Maker unknown. Each tile is printed in brown with an image covering the whole tile surface with large flowers and associated foliage. There is a diagonal design depicting abstract floral shapes& leaves with linear borders. The tiles have been hand finished in pinks. Greens and yellow. Information as to age and wood type given when I purchased several years ago but if otherwise please note there is no intention to mislead ~ V intage and antique items generally show wear commensurate with age but I will endeavour to point out any major flaws if any ~ please see'Condition Description' above) Other than mentioned in'Condition Description' above this is a superb set of 4 mahogany(or so I am told) carved wall tiles/panels and that they date to around 1850. Scrolling rococo design on a finely stippled ground set within a central raised square border ~ two facing one way the other two being mirrored. Outer edge slightly sloping downwards with envelope style corners. Would look lovely used as additional decoration to wood panelling or simply on ... morethe wall just as they are. Tiles approx. 6" I read that you may be able to find more information on the tiles on page 212 of Collecting Victorian Tiles but have not seen it first hand. Condition shown. Set 4 Antique Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Art Deco Geometric Mosaic Ceramic Tiles
For your consideration is this group of 4 art deco tiles by Villeroy& Boch of Mettlach. Germany. They feature a unique incised mosaic geometric pattern that requires all 4 tiles to complete. Each one measures about 6 5/8" square and about 5/8" thick. The group of 4 then measures about 13 1/4" square. Each tile is signed on the back, impressed in the clay. My guess is these were likely floor tile and probably date to the 1920's or 30's. They do show some minor wear from normal use as you could imagine, but nothing that detracts from the overall impact of the strong geometric pattern. Each one also retains varying amounts of mortar residue on the back. A nice group of hard to find tile, ready to frame and hang on the wall or use as a medallion in that tile project or whatever you might have in mind. Copeland and Garrett made tiles between 1833 and 1847. The tiles are intended for floor or wall use but could be used for a variety of purposes. The tiles have a what I believe to be a letter M but this may be just a stylised design. The tiles are in reasonable condition for their vintage bu t there are some small chips to the edges both to fronts and undersides and some small pit marks to the surface. There is also cement residue to the underside of each as shown but this could be carefully removed. However am selling them in original untouched ... morecondition.
