Antique Art Nouveau Edwardian Yellow & Green Majolica Tile - Corn Brothers ?
Up for auction is an Art Nouveau Edwardian Majolica Tile probably made by Corn Brothers. The tile is 6 inches(approx 15 cm) square. It is decorated with a stylised central image in yellow and green depicting stylised flowerheads. Stems and leaves. All on a cream background. The tile has a lovely glossy majolica finish to the surface. Unfortunately as you can see this tile has the top left corner missing. However it would display well with sensitive framing or could perhaps be used in a project where a part tile was required. Apart from the missing corner there is also a bit of minor chipping/ nibbling affecting the left and bottom edges. There are a couple of tiny marks to the surface towards the lower right corner. And a tiny dark mark below the central image towards the left. The surface of the tile has overall crazing commensurate with ... moreage& the odd scratch. There are a few small areas where the colours are outside their designated areas a common manufacturing flaw in tiles of this period and style. Please enlarge photo to see tile in more detail. This is a beautiful antique art tile. It was made. Probably around 1900 at the Boch Frères Kéramis factory. The factory was founded by Victor Boch in 1841 in La Louvière in Belgium. This green tile has a central pair of wild roses with beautiful acanth us leaf borders. The green gla ze has pooled into deeper areas of the tile and created gorg eo us depth in color. The tile has an iridescent sheen to it. Showing off cobalt, aqua, and violet! It is one of many we have purchased from a collector of anti que ti les. Up for auction is a pretty Art Nouveau moulded tile dating to circa 1916- possibly made by Pilkingtons? The tile is 6 inches(approx 15 cm) square. It is decorated with a large central art nouveau stylised image depicting a pink central flower& buds with associated foliage arranged to make a beautiful shape. This is surrounded by a linear green border with lines out to the 4 corners which have attractive pink flower decoration. The moulding to the tile is very subtle. Offered for your bidding consideration is a handsome antique tile made by Cambridge. It features 3 French fleur-de-lis reliefs colored in a light sage green. I recently discovered this tile and others while digging for antique bottles under a porch in Stockton. CA. The home was built in 1909 and was slated for demolition. I believe I had dug up a trash pit once used by the original builders just before completion of the home where they had discarded left over materials. Some of the glazing is worn on part of the fleur-de-lis on the far left. See below for more details. Asian Roof Tile - Immortal on Rooster - Celadon green
Here is an old Asian roof tile. This is an end piece with the medalion face on the end. There is an immortal riding on the back of an oversized rooster. The immortal appears to have been repaired at the neck during the production process. As the cracked area is under the glaze. One for the connoisseur collector, of individual style and manufacture. Love the colour too, a superb emerald green set against a brilliant white ground. The style a kind of renaissance rather over the top in a baroque manner and with classical elements as typically found in renaissance styling. This combination very much mid-edwardian, few buildings in such style can still be found and tiles are almost as rare. The mid-edwardian era also the midst of the art nouveau era of extreme experimentation in design when classical design served as a refuge for those of more traditional ... moretaste this one of the boldest and outrageous examples of the fusion seen on tile. More often seen in terracotta facades of theatres. Hostelries and similar architectural situations where the effect of the style is more muted due to the monochrome material. Brilliant white for it is porcelain. It is extremely rare to find porcelain tiles other than those by Copeland. And dust pressed porcelain, another rarity and thicker than usual close to the half inch'hearth quality' standard. Booths rarely used the common, porous white clay mostly they used a semi-vitrfied pale buff but also celadon, pale blue and olive. All these clays resisted crazing of the glazes and it seems they afforded more brilliant glazes too. So a rare style. A rare colour, rare body, in all a very rare tile. Largish chip bottom left corner. A few very tiny minute marks at/near the rim. Two light scratches only seen when caught just so in the light. Description These triangular tiles were made by the popular Victorian firm of Trent. Located in Trenton, New Jersey. Each one has a slight variation in color. As shown in the pictures. Victorian aesthetic Green and white tile H R T Wheat sheaf Beaulah Bonhams
This is an interesting 6 inch Victorian aesthetic tile. It contains a wheat sheaf design. The tile is marked H R T Co England and then appears to have a small 3R mark and a 51 marked in the corner. It is in unused condition but has two chips to the bottom corners. This tile comes from the G K BEAULAH tiles sale at Bonhams on 25th January 1995. It has the original sticker for the sale on the front for lot no 212. On the rear. It has the Beaulah catalogue number: 1334. There is also a red sticker on the edge with a number 225. Ken Beaulah was author of Church Tiles of the C19th and a founder member of the Tiles and Architectural Ceramic Society. He began collecting whilst still at school in York. His collection of tiles was all meticulously accessioned. Photographed and documented in a two volume personal catalogue. He is an important figure ... morein the study of architectural tiles. Vintage Ceramic Liner Tile Sizzle Deco Border American Encaustic Co Green
Old stock in box 42 pieces of American Encaustic liner tile. Each piece is slightly under 6 inches long by measurement 5 15/16. The box lists them at 6 inches by.5 inch wide. they are slightly over.25 thick. And fit nicely with standard new square or subway tiles. One box is generally enough for the perimeter of a standard bungalow bathroom. Multiple boxes available. Smaller quantities available for a kitchen backsplash or tub surround only.
