Outstanding Pair of Furniture Fragments Carved Wooden Pegasus Horse Sculptures
I love it when something salvaged can live a new life as something else. These sculptures were adornments to the arms of a sofa. They make excellent bookends but why let your creativity stop there? The carving is extraordinarily animated exposing the nobility of these creatures. Alert ears(small chips here) arched neck and even the veins in the face are superb. This is an awesome. Majestic pair of corbels! I was sure at first glance they were carved wood, but upon close inspection, I noticed a resin type material under a chip. There are several small chips, but they can be touched up. The hardware is intact, and they are quite heavy. They have what looks like a feather design, along with leaves. This is an antique pair of carved. Gilt ogee shelves or corbels. These shelves/corbels were found at the estate of a world traveler. They are very heavy, likely 5-7lbs each. The primary wood appears to be black walnut with a secondary wood of oak. This pair shows some minor chipping showing a base gesso covered by a reddish color and then gold coloration. These have some good age to them, and do have some old evidence of worms(not active) They measure 13" long by 5 1/2" high. by 6 3/4" deep. The actual tops are 11 1/2" long by 6" deep. Two Antique Completely Hand Carved Corbels. from the Pacific Islands. extremely old. from the estate of a lady that spent many years in the Philliphines. and collected and brought back to the US Antiques. there appears to be no finish on these unique corbels. and they show all the signs of extreme age and use. most likely from a Temple of some sort or an estate home. they measure 26 inches along the front and 10 1/2 inches along the back. they are 6 inches wide and 8 1/2 inches deep at the top and go down to nothing at the bottom. One of the Corbels is slightly larger than the other. it appears they were made to fit on the spot when the original building was put together. Graceful lines. Flowers and swans adorn these mid-19 th century corbel shelves. We think they are plaster. But they could be chalk. They are very nicely carved, very heavy, and very dirty. The shelves are about 7.5" high. 7.75" wide, and 4.5" deep. There is a hanging hook on the back of each one. They are in very good vintage condition. One of them had a little red something on it. We rubbed it very lightly with a wet towel, and most of it came off, so we think it will clean completely. Great for your next project. Finish isn't perfect but most is present and with a little work these will come up nicely without having to loose its original color. Selling this pair with no reserve, can easily be restored or used like this. 2 3/4 inches wide and 4 1/2 inches tall. 2 1/2 inches deep at top. These are so old that the glue is so dried that pieces sometimes just fall off randomly. I will wrap these very well. WOW! THESE ARE AWESOME! OFFERED IS A LARGE PAIR OF HAND CARVED WOOD WALL BRACKETS THAT HAVE BEEN COVERED IN WHAT I AM GUESSING IS TIN. THEY MEASURE 16 1/2" TALL BY 16 1/2" WIDE BY 6" DEEP AND WEIGH IN AT 11 1/2 POUNDS EACH. THEY ARE VERY NICELY DONE. AND ADD QUITE A CONTEMPORARY FEEL TO A VERY TRADITIONAL DESIGN. PAIR Antique Carved Brackets Corbels from The Singer Mansion Pittsburgh, PA
Andreas ~ Auctions Welcome* For your consideration is this pair of ornate. And beautifully hand carved wood brackets/corbels. They measure approximately 21" in length, 3" wide at the top and 9" deep. There are some areas of loss to the carving to each side of one bracket as shown in the photos. If you review the photos you can see that there is an unfinished edge to one side of each bracket. This might be where they were cut to remove them from the home. After removal they were used as a wall shelf with a long piece of glass on top of the brackets. The top of the brackets is covered with velvet fabric. Recently purchased from a local estate the owner said that they were from the Singer mansion in Pittsburgh. PA. I can not prove or disprove this statement. I have tried to do some research on the mansion and here is what I could ... morefind: John F. Singer was a partner with Alexander Nimick in Singer-Nimick& Co. Iron manufacturers. The house was completed in 1869 at a reported cost of $65,000. Originally part of a large country estate in the small village of Wilkinsburg(now included within the Pittsburgh city limits) the house and chapel stand alone at the center of a residential area bordering on an urban commercial district. Occupied by the Singer family until the early 1880's. The house stood vacant for a time before being used as a bachelors' club, known as Dixon Manor. In the 1920s it was purchased and split into a two family apartment. The house. Completed in 1869, was known as'the most pretentious and elegantly appointed as well as exquisitely furnished individual dwelling within the borough limits. Workmen were brought from England to do the wood and marble work. Special marble- a different color for each room- was imported from various countries. Also imported were the crystal, porcelain and brass chandeliers, which still remain in the house.
