Antique Majolica tile victorian aesthetic style sepia
Original early century tiles INTRODUCTION Attention the items you are bidding are ORIGINAL ca 1900 tiles. These tiles are part of the vast Victorian style spectrum. Tiles have not relief and have surface printed designs with naturalistic. Geometric images on them, colors are firm and well defined. These tiles are very suitable for a charming home interior decor, casual, romantic feel. English country style emphasizes coziness and our relationship with nature. These are the tiles to choose if you want an air of both distinction but also as fresh as a country cottage done in garden florals. ITEM DESCRIPTION Very attractive tile. Drawn in sepia transfer printed, subtile flowers and thorny tails, a perfect abstraction of a victorian garden. STYLE: Aesthetic(Late Victorian) TECHNIQUE: Manufacture: Dust pressed clay tile using a mould& horsehead ... morepress. Then burned. Decoration: surface printed designs. ORIGIN: England Either George Woolliscroft& Son or T&R Boote. MARKS: Each tile has a characteristic factory background some factories used stamped logos on reverse. DIMENSIONS: 6x6 inches each tile. Thickness of biscuit depends but usually is 0.33 inches aprox. APPROXIMATE DATE: Between 1890 to 1910 ITEM CONDITION This tile is in very fine condition. No flaws or repairs exist. Cement on reverse was carefully removed so minimal traces are remaining. Surface, as you can see, has a firm color and smooth glaze surface. Only minimal scratches and tiny chips may be seen, most of them on edges but that is hidden with grouting when reinstalling. Nothing for a more than 100 year old architectural piece. If you are buying many of them and you want a picture to have a look of the general condition no problem to supply. But image shown is well representative of tiles you will get. Interesting Antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement Brown & White Floral Print Tile
Up for auction is an attractive Victorian Aesthetic Movement floral printed brown& white tile. This tile is interesting in that it is an identified Mintons design. However it bears the maker's mark for Lea& Boulton. It is possible that both firm's produced the same design or that Mintons have used blank Lea& Boulton tiles to print their design on. This tile is printed with a lovely design in dark brown depicting a central diamond decorated with an urn filled with swirling flowers and foliage. The remaining tile surface is filled with swirls of flowers and stems against a speckled background surrounded by a simple white border and an external brown border. Antique Ceramic Tiles Aesthetic Style Brown on Cream background. Approximately 6" x 6" inches Square Condition None of the tiles are perfect.They all have crazing and some nibbles to edges. Tile 1 is quite good but has been damaged towards the right hand corner. Tile 2 has cracks on both left hand corners and is split but still looks good. Tile 3 has large piece missing from right hand and is stained on both left corners. Reverse of tiles have some mortar still attached. The tile measures 6 inch square and the back has the capital letter‘B‘ to one corner along with the printed‘AB053/1’ The tile has had its bottom two corners sightly reduced for securing screws when it was fitted to a washstand. Nice clean front and reasonably clean back. There is a shallow surface crack. Firing fault to the front but this does not run into the body of the tile. Additionally, slight loss to the back, otherwise very good condition.

I have for sale. A large collection of various antique tiles. I'll be listing them. In the order that they come to hand, over the coming weeks. I generally do my listings on a Sunday- there will be some particularly interesting ones, in future weeks. Just a few in each lot. To stay within Post Office's"Small packet" limits, to keep postal costs down. This will also make it easier to wrap them safely for transit. I'll let the pictures do the description. Dating I believe to around the 1890's. The beautiful design features three circles that contain a bird. A flower and two fish. The rest of the tile is decorated with flowers and a"cracked ice" pattern. Unmarked base. 6 inches x 6 inches. Unpacked weight is 412g. Condition. Very good condition. Slight staining to bottom left hand corner. Some minor frits to edges. Two corners have small chips.
