Antique Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Art Deco Floor Medallion 4 Tiles 13" Square
For your consideration is this group of 4 art deco floor tiles by Villeroy and Boch with a total of 7 groups available. Each of the 4 tiles measure 6 5/8" square. Making a medallion that measures about 13 1/4" and are about 5/8" thick. They were likely floor tile and I would guess date to the first quarter of the 20th century. When placed together 4 tiles form an intricate, colorful medallion with a bold geometric design. Each tile is signed but alot of them have just enough mortar residue to fill in most of the signature. They are very nice but they are used, salvaged from a building and stashed in the St. Louis area. Virtually every tile will have some very minor edge chips, some color variation and varying degrees of mortar and grout residue. Nothing that detracts from the strong graphics of these unusual tiles. They would ... morebe great for a central medallion in a room, a table top or countertop. I have a few culls out of the group, some of which have a very minor imperfection if anyone would need a few more to complete their project. Maker unknown. Each tile is printed in brown with an image covering the whole tile surface with large flowers and associated foliage. There is a diagonal design depicting abstract floral shapes& leaves with linear borders. The tiles have been hand finished in pinks. Greens and yellow. Scrolling rococo design on a finely stippled ground set within a central raised square border ~ two facing one way the other two being mirrored. Outer edge slightly sloping downwards with envelope style corners. Would look lovely used as additional decoration to wood panelling or simply on ... morethe wall just as they are. Size- Each tile is about 6 inches by 6 inches Square These 4 tiles are in EXCELLENT condition and I have photographed the minor chips in the edges I can see. These tiles DO NOT appear to have ever been set as the backs are clean. This is a set of 4 each matching tiles- made by The Campbell Tile Co. Stoke Upon Trent: The partnership between Colin Minton Campbell and Michael Daintry Hollins ended in 1868. It produced a split in the famous Minton company. With Campbell in charge of china production at Minton's China Works, and Hollins producing tiles of various types at Minton, Hollins& Co. Campbell also started to produce tiles, but it was not until he took over an existing tileworks in 1875 that production of encaustic and mosaic floor tiles began. A very special original(antique) high Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" This stunning design in four colours features a full poppy(or tulip? flower in graduated ice-blue to slate-blue. At its centre and revealed between the scrolling petals are detailed amber seeds and stamens. Hanging from the flower are two pendants of tiny amber flowers. The whiplash stems and spear-shaped leaves are in khaki-olive graduating to a brighter green. On a bright green background which is iridescent. This tile is in fabulous, near mint condition. In scrutinizing it for listing on eBay, I can only detect the following: some minor nibbling to the extreme edges and perhaps the lightest of surface rubbing to the highest points of the leaves and one section of associated outlining at the bottom(but you have to look for it! A rare and unusual original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" This is the only tile I have seen in this design in over 15 years of collecting. It features deep French-blue to navy-blue flowers. Apple green spiralling stems and a ribbon-like band at the top. The main flower sits in a primrose-yellow heart-shaped cartouche surrounded by enfolding apple-green leaves. Very unusual. The background is a duck-egg blue colour. Virtually mint condition. I can find no faults at all. The lower corners were chamfered at the time of manufacture to fit furniture or a fireplace(the rear is so clean, it looks unused) There is broad, attractive crackle crazing due to age. Most historic commercial buildings have cornices to cap their facades. Usually found in buildings constructed before 1900. Approx 70 years old or more and this piece is an great vintage Architectural element. Many like these could be used as art displayed on interior and exterior walls. As you can see in the photos there is aging but nothing out of character on such pieces. These pieces that I will be listing on Ebay have been outside for 50 plus years. The cornice could possibly even be polished-I have not tried it to clean them or polish. Although this old patina is handsome as is. An Architectural like this could be used for various purposes other than what it was intentionally made. Description This antique circa 17th-19th century English medieval Gothic embossed terracotta pottery tile. Is either an A.W.N. Pugin style Arts& Crafts tile from mid 19th century or an original 17th century medieval example, we are not sure. It has a central panel of three sunflowers tied with a ribbon and bead ball border and small flower head to each corner. The tile corner sections have alternate sunflower heads and fleur de lis leaf details. The tile has hand trimmed edges and hand scraped back and is unmarked. The wear and hand finish on the back would suggest an early date but the exceptional condition of the front might suggest a 19th century piece. CONDITION It is in good condition apart from little chips to the top two corners. 4 Vintage Antique Cement Tiles Marked Rauzy Lyon - France?
Here is a set of 4 vintage/antique tiles that I believe are made from cement. The tiles measure about 9" wide and about 3/4" deep. They are all marked on the back with'RAUZY' and'LYON' In trying to find out about the origin of these tiles- I came across a website- that shows an extremely similar tile that is identified as an antique cement tile from France- circa 1800's. However. I have been unable to find more information on Rauzy Lyon. The tiles have a bit of roughness around the edge, that may be normal, I really don't know. One of the tiles has a small chip on the top edge- I have taken pictures of each tile separately so you can zoom in to view. I can send any additional photos that you request.
