The etchings in the silver blade are clear. Areas of tarnish do exist. There are several small nicks along the unsharpened edge, especially near the tip. Blade is straight, but a little loose in the hilt. Hilt is in excellent condition with only some 'small curves' at the base. This could be due to being made by hand. Fits snugly into sheath. Sheath is also in very nice shape for it's age. There are the same 'small curves' along the edge where the hilt snaps in. Two areas where sections have come apart, shown in photos.

Dating from the mid to late 19th century and originating from Burma. The body is carved. Lacquered, and gilded wood decorated with inlaid glass gems and mirror work. The head, hands, and feet are made or carved white translucent alabaster, and the ornate gilded head piece is made of metal. Circa 1865- 1890's. Mandalay. Burma(Myanmar) SIZE: Height(including headpiece& base) 21.25" 54 cm) Width- 12.5" 31.8 cm) Depth- 8.5" 21.6 cm) This Buddha is very elegant and striking with a beautiful. Peaceful expression carved into the alabaster face and graceful stylized carving of the hands and feet. It depicts the Buddha as a young man. The head dress or crown ... moreis made of cut and fabricated metal. Probably sheet iron or brass, and decorated with stamp-work, hand-cut inlaid glass mirrors, and a gilded surface. It is removable. The carved alabaster head has elongated ears and sits in a cavity at the neckline of the carved wooden body. It is easily removable. The alabaster is of a fine grade. Very pure and white with a slightly translucent quality that makes it almost glow in the light. The features of the face are carved, incised, and colored black, red, and blue(the eyes) The hands and feet are permanently attached to the wood body and are not movable. They are also beautifully carved and look very life-like. The body of the Buddha is of carved wood with a graceful thin form. The surface is gilded lacquer and is decorated with inlaid mirrors of clear and green glass. As well there are ornate raised lines and a mine-cut large clear glass gem in the center of the chest. Large Cinnabar Burmese Kwet Bowl late 19th/early 20th Century
Large Cinnabar Lacquer Burmese Kwet Bowl c.1900 The cinnabar lacquer covering this late 19th/early 20th century Burmese“kwet. or serving bowl, is satin smooth and cool to the touch. Condition: This large bowl is in very good condition with some minor wear to the extremities which makes for a phenomenal patina. It's very sturdy. Dimensions: diameter 15“38.2 cm) Height 6” 16.2 cm) Weight: 1 pound. 3.2 ounces Back Story: Years of daily use have enhanced both the look and feel of this large bowl. With black lacquer showing through the red in areas of wear. Six black ribs curve down to the feet, and the top is curved and rolled inward, giving the vessel beautiful balance. The old Burmese process of producing such lacquer pieces was labor intensive and time consuming. Woven and coiled bamboo that forms the base of the bowl was coated with a ... morepaste made of finely ground clay and lacquer, then placed underground to dry for about a week. The piece was then polished and a second coat of finer material made from sifted teak sawdust and lacquer was applied, dried and polished. The same process was then repeated with successive coatings of even finer material made from ground bone or ash mixed with lacquer. Finally, many weeks later, when the surface was totally smooth, finishing coats of lacquer were applied. Surviving pieces from a time when artisans practiced such skills become more beautiful with use as the top coats of cinnabar-colored lacquer wear through in places to show the black lacquer undercoating. BURMESE SILVER BOX SIGNED - 19TH CENTURY - EXQUISITE WORKMANSHIP
This is a box I bought in Burma back in 1997. During that time the country highly restricted tourism and so there were still antique Burmese handcrafted silver boxes available. This one is estimated to be early 1900's. I made the decision to clean it. It took me three hours but I took off over a 100 years of tarnish and dirt. This is now how it looked the day it was crafted. See the final four photos for comparison before and after. The dimensions when closed: 2 3/4 inches in length. 2 inches in width, 2 1/2 inches in height. The weight: 5.6 ounces or 160 grams. Antique 19th Century Bronze Burmese Bell Kyeezee Spinning Gong Elephant Howdah
Up for sale is an antique heavy bronze kyeezee or burmese bell. Gong can be suspended from a cord and held in hand while striking the tip with a small wooden mallet. Thus causing it to sound and spin simultaneously. This traditional Burmese instrument features a large elephant with a howdah perched on its back. The relief is duplicated on the reverse. It appears to be cast bronze with an engraved design. I had listed this item previously as an amulet or medallion before having it properly appraised. Despite its intended purpose, it can certainly be worn as an amulet on a leather cord or simply used as a decorative paperweight. It measures approximately 6 by 4 inches. Piece shows some wear with a dark patina. Piece is unmarked and the true age is unknown. I did notice, however, a mark on the reverse side of the bale but I do not know if this ... moreis a hallmark. An I believe Mid 19th Century proposition in every sense. The figural weight is conceived as a Hintha duck and shows a frieze of notches at the top of the round base. This corresponds very well to type"H3B" on Hartmut Mollat's model chronology chart, so dating circa 1850 or so(prior to 1868) there is no verification mark evident, but in this case that is a good thing- Mollat says it is usually missing on this type. The offered necessity of trade and commerce fulfills all of Mollat's criterea for the H3B type. Beautiful antique solid brass chalice/ footed bowl. Believed to be 19th century Burmese. The bowl has a nice rich patina on the outside and oxidation in the bowl. The bowl interior would probably benefit from cleaning. But I'll leave that up to the buyer. It shows definite signs of age, and you might like it that way. I was reluctant to attempt to clean any of this off. It's actually very nice as is. The bowl also seems to separate from the base, but in order to avoid damaging it, I didn't try. If you look underneath, you'll see the block that the threads are carved into. Both the bowl and the base are finely hand chased. The base has a typical Indian floral design. Antique Burmese Dha with Rayskin hilt and brass fiitings - late 19th century
This is a dha in great condition. Light patina, with Chinese-style brass saber fittings. Originally purchased at arms and armor auction in the late 1990's, it is somewhat of a"mystery" piece but the blade is very sharp, well proportioned for it's purpose(a little blade heavy in balance but it's a chopper style anyway" and clearly well formed, with a decent polish and very little waviness if any. This is not a poor reproduction or"tourist" item(as is common throughout the period) but a solid, genuine weapon-grade blade in some nice brass fittings. The handle is wood with rayskin, a little worn but still very functional.

Up for bid is neat old Burmese Dah fixed blade knife. The knife was obtained with some military items and was presumably brought home as a souvenir by a WWII American serviceman. The knife measures 16.75 inches while in the scabbard. The blade alone measures 9 inches in length. The knife exhibits some period wear and use but remains in fairly solid condition. The knife and scabbard exhibit some small dents& dings. Blade has some oxidation and light rust. The bone handle has a few small tight age cracks. Neat old knife. The Buddha is sitting in the Mara Vijaya posture(calling the earth to witness) meditating on a lotus throne wrapped in a gold gilt highlighted robe. The sculpture is beautifully executed from a single block of alabaster with a calming. Serene facial expression and fine detailing. The surface is relatively smooth with some chisel marks present in the small openings and on the back and bottom. It has a wonderful, naturally aged patina. The sculpture came from the estate of a well traveled military admiral and is believed to date to the 19th century, no identifying marks. They are divided between the 37 Great Nats and all the rest(i.e. Spirits of trees, water, etc. Almost all of the 37 Great Nats were human beings who met violent deaths( စိမ်းသေ. Lit. green death" They may thus also be called nat sein( နတ်စိမ်း; lit. green spirits) The word'sein' While meaning'green' is being used to mean'raw' in this context. There are however two types of nats in Burmese Buddhist belief.
