Great world map. 50" X 36" George Franklin Cram was a civil war veteran who marched with Sherman prior to his career as a map publisher. On March 18. 1867, George F. Cram and his uncle, Rufus Blanchard, founded the company Blanchard& Cram in Evanston, IL. The company manufactured and sold maps and atlases. Cram became the sole owner two years later and renamed it the George F. Cram Co. The company sold a wide variety of atlases, including the popular Unrivaled Atlas of the World, which was printed continuously from the 1880’s to 1952. In 1921. Cram sold his business to one of his largest customers, E.A. Peterson of the National Map Company. The companies were combined at 32 E. Georgia St. in Indianapolis. The Cram name survived the merger. On March 24, 1928, George F. Cram died at the age of 86. In 1932. The George F. Cram Company ... morebegan manufacturing globes. In 1936, the company moved again to 730 E. Washington St. That location is currently the Marion County Jail. Loren B. Douthit joined the company in 1937 as a School Sales Field Manager to develop the potential of the school market. Between 1937 and 1966. Cram developed a variety of educational maps and globes including the most usable globe in the classroom, Horizon Ring Globe. Loren Douthit became President and majority shareholder of the company in 1966. In March of 1968. Cram moved again to 301 S. LaSalle St. where it remained for 38 years. Loren Douthit retired in 1978, passing the torch to his two sons. William Douthit became President and John Douthit became Vice-President. Here is a nice old Cram's Markable-Kleenable roll down school map. It is an Outline map of the world with no identification of the countries. I'm not sure how old it is. But I'd guess it to be from the 1960s or so. I've included lots of pics so that you can get a really good look at it. I forgot to get the measurements of it prior to packaging it up, but I'd estimate the map area to be approximately 48" wide x 38" tall(not including the brown area at the bottom or the white area above the map) It is a No. CSU-8 map and also has a number C768 at the bottom. The roller and mount bracket are included. The spring loaded roller is a bit finnicky to operate but if you give the map a few quick jerks, it will eventually roll up properly. Vintage 1914 School Pulldown Wall Map-World Eastern Hemisphere-W & A K Johnston
Here for sale is a vintage map published by W& A K Johnston in 1914 as part of the Popular Edition Series. It came with several similar maps from the"Unrivaled Series" of 1914 published by Johnston. I obtained this map and 6 other maps from a collection of maps used in a one room school in Welch. Minnesota. The maps had a slight odor of age which has improved substantially since I took them out of their holder. The map measures about 38 by 48 inches. And has rollers on each end. The map has condition issues as shown in the photo. Including tearing and scraping, mostly along the bottom, and along the extreme edges. There are some small tears in the map too. Map has some staining or darkening, again mostly along the bottom, and could use a cleaning. Please see the photos to observe condition. The colors on most of the map are ... morenice, and so some restoration would be helpful. I will be happy to combine shipping upon multiple purchases.

It has details about their native countries and their travel routes of discovery. The bottom half of the map covers all the European explorers and the top half is about only the spanish expeditions. The map is large at 43 1/2 inches wide by 75 inches long. It is the vintage canvas type map and rolls up like a window blind. The map has not been abused and is not torn. It shows some wear here and there but over all looks good. It does have some musty odor from being rolled up for decades. Thanks for looking.

WWII-era vintage c1939 Weber Costello 8" Terrestrial School Globe World Map
Description I believe this globe is from the early WWII era. Possibly around 1939. This is my best guess as not everything on the map is consistent with a specific era. Reasons I believe this is from circ 1939 are listed below: Irish Free State(become Ireland in 1937) Italian East Africa(established in 1936) Manchukuo(renamed by Japan when they seized control of Manchuria from1931-1945) Taiwan as a territory of Japan(occupation by Japan ended with their surrender to the USN in 1945) There is no Israel or Lebanon(established 1948 and 1943 respectively) Poland(not yet shown as part of Germany when it was invaded in 1939 until Allied victory in 1945) The school globe is covered with 12 individual paper gores and has a diameter of 8" and a total height of 11" The meridian is made of metal. The globe has definitely seen better days but ... morestill a good-looking globe. Some separation of the paper gores and cracks throughout. As well as the expected scuffing and paper wear consistent with its age and former use as a school teaching aid. The bottom has been taped but I'm not sure what the reason for taping it was(see picture) Note Actual color may differ from the photo due to lighting conditions.
