck(Hamza Myhtical Bird) shape opium weight: 161. 81, 32 g. The mountain tribes of the Golden Triangle(Burma.Lao and Thailand) used these small animal-figure weights to weight opium when the opium trade was flourishing in the area around the 18-19th century, although they were made actually for everyday use, including all sort of commercial. It is not exactly known when this sort of weight originated but some archaeological excavation documentation mentioned a finding of duck shape and lion shape sculptures dating back to 100-400 A.D. in Central Burma. Hamza(or Hinta) ... moreMyhtical Birds(more of Swan) was considered by Burmese a sacred animal. Living in the sacred place called"Himalaya Forest" and bring good luck to worshiper. It is hard to tell the age of each opium weight. But it can be estimated by the consistancy of the alloy it made of. Up until last half of 19th century, they were made of bronze while the older ones, made in 16th/17th century, contained more copper and thus are more reddish color. During late 17th and 18th century, tin was most prevalent and giving more silvery hue. Most after that they were cast from alloy with solf yellow of bronze. In the late 19th/20th century the material was majorly brass. Modern reproductions are plenty in market. And they are not to be condemned as long as they are being offered at price corresponding to their true value and specified with accurate date of production. They are fakes as soon as their asking price represents those of old originals. OPIUM-GEWICHTE. BURMA. CAMBODIA. CHINA. INDIA. INDONESIA. JAPAN. KOREA. LANKA. LAO. THAILAND. TIBET. Antique Bronze Burmese Quadrupeds'Toe' Opium Weight. 303g. Pegu District, 19th Century. Overview: The Burmese mythical beast the Crested Quadrupeds. Also known as'Toe' a sacred animal from Burmese folklore that inhabited the Himalayan forest; is considered the rarest of opium weights, identified by the face of a lion, curling beard, horns, protrusions of the head, hooves, and the tail of a horse. A fabulous creature symbolic of purity, divine knowledge and cosmic breath. XXX The mountain tribes of the Golden Triangle Region. Burma, Lao, and Thailand, originally intended the use of these miniature animal figures to weigh'opium' during the 18th-19th centuries, a time when the forbidden Opium trade was flourishing in such occupied territories ... morewhich straddled the Thai-Burmese border. XXX The phrase'Opium Weight' used to describe the small. Curious-looking metal animal and bird figures is somewhat misleading- while the weights actually serve a much wider, more useful purpose; they were used to gauge the weight of daily items of commerce found in the Burmese market-place, such as food, raw materials, spices, musk, gemstone, metal, both ordinary and precious, and expensive medicine, all of which were sold in quanities determined by these weights. Items were measured by a beam hung with two baskets or trays, the correct weight was placed in one basket and the other basket filled with the desired material until the two baskets balanced. Description: The Quadruped: Boldly modelled to resembles the Burmese lion which guards the entrances to temples throughout Burma. The round plump body. Long tail, rounded hooves are more like that of a horse, the head is crowned with a pair of horns, below which are small pointed ears, decorated with sprigs of foliage curling from a grinning mouth, delicately detailed with bulging eyes, crested headdress, and arched tail plumage. Hooves are firmly planted on a solid tappered
