RARE Antique J& M.P Bells Glasgow Pottery'Marble' Pattern Chamber Pot– Rare Pattern. Description For auction is a beautiful and very rare ... moreJ& M. P. Bells Glasgow pottery'marble' pattern chamber pot. This beautiful chamber pot measures approx. 22cm in diameter. Approx 14.5cm in height and approx.25cm in length from handle to the lip of the chamber pot. The chamber pot is decorated in a grey marble pattern which seem to have been done before glazing and firing. The chamber pot is heavy and solid. There is a small chip at the base of the chamber pot, this is very old chip as it has aged and discoloured. There are some light patches of crazing over the pot, this can be seen on the underside. The J& M.P. Bells pottery in Glasgow suffered from a major fire and as such may moulds. Templates and other equipment was totally destroyed. Sometime ago researchers dug through the factory remains to try and find what remains they could. This means that may of Bells patterns, styles and pottery was destroyed and lost. After extensive research regarding this'marble' pattern. I have found only one reference towards it. This was in Henry H. Kelly's definitive book'The Glasgow pottery of John and Matthew Perston Bell. This chamber pot was looked at by a Glasgow pottery expert who had never come across this pattern from the Bells factory before. This was backed up by an academic and historian at an Edinburgh museum. They both advised that the only reference to this pattern could be made through Henry H. Kelly's book and that this pattern is a true rarity. Due to my location it could be more than possible that this pattern was a'New' technique or idea that was only made on a few pieces that then went home with employees rather than for sale to the public. This theory was also backed up by expert opinion. This is a beautiful piece of pottery heavy and solid. The grey and white colours are surprisingly modern and would not look out of place in any bathroom I was lucky enough to come

Several dynasties of Turkish origin created unique Islamic art forms now referred to as Seljuk art. Amongst their achievements was production of cobalt blue& luster ware potteries. Rare Antique Victorian 19th C Ornate Brass or Bronze Tray Painted Bird Tile Old
19th Century Brass or Bronze Footed Tray with Hand-Painted Bird Tile I recently found this Rare Museum Quality piece stored away in the attic of an old Boston. MA Estate. This is a Superb 19th Century piece for the serious collector. I am not an expert on antique tiles or trays. So please view the photos provided as they will give you an excellent view of the condition and style of this piece. The tray measures approximately 11 3/16" Long(handle to handle) x 8 5/16" wide x 2" high(bottom of foot to top of handle) I believe the metal is brass. But it could be bronze. The metal retains it's fine original patina. Each handle on this highly ornate tray appears to be composed of two merging serpents or long necked birds(please see photos) The border of the tray features rope patterns and intertwined leaves/vines. There are four ... moreclawed feet. One on each corner of the tray. The tile is exquisite. Although I'm not certain about this. It may have an Asian Aesthetic. The colors are vivid and the quality of the hand-painted image is amazing. I tried to show the tile under various lighting conditions. The third photo. Where it's being held in front of a wall most accurately shows the colors under normal lighting conditions. The blue. Green, yellow and white bird contrast nicely with the incredible pink background. I'm not sure what kind of colorful bird is depicted on the tile, perhaps it's a type of finch or bird in the parakeet family? Condition: Excellent Original condition. The tile is in great shape showing just a few minor surface marks. This is a substantial tray. Weighing nearly 4 Lbs. The tile is held in place by the thin brass/bronze sheet covering the back(please see photos) There is a small screw securing each foot from the back and a small screw securing all four corners of the metal backing. Antique Art nouveau tiles. T & R Boote, 1905. Iridescent green. Tube lined. Rare
I am selling these tiles as a set because I do not wish to split them up- they look great together and there are enough of them to do something good with. They are by T& R Boote and date to 1905. They are standard 6 inch tiles. They are tube lined and it is difficult to see but the ground is a deep bottle green with surface iridescence. The condition is very good there are a few nibbles to the corners as can be seen in the photograph but basically they are excellent. I have a shop in SHrewsbury where you are welcome to view. This awesome piece came from the estate of a world traveler. And collector of high quality items. This is a rare antique Qajar molded and glazed Iranian tile, in relief. This is by far, the prettiest one I have seen. Young boy on horseback, with his falcon on his arm, and his dog by his side. Stamped on back, and in a speciality made frame, made to accomodate the relief pattern in this tile. Condition very good with something as old as this is. Crack that is not noticeable under horses hind leg, but that is the one one I see, and that is remarkable considering the age of this item. Measures approx. 8.5" by 11" framed. Just out of a local house is this Rare Batchelder tile. It advertises the tile company from Pasadena and Los Angeles California that was in production from 1909 to 1932. The tile measures 3 7/8 inches across at its widest. It has a soft matte blue green glaze. It is in very good condition with one small nick on the lower right corner area. See photos. The tile is pictured in The Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles Vol. 4 on page 49. Would make a nice addition to any collection. Guaranteed old and as described.

Between 1888 to 1893 Charles Volkmar produced pieces under the name of the Menlo Park Ceramic Company. He then moved his pottery back across the river from New York. Between 1903 to 1911 in Metuchen, Volkmar operated what was referred to as Volkmar Kilns or Charles Volkmar& Son. His single tiles can sell for hundreds of dollars. These off-white tiles have a fascinating raised geometric design of stars, starbursts and other geometric shapes. I tried photographing them with and without the flash. A rare original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 3" This lustrous and vibrant emerald green tile has three large. Raised, spear-like buds in an unusual khaki colour, with glorious little sky-blue forget-me-not flowers peeping through behind them. Virtually mint condition. When turned to a strong light source, the very slightest of surface rubbing is visible along the extreme upper and lower edges, and even less so to the high central points of two of the buds. Fine background crackle-crazing due to age. The rear is marked: A.M. ENGLAND' 6' and has a rectangular arrangement of 6 raised dots. This tile is from my own collection. Easily postable. The sale is for these magnificent antique tiles that were made by the Providential Tile Works company in the late 1800's and in one of the most desirable color glazes. The main body are comprised of 2 five tile panels that would have been used on either side of a fireplace surround. Each tile is 6" square. There are 4 additional tiles from this original surround that each measure 6x9 inches for a total of 14 tiles. The original surround would have had 17 tiles. Three of the tiles are missing BUT the two side panels(5 tiles each) are intact. Please check the sold listing for tiles on ebay. A listing with just the 2 side panels(10 tiles) sold for almost $4000(also a book piece) It was described as having small chips. They were beautiful tiles with a beautiful glaze. I believe their high price was because they were semi nudes. They ... morewere not nearly as complex as these tiles and had FAR less detail. The tiles I have listed are in very very good condition for antique tiles. There are some flaws. The chief among them is a corner chip on one of the 6x9 inch tiles. It is difficult to notice but it seems a very thin area was"shaved" on one tile on the 6x6's.presumably to fit the mantle. There are some small abrasions. Please supersize the pictures and ask questions. These tiles do appear in Karlson's book on tiles(a bible of tile collecting)

An exquisite original(antique) European Art Nouveau tubelined tile measuring 6" x 3" This lustrous tile features a rather artichoke-like waterlily flower( in amber shades on a lily pad of blended bright olive green and caramel-brown. With flanking stylized leaf forms in the same caramel-brown and teal-green. The background is a very unusual bright ice-blue colour. Near mint condition with just some extreme edge chipping to the bottom edge and right side/top corner from removal out of a washstand or other furniture. Please see the detailed scans. A rare and unusual original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" This is the only tile I have seen in this design in over 15 years of collecting. It features deep French-blue to navy-blue flowers. Apple green spiralling stems and a ribbon-like band at the top. The main flower sits in a primrose-yellow heart-shaped cartouche surrounded by enfolding apple-green leaves. Very unusual. The background is a duck-egg blue colour. Virtually mint condition. I can find no faults at all. The lower corners were chamfered at the time of manufacture to fit furniture or a fireplace(the rear is so clean, it looks unused) There is broad, attractive crackle crazing due to age. This is a group of 13 antique tiles. It includes 5 square tiles and 8 trim pieces. The size of a square tiles is slightly more than 4" x 4" To give you an idea of the size. The tiles came of off a demolition of a house in San Jose. California that was built in 1869, but they might be earlier. As they were used inside to ornament a built in stove. In my opinion.
