Hello and thank you for viewing our listing for this very beautiful contemporary tile and iron plaque. This tile has a bat and moon design done in the cuerda seca technique using rich hand painted colors. The tile is set in our hand forged iron frame. Which has a hammered border and chiseled motifs around it. The frame is signed on the back. It measures 9 1/2"T x 11"W overall. Tile is a 6" x 6" This iron frame has a traditional blacksmith finish of beeswax. We are artist-blacksmiths that create hand forged ironwork for spanish and mission style homes. Fabulous large antique Art Nouveau German or Austrian figural tile with lovely long-haired maiden with column design and a flaming urn. Gorgeous dress with flowing fabric. Might be manufactured by Carl Luber/ Johann von Schwarz( Germany) Or Bernard Bloch and Eichwald firm( Austria) Both were in business in the c.1900 time frame and featured gorgeous Art Nouveau scenes with ladies and shared employees over the years. The mark on the back is impressed in the clay- 4986. In any case a great example of the detailed workmanship of the era and beautiful painting of the face and the glazes. Measures 7" wide and 14" long. There is an old frame( looks original) that is was set into that adds 1.75" all around the rim. One tiny fleabite to lower left corner. not visible when in frame. Summitville Tile Company by Don Schreckengost Art Pottery Zodiac Tile This art deco ceramic sculpture was designed by Don Schreckengost and made by The Summitville Tile Company. The tile measures 6 and 1/4 inches wide by 6 and 1/4 inches tall and has extreme relief; it is over 2 inches thick in areas. It is mounted on its original wood backing. The overall size of the tile mounted on the wood is 8 inches wide by 8 inches tall. The tile is glazed in a stunning black metallic glaze. There is keyhole cut on the back of the wood that allows the tile to be hung on the wall. There is also a paper label on the back explaining the traits of the zodiac sign of Aries RAM. This tile is very heavy 3lbs. According to The Sebring Historical Society: Don graduated with honors from the Cleveland Art Institute. Then studied abroad in Stockholm Sweden. This is a beautiful antique majolica Art Nouveau floral art pottery tile or plaque. I believe it dates circa 1890s to 1910s. It measures 17 1/4 inches x 7 1/8 inches(43.8 cm x 18.1 cm) It is 7/8 inches thick(2.2 cm) The colors in this tile/plaque are just lovely. The painting of the glaze is very artistically done. It's as if the flowers and leaves are dancing on it. It shows crazing all over. Which is common given its age. There are various small chips around the edges. And one large one measuring approximately 1 inch x 3/4 inch(2.5 cm x 1.9 cm) There are three spots where it became discolored and the glaze has turned whitish for some reason(please see photos) It's fairly heavy at a little over 7 lbs. 3 oz. 3.27 kg) Overall. This beautiful tile uses the Emaux Obrants method of tile production to pick out the relief design of a German Wild Man/ Savage as part of what looks to be a family crest in a purple majolica glaze. Treu Und Wahr' is written within the scroll work at the bottom of the plaque. Meaning'Loyalty and Truth' the motto of the family. The reverse of the tile reveals a little more of its history. With'Familie N.Versammlung 1905 Otto Fr. Ahlmann' imprinted into the back- this confirms that this was the Family Crest for Otto Fr(ederick) Ahlmann and created in 1905. VERY RARE Victorian pictorial tile / plaque National School Hunslet Leeds, 1843
EXTREMELY SCARCE large original early Victorian pictorial tile depicting the National School. Hunslet 1843(Leeds, Yorkshire) The tile also has the name of Victorian architect Robert Dennis Chantrell(1793-1872) who designed many churches& public buildings in West Yorkshire in the Classic& Gothic styles. This large feature tile was probably fitted originally in a washstand splash-back or perhaps a tea-pot stand- it is glazed to the back without any evidence of glue etc. so has never been affixed to a wall. It is approximately double the size of a regular tile and measures 8.5 inch x 5.5 inch. It has one very old hairline from the right edge but this is stable and doesn't compromise a great item or affect it visually.
