Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are anywhere from 30 to 80 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. The map opens to a generous 23" x 44" and it depicts the world on an azimuthal equal-area projection. Solid red lines on the map show domestic and international airways then in service. As you may see in the scans below: The only transatlantic flights then in operation were between South America and Europe via Africa. When this map was printed. The North Atlantic still presented challenges for aviators due to weather and the huge distances involved, coupled with the lack of stopping points. Early transatlantic services, consequently, focused more on the South Atlantic, where the map shows two routes. It also shows one route across the Pacific, with stops ... moreat Honolulu, Midway, Wake, Guam, and Manila. The map also shows principal railroad lines. This is a 1967 Denoyer Geppert World Physical and Political Map. The map section measures 63" wide by 40" tall. The spring loaded roll up bar is there but not the frame that holds it. This map has just awesome vintage color. There are plenty of small holes and wrinkles but they have been clear taped over and the map still displays fantastic. Look at the pictures closely and you will see the major flaws. I want to be honest and say that if you are looking for a collectors grade map this ain't it. But this is a really bright. Highly colorful, map that shows great and would make a great wall decoration, Thanks for looking.

I RECENTLY OBTAINED A FEW OLD RETRACTABLE WALL MAPS OUT OF A RURAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ILLINOIS THAT CLOSED DUE TO CONSOLIDATIONS- I TOOK THEM RIGHT OFF THE WALL RIGHT AFTER THE AUCTIONEER SCREAMED SOLD! I PURCHASED BOTH UNITED STATES MAPS AND WORLD MAPS- AND AM NOW LISTING THE FINAL TWO SO DON'T LOSE OUT! THIS ONE IS A"WORLD POLITICAL" MAP- IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. NO RIPS/TEARS, SIDE EDGES HAVE NO WEAR TO THEM. IS STILL MOUNTED ON THE METAL HANGING ROD AND HAS A FULL LENGTH WOOD DOWEL ACROSS THE BOTTOM THAT IS TIGHTLY FASTENED TO THE MAP. THIS MAP HAS EXCELLENT RETRACTION- VERY STRONG. THERE IS A SMALL"INSTRUCTION LABEL" NOTATION FASTENED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE MAP FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE. This world map is Model No. 840-50"CONCEPT MAP" showing both" Physical- Political" information and according to the sticker on the back it was produced June 28. 2001 by Modern Educational Systems Inc. Goshen, Indiana. The Scale is 1: 27 million at the equator and 1: 54 million at the North and South Poles. The Physical and Political Map Key is located in the lower right corner and includes Primary Physical. Secondary Physical( Western Deserts and Plateaus) Other Physical(Rivers, Seas and Islands, Nations. Nation's Capitals. Major Urban Centers, Other Urban areas, International Boundaries, and Canals. The map key in the lower left corner is color coded to provide information on Elevations and Sea Depth including High Areas. Mountains, Highlands, Hill ... moreLands, Low Lands and Depressions. Sea Level and Land features including Deserts, Wet Lands and Tundra Ice are also color coded on this key. In addition to the central World Map of Continents and Oceans. Two smaller maps located along the bottom show details of the areas surrounding the North Pole and South Pole. The map is 58 1/2 inches wide and 41 to 28 inches long depending on where the measurement is taken. The map's surface is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Its colors are bright and all labels are easily read with no fading, no stains, no discoloration, no pen or marker residue and I cannot detect any smoke or other odors. The only very minor imperfection are a small thumb tack holes along the edges, a result of previous display and, a 2 inch long, cut, at the low point along the top of the map. Please see the accompanying pictures. This is a smooth cut in the map and is along the border of the British Isles. This small area could easily be repaired and while it does not impact the overall quality information provided on the map, I did want bidders to be aware of it and that this map is BEING SOLD AS IS and that RETURNS ARE NOT ACCEPTED ON THIS AUCTION.
