It is rare to find single tiles of this type and quality and a matched pair is an exceptional find! Each tile depicts a"cameo" of a cherub with an ornate scrolled design in press molded high relief. The cherubs have wonderful detailed faces& hair. The tiles have a marvelous translucent tobacco brown glaze. The tiles are marked on the back"SHERWINS. PAT. LOCKBACK, ENGLAND. Sherwin and Cotton was established in 1877 in Hanley. Stafforshire, England and was a prolific manufacturer of all forms of tiles for walls and floors. They were makers of some of the earliest of George Cartlidge's photographic tiles and also had a range of Niello tiles which were transfer printed and coloured using translucent glazes. Another speciality was barbotine tiles, tiles made using raised painted slip decoration. The company folded in 1911. The tiles are saquare in shape and each measure approx. 6" by 6" by 3/8" These items are estate pieces and in excellent condition for their age. The tiles are original. There are no cracks or repairs. We have not polished/cleaned the pieces, we will leave this up to the new owner. We would remind bidders that these pieces are antique and pre-owned with wear consistent with their age, use and the manufacturing process, such as minor crazing and two chips on the edge of one of the tiles. VTG Belgium Delft Blue Tile Dimensions 4 3/4 X 4 3/4 inches For your consideration we offer a pair of original Belgium Delft blue tiles from the late forties. It was manufactured possibly by the factory of George Gilliot in Hemiksen/ Antwerp. Belgium, but decorated by hand in Holland. The factory was founded in 1897 by George Gilliot in Hemiksem. As floor and wall tile factory, with John Salt, a ceramic specialist trained at Sèvres, as technical director. At the turn of the 20th century, the firm saw rapid expansion with a working force reaching nine hundred personnel in 1913. The last tiles were produced there in 1978 and the company was closed down by Sphinx Maastricht in 1985( the information is taken from the website of the British Museum in London) Nicely glazed surface. The background on each tile is an antique creamy off-white and has delicate white scrollwork surrounding the oval lace design which showcases these flowers. These are original pieces and they have not been repaired or painted. I am not sure of the exact age of these pieces however I know they have been around for at least 20 years! They have a high-gloss glaze finish protecting the artwork. Antique Vintage Pink Tile-In Towel Bar Brackets Pair 1950's (#2)
Here is a pair of pink towel bar brackets that were removed from a 1950's-era bathroom. These are meant to be installed over the field tile(semi-flush) and not flush with it. One of the brackets has a chunk that has been epoxied back on(see pics) and the other has grout in the bar opening. There are some flea bites along the edges but they should all be covered when grouted. Note: the keys(anchor) were broken off during removal but have been epoxied back in place to aid in installation. Also. There is no bar included since it was simply painted wood; this way you can make it any size you want. Please see all photos for condition.
