This piece was acquired from a private estate in the Saratoga/Los Gatos area of Northern California in the mid 1960's and has been displayed in a private home since then. The framed size is 19.25" W x 24.5" H. With the unmatted map being 11" W x 16" H. The map is hand colored and believed to be done so by the original artist, Levasseur. A visually stunning decorative map of Corsica(La Corse) dating back to 1850. By French map publisher Victor Levasseur. Levasseur published several different editions of his Corsica map but this is believed to be the first. For sale a very large and rare Levasseur World. France and Colonies atlas complete with 101 maps plus title page dated 1861. The atlas has its original red binding, all maps colored at the period. All maps depicts France departments. Colonies and continents. Particularity the map of the United States still shows Texas as a Republic with distinct color used for Texas. The atlas is heavy around 10 to 12 pounds and measures 20.5 x 15 inches a large folio. All maps in original period colors printed in heavy thick papers with minor browning on the edge due to age. The atlas starts with a beautiful title page. Then comes all maps of France departments with beautiful décor and cartouches on each maps then comes the continents maps and the world map.
