Small Vintage Brass Hintha Bird Opium Weight Burmese/Thai: 24mm/ 17 g This is a pretty cast brass or bronze weight. With nice modelling and patination- ... moreIt is old but probably not antique- almost certainly made in the 20th century. Size: 24 mm( 2.4 cm) high weight: 17 grammes. Payment must be made within 7 days of winning bid unless other arrangements have been made. If there is a problem with payment. Please contact me. I am quite reasonable and willing to help sort out any problems, but If I receive no contact after 7 days have passed, a non-payment case will be opened and I will offer the item to the next highest bidder. Payments from overseas must be made with paypal unless other arrangements are agreed with me prior to bidding. U.K payments can be made via paypal, personal cheque or postal order. Cash on collection is also possible by arrangement, but only for heavy items which would otherwise incur high postal charges. Combined Shipping for items: If you buy more than one item from me. Please wait to be invoiced before paying so that I can apply an appropriate postage discount. I will combine multiple purchases to help reduce postage costs where possible, as it is usually possible to post several small items in one parcel for less than the cost of sending them in separate parcels. Note: Overseas shipments have to weigh less than 2kg packed weight to be sent by Airmail, otherwise they have to go by courier, which is usually much more expensive. For overseas shipments, It is best to ask first if I can combine your items before you bid. Postage Costs: I keep my postage costs to a reasonable level- but they do have to reflect the costs of lightweight packaging materials and the time spent packing the item properly so that it will arrive with you in one piece. I usually add about one pound on top of what Royal Mail charge as the shipping cost. It is not my aim to make a profit out of shipping costs, but I do spend many hours packing items and my time is valuable too. Recorded delivery: I always obtain pro

OLD OPIUM WEIGHT BURMA BRID BRONZ
OLD OPIUM WEIGHT BURMA BRID BRONZ The term opium weight is somewhat a misnomer. While there is little doubt that Burmese animal weights were used to measure opium. Their use was more widely applied to weighing a variety of substances including silver ingots, pearls, precious stones, coral, spices, musk and expensive medicines. Dome shaped marble weights were used to weigh more commonplace items. The earliest known opium weights date back to at least the 14th century. Though unfortunately it is believed that many of the earlier weights were melted down to be remolded into new shapes. The production of opium weights ceased shortly after the British forcefully incorporated Burma into the British Raj in 1885. Royal animal weights were made from bronze using the lost wax method and great lengths were taken to ensure the accuracy of the weight. ... moreThe weights and measures system was scrutinized by the king and each time a new king took the throne. A new set of weights were made in a style of his choosing. A master set of weights was produced, which were kept in the Hlut-taw or Supreme Council of State and all weights produced henceforth had to conform to this standard. The mass unit in Burma is referred to as the kyat or tical. A term known to be in use since 1515AD. The tical mass varied from 10.4 grams in the 15th century to 16.3 grams in 1830. One hundred tical was referred to as 1 viss, which was about 3.5 pounds. Burmese opium weights appear in the form of either a bird or a mythical beast referred to by various names including‘lions’ Chinthè. To or to- naya and to-aung.
