Vol II. Boston: Isaiah Thomas and Ebenezer T. Andrews 1796. Bound in original leather in amazing shape. Exterior shining and like new, title label bright and clean. Great shape. Larger 4to sized. Pages with a few creases, some browning, slight foxing and edgewear in places. Joints split but hinges intact. Unmarked lest for one signature on rear of map and on first EP by Jonathan Templin, Phialdelphia, 1800. Pages otherwise are in nice shape. Second edition of volume II which includes 9 of 10 maps of Europe and the rest of the world. Present are Europe. Poland(small corner missing) Switzerland, Netherlands, France(piece missing) Asia, Palestine, Hindostan(India) and a damaged Africa(torn in half, both halves present) Missing England. Extremely rare and valuable nonetheless. Good luck!

Beautifully detailed maps by ERNEST DUDLEY CHASE of Winchester Massachusetts USA printed in"1942" It is a 2(double) sided map and measures 36" wide x 16" long, as you can see by a couple of the pictures that there is some wear on some of the some of the folds but overall in good shape. There is so much going on in these maps with pictures of the army, navy, marines and airforce.pictures of boats, ships, tanks, artillery, guns, aircraft and of patches, metals and badges all around the edges and everything has lots of descriptions. Sir John Lowther was a captain and commander during the Scottish border wars and was also the High Sheriff 1516,1543,1551 additionally he was the commander of Carlisle Castle and he lived from 1487-1551 this is a rare find. Last but not least we have 2 1598 handwritten vellum letters there aren't words to describe these extremely old hand written letters they are readable and clear one is dated the other is not. The ink is in great condition and there is no bleeding through simply a must see. Again I will say these are all very very old every one of these pieces have some damage to the outer edges as expected for their age. There are discolorations as well as small spots and original creasing. These are sold as-is no returns because of the delicate nature of these 200-400 year old vellum and early paper maps. QUEENSLAND, AND VICTORIA FULL COLOR MAPS. These maps are from a very rare 1892 atlas entitled"Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World, Indexed" published by S. L. Bradley, 415 Dearborn Street, Chicago. This is a Grand New Census and World's Fair Edition. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has New South Wales(scale of 1 inch equals about 50 miles) on one side and a map of Queensland(scale of 1 inch equals about 100 miles) on half the flip side and a map of the Victoria(scale of 1 inch equals about 55 miles) on the other half of the flip side. Pages are large, being either 14 1/2" x 10 3/4" or 11 5/8 x 14 1/2" with viewing ... morearea being approximately 12” x 9” a little more or a little less) on most of the maps. Each map has at least one edge that is not 100% razor straight where it was taken out of the binding mounted in the atlas. The larger pages have tiny perforations(see picture) along the binding edge where it was bound with cord. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or tiny pieces of corners missing. See individual pictures. These pages have light smudges in the margins; and the New South Wales map has a rusty line about 1 1/2 inches long in a margin. Every map has an atlas page number in one margin. The North American Continent& California. In 1601, California is shown as the fabled land of the West. Here Ortelius seems to have relied on Francisco Lopez de Gamara's popular Historia general de las Indias(1552) In his book. Lopez de Gamara mentions that Coronado had reported that the wealthy kingdom of Quivira was located at 40 degrees latitude. Since Coronado also reported that he had reached the sea, cartographers interpreted this to mean that Quivira must be located near the West coast. Quivira and Cíbola are two of the fantastic Seven Cities of Gold, that springs from the Moorish invasions. According to legend, seven bishops fled the invasion, to save their own lives and to prevent the Muslims from obtaining sacred religious relics. A rumor grew that the seven bishops had founded the cities of Cíbola and Quivira. The legend says that these cities grew very rich, mainly from gold and precious stones. 1768 Anders Åkerman-Fredrik Akrel World Atlas 30 Maps Pre-Cook Cartography RARE!
Atlas Juvenilis eller Geographiska Chartor Oblong Quarto. 30 copperplate engraved maps, 20 cm x 16 cm sheet size, original hand colour, Johann Edmann. Uppsala, 1768, 2 added maps 1789& 1796) We are pleased to offer this example of a world atlas by Swedish engraver and cartographer Anders Åkerman(1723-1778) featuring 30 finely engraved miniature maps. Åkerman was based in Uppsala. And is known as the"Father of Swedish Globemaking" for his production of terrestrial and celestial globes although he also produced atlases and nautical charts. Examples of his are found in the Royal Academy of Science in Stockholm. And an impressive armillary sphere made by Åkerman can be viewed from an Italian museum collection in Milan. Interestingly. The atlas has two maps that have been inserted to replace Åkerman's original ... moreplates- a map of France by the eccentric Uppsala geographer Daniel Djurberg(1744-1834) dated 1796 and the map of Sweden dated 1789 by Åkerman's partner in map and globe production Fredrik Akrel(1748-1804) Akrel took over the business after Åkerman's death in 1778 and is believed to have reissued this 1768 atlas with these two"updated" maps around 1798 in hopes of getting some more mileage off the then 30-year-old plates. The atlas has in the front endpapers the signature of Jonas Frisk(1787-1849) and the date of 21 August 1799 when he would have been 12 years old- Frisk went on to build a very successful business in Stockholm as a furniture dealer and mirror manufacturer. It also bears the signature of another Jonas Frisk and the date 1873. Presumably a grandson, as well as a"Rusti Rasti" Strength in Justice) bookplate with an undecipherable signature. The back endpapers have a meticulously recorded manuscript list of world city populations from Nanking at#1 with 1,500,000 to Königsberg at#49 with 70,000 residents. EGYPT, ARABIA, UPPER NUBIA AND ABYSSINIA FULL COLOR MAPS. These maps are from a very rare 1892 atlas entitled"Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World, Indexed" published by S. L. Bradley, 415 Dearborn Street, Chicago. This is a Grand New Census and World's Fair Edition. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has India(scale of 1 inch equals about 155 miles) on one side and a map of Egypt, Arabia, Upper Nubia and Abyssinia(scale of 1 inch equals about 132 miles) on the flip side. Pages are large, being either 14 1/2" x 10 3/4" or 11 5/8 x 14 1/2" with viewing area being approximately 12” x 9” a little more or a little less) on most ... moreof the maps. Each map has at least one edge that is not 100% razor straight where it was taken out of the binding mounted in the atlas. The larger pages have tiny perforations(see picture) along the binding edge where it was bound with cord. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or tiny pieces of corners missing. See individual pictures. This map has some very light smudges in the margins. Every map has an atlas page number in one margin. What appears to be a lighter area on the map is from camera flash. According to Worldcat.org only one other 1890 enlarged business atlas exists and it is held at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. PERU, CHILE, ARGENTINE CONFEDERATION AND URUGUAY FULL COLOR MAPS. These maps are from a very rare 1892 atlas entitled"Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World, Indexed" published by S. L. Bradley, 415 Dearborn Street, Chicago. This is a Grand New Census and World's Fair Edition. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has 4 full pages; center 2 pages are Chile, Argentine Confederation and Uruguay(scale 1 inch equals about 108 miles) On the flip side of one page is Peru(no scale given) and on the flip side of the other page is Cuba and the Bahama Islands(scale 1 inch equals about 95 miles) Pages are large, being either 14 1/2" x 10 ... more3/4" or 11 5/8 x 14 1/2" with viewing area being approximately 12” x 9” a little more or a little less) on most of the maps. Each map has at least one edge that is not 100% razor straight where it was taken out of the binding mounted in the atlas. The larger pages have tiny perforations(see picture) along the binding edge where it was bound with cord. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or tiny pieces of corners missing. See individual pictures. These pages have some smudges and rust spots, mostly in the margins; except the Peru side has some rusty areas mostly in the ocean area. Every map has an atlas page number in one margin. What appears to be a lighter area on the map is from camera flash. Please contact seller if you have any questions or need a more detailed description of a particular map. As well as being nicely colored- unfortunately, the low-resolution scans cause the colors to be a bit"off" and the details to be a bit blurred. Each is drawn on waxed cloth sheet(16.5" x 16" in pen and ink with some plots in color. Each map is identified by Township and range. With many owners named, but none are dated. The maps cover Township 15 Range 1-4 East and West to Township 19 to show Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and Northwest Olympia. The 12 acres donated to the state in 1853 by Edmund Sylvester for the Capitol are left blank. Capital Lake does not exist, and is still shown as part of Budd Inlet. The map locates numerous inlets of Puget Sound including Budd, Henderson, Totten, and Eld, and Hope Island. Shows the ... moreextent of the large Terryett Prairie and a large unsurveyed area northwest of Black River. Delineates the rivers and creeks and many lakes including Black, Crooked, Patterson's, Long and Clear. The lands of Native Americans are noted. Loose in the back of the atlas are numerous manuscript field survey drawings. One of these maps is centered on Bigelow Lake and is signed C.O. Mannes. Civil Engineer Olympia, Mar 25th 1919. Plus a lithographed map of downtown Olympia noting the proposed rail depot. And a proposed dock at the end of Main Street. Wide folio, hardbound half leather and brown cloth. The loose maps are rough on the edges. The maps in the atlas are very good. Binding is very rough, spine cap is missing. Accompanied by another folio volume that is a ledger of property/land transactions in records for Olympia dated 1892- 1910. The pages. Which must number at least 150, are unnumbered but are completely filled with entries. Important names and business are mentioned including attorney and developer O.C. Up for auction is a rare FIRST EDITION account of a gold miners rocky journey to California in 1849. Entitled ON THE ARKANSAS ROUTE TO CALIFORNIA in 1849: The Journal of Robert B. Green of Lewisburg. Pennsylvania. Published by the Bucknell University Press in Lewisburg. Pennsylvania in 1955. 87 pages. Edited by J. Orin Oliphant, Professor of History, Bucknell University. An absolutely gripping account of the journey of team of 49ers who set out from their town to try to strike it rich in California. The most noteworthy aspect of Greens diary is that it recounts a rare journey; most 49ers took the Missouri Route, over the Rockies via Salt Lake City, whereas this particular group fell prey to promotional literature that advertised the advantages of the southern route through Santa Fe. By the end of the journey, both Green and his companion, ... moreChamberlain, who published letters about the trip back East, regretted their decision. Green himself reached San Francisco, and died of dysentery in late December of 1849. This is the first printing of this rare account. Green recounts the teams arrival in Los Angeles, and then their tiring trip north; his is a sad account, as he tells stories such as of a man who blows his hand off in a gun accident, and how he laments most of all the loss of the handle of his tin cup. Book bound in black cloth spine over tan cloth boards. Endpaper map showing the route of the Lewisburg Party, which runs across what is today the states of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Scale on New Hampshire/Vermont side is 1 inch equals about 15 miles. Each map has one edge that is not 100% razor straight where it was taken out of the binding mounted in the atlas. This map page is from an extremely rare 1895 Rand. McNally& Co.s New General Atlas with Marginal Index. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map page has Maine on one side and New Hampshire on the flip side. Scale on Maine map is 1 inch equals about 27 miles; on New Hampshire map is 1 inch equals about 15 miles. These maps have indexes in two margins, listing each state, its population, area in square miles, capital city and population of the capital city in 1895. Maps show latitude and longitude lines. Pages are large- about 14 inches by 11 ¾ inches. Some of the pages have kind of ragged edges but only outside the margins ... morewhich does not affect the viewing area. See pictures. This page has one dog-eared corner and one small chunk missing from the bottom margin, as well as a couple of tears in the bottom margin. See each individual page’s description for detail. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Also edges are no longer razor sharp. See individual pictures. Every map has a page number in one margin. What appears to be a lighter area on the maps is from camera flash. Please contact seller if you have any questions or need a more detailed description of a particular map. Maps of Continents, Grand Divisions, Islands, Oceans and all Foreign Countries” published by John W. Iliff& Company, 350-352 Wabash Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. Maps are large, pages being 14 1/2" x 11 3/4” with viewing area being approximately 11 3/4 x 9 1/2” on most of the maps. Most of the United States maps have ... moreone state on one side and another state on the flip side. Check each state’s map description to see what you are getting. Maps are full color with each county in different colors- very attractive and interesting! Most state maps have indexes listing counties and chief cities. This map has New Hampshire and Vermont on one side and Massachusetts and Rhode Island on the flip side. Scale on New Hampshire and Vermont map is 1 inch equals about 15 miles. Scale on Massachusetts and Rhode Island map is 1 inch equals about 16 miles. Massachusetts map has an inset of the Boston area. Each map has one edge that is not 100% razor straight where it was taken out of the binding mounted in the atlas. Please see pictures. This map is from a very rare 1868 illustrated textbook entitled"National Geographical Series: Revised Edition, An Improved System of Geography Designed for Schools, Academies and Seminaries By Francis McNally” published by A. S. Barnes and Co. 111 and 113 William Street, New York. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has the Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island(with an inset of the vicinity of Boston) on one side and miscellaneous geography lessons or information on the flip side. Scale is 1 inch equals about 20 miles. Map shows latitude and longitude lines. Pages are about 11 7/8 inches by 9 ... more¾ inches. The pages have some age spots and almost all have small rectangles of paper missing from the margin where the pages were bound, but does not affect the viewing area. See pictures. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or small pieces of corners or margins missing.
