Rare Henry Richards Tubelined "Bug" tile Art Nouveau, c1907, Great condition!
This is a superb tubelined tile from the Henry Richards Tile Co with a most unusual and beautiful"bug" design. The tile has had an easy life and is in excellent condition with just a small(5mm) chip towards the bottom righthand corner(see image) There are no cracks. No stains, no rubbed highlights, and only a little age-related crazing without which this would look like a modern copy! It is however the real thing as will be evident from the back- this shows that the tile had been mounted on card using an animal based glue, typical of installation in a washstand or other piece of furniture, hence its superb condition. Rare Antique Iridescent Seljuk Star Tile Central Asia Islamic Ceramic Turkik Art
Anatolia to Central Asia. 11th- 13th Century I.Iridescent Seljuk Star Tile 1.The Sejuks ruled from Central Asia, through Iran, Iraq, Syria south to Mecca& eastern Anatolia, during the eleventh to twelfth centuries. Several dynasties of Turkish origin created unique Islamic art forms now referred to as Seljuk art. Amongst their achievements was production of cobalt blue& luster ware potteries. Characteristic amongst tiles were the“star” shaped tiles, as this in very early example. 1.In order to illustrate certain characteristics of the tile, the images have been“enhanced” with image contrasting tools to highlight the design& iridescence. 1.Characteristic 8-pointed star-shaped tile, utilizing cobalt-blue for the decoration and for the border elements. 1.Another way to show more details is to wet the surface of the tile, thus showing ... moremaking the surface more translucent and revealing more of the colors& the pasterns below the surface. 1.Although not very apparent, the tile is likely decorated with floral motifs executed in turquoise, cobalt-blue and luster glazing. 1.Size: ~ 20.3 cm(8" Stonepaste(fritware) White& clear glaze(with possible overglaze of luster designs) and under glaze in cobalt blue. 1.The tile varies slightly in thickness: ~ 11 mm(Note the turquoise glaze on sides) 1.This tile exhibits iridescence(the rainbow-like effect) when viewed at different angles& is determined by the angle of incidence of the source of light. It is caused by interference effects of light reflected from several layers of weathering glaze, the same sort of effect that you see in your soap bubbles. I am selling these tiles as a set because I do not wish to split them up- they look great together and there are enough of them to do something good with. They are by T& R Boote and date to 1905. They are standard 6 inch tiles. They are tube lined and it is difficult to see but the ground is a deep bottle green with surface iridescence. The condition is very good there are a few nibbles to the corners as can be seen in the photograph but basically they are excellent. I have a shop in SHrewsbury where you are welcome to view. Rare Antique Batchelder Advertising Promotional Art Pottery Tile
Just out of a local house is this Rare Batchelder tile. It advertises the tile company from Pasadena and Los Angeles California that was in production from 1909 to 1932. The tile measures 3 7/8 inches across at its widest. It has a soft matte blue green glaze. It is in very good condition with one small nick on the lower right corner area. See photos. The tile is pictured in The Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles Vol. 4 on page 49. Would make a nice addition to any collection. Guaranteed old and as described.

A rare original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 3" This lustrous and vibrant emerald green tile has three large. Raised, spear-like buds in an unusual khaki colour, with glorious little sky-blue forget-me-not flowers peeping through behind them. Virtually mint condition. When turned to a strong light source, the very slightest of surface rubbing is visible along the extreme upper and lower edges, and even less so to the high central points of two of the buds. Fine background crackle-crazing due to age. The rear is marked: A.M. ENGLAND' 6' and has a rectangular arrangement of 6 raised dots. This tile is from my own collection. Easily postable. A rare and unusual original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" This is the only tile I have seen in this design in over 15 years of collecting. It features deep French-blue to navy-blue flowers. Apple green spiralling stems and a ribbon-like band at the top. The main flower sits in a primrose-yellow heart-shaped cartouche surrounded by enfolding apple-green leaves. Very unusual. The background is a duck-egg blue colour. Virtually mint condition. I can find no faults at all. The lower corners were chamfered at the time of manufacture to fit furniture or a fireplace(the rear is so clean, it looks unused) There is broad, attractive crackle crazing due to age. Stunningly beautiful ART NOUVEAU RELIEF MOULDED 6" tile. Depicting stylized YELLOW AND RED DAFFODILS with luscious GREEN FOLIAGE. MANUFACTURED by MANSFIELD BROTHERS in early 1900's The design fills the tile, wonderful FLOWER HEADS and lovely use of HAND PAINTED colour glazes. This design can be found in 20TH CENTURY DECORATIVE BRITISH TILES J-W BY CHRIS BLANCHETT PAGE 345. It is shown on a page taken from the company's 1905 catalogue no. T 25. For some reason this company's tiles rarely come up, and there is little information about them available. Their designs however are fantastic and this is no exception! Condition is perfect! The nick to bottom edge is a manufacturing flaw and glazed over. Nothing to worry about. No chips rubs, scratches or cracks. FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: A PAIR(2) OF ANTIQUE ENCAUSTIC TILES PRODUCED BY VILLEROY& BOCH AT THEIR METTLACH FACTORY IN GERMANY. BOTH TILES ARE IN VERY GOOD TO VERY FINE CONDITION. THE BACKS OF THESE TILES ARE ENCRUSTED WITH OLD CONCRETE. THERE IS OLD GROUT STUCK TO THE EDGES. TILES WERE OBVIOUSLY CHIPPED OUT OF SOME STRUCTURE. POSSIBLE PART OF AN OLD FLOOR. VILLEROY BOCH METTLACH VII? IS STAMPED IN LARGE BLOCK LETTERING ON THE BACK OF BOTH TILES. A POSSIBILITY THAT MORE LETTERING IS OBSCURED BY THE CONCRETE SLAG CLINGING TO THESE TILES.
