The binding and pages are firmly held. There does not appear to be any writing on any of the pages. There is very little edge wear and very light tanning on the pages. The outside cover is faded and has blemishes(front and back) see photos. A couple of the corners are bent in. But overall it's a pretty tight binding. It measures approximately 15 1/2" x 11" and is a faded, pale green with black lettering. Bonus: There is also a separate fold-out map showing parcel post zones. Express zones and the federal reserve bank districts. This map is very fragile and does have a couple of rips(see photo) A fascinating piece of history that is 100 years old! Could make a nice addition to any collector! We are not professional graders or experts in books so please study the photos carefully and feel free to request any additional photos. Antique Crams World Atlas 1889 with all maps intact
The cover on this atlas is rough and two pages in the front have had some of the flags removed.Pages,5,6,7,8 have parts missing.The only other damage on the inside is a tear on the page edge of the map of New Jersey but as fas as I can see all the other maps are intact.It measures 12" X 15" and has 268 pages. This oversized book includes a world atlas with colored maps of the country lines at that point in time. It also includes state maps of the U.S. for states that had reached statehood at that time(so no Oklahoma. New Mexico, Arizona, Hawaii or Alaska) There is a complete Census from 1900. Many color illustrations and black and white illustrations. Not sure what normal wear would be for a book of this condition. It is a revised edition illustrating the new boundaries and territorial changes effected by the Peace Treaties from World War One. The book measures 14" x 10 ¾" It has a red cloth covered hardcover, with black lettering. There are 40 plain backed maps. Which would be suitable for framing if required, plus a 32 page index to place names. The maps are printed on a high quality smooth paper. But the index pages and endpapers are a softer and thicker type of paper. The map pages are in GOOD CONDITION. With only slight signs of general ageing and no tears or marks, apart from Map 1(The World) which has a tiny burn mark(see photo below) The endpapers have light foxing and a few small edge chips. The hard cover is slightly worn on the inner binding. There is some corner wear and a small split at the bottom corner of the spine. Original Print Details Cedid Atlas Tercümesi"The New Great Atlas" 1803 This is an extremely rare atlas that has some very intersting maps. The New Great Atlas[Cedid atlas tercümesi] was the first Islamic world atlas to be based in the European style. Printed in Istanbul in the year 1803 by the Ottoman Military Engineering School[Tab'hane-yi Hümayun] and was bound with Mahmud Raif Efendis geographic study on the maps entitled Ucaletü'l-cografiyye. The maps themselves were based ... moreon William Fadens[1749-1836] plates for his General atlas. First printed in London, 1797. Mahmud Raif Efendi composed his eighty page commentary in French while the private secretary to the Ottomon ambassador in London. The commentary was then translated into Turkish. The atlas was part of Sultan Selim IIIs"Nizam-i cedid" or New order] Which was an attempt to incorporate European knowledge and administration in to the Ottoman system. The place names on the maps are transliterated into the Arabic script and all of the Christian symbols have been erased. Only fifty copies of the New Great Atlas were printed of which very few remain. Antique 1892 Popular Atlas of the World Vintage Maps Mast Crowell & Kirkpatrick
Up for auction is an original"The Popular Atlas of the World" published in 1892 By Mast Crowell& Kirkpatrick from 927 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia Pa& Sprinfield Ohio. Atlas is filled with original old colorful maps. State historical data, Country historical data and statistics, Population data, etc. Condition is poor with the cover separated. Exterior spine missing, damage to some pages, and browning/toning to edges. Atlas does appear to be complete and is approx 220 pages- the vast majority of the pages are intact, but many of the first are separated from the spine. Maybe a candidate for restoration or for breaking up into separate maps. Any questions please feel free to ask. I will be listing a couple of others within the next few days. This atlas has maps of the United States. The World, North America, Texas, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and most of the world in 1861. Please see map list in the pictures. You can see maps showing the Gold regions in the United States. There are also table of population of the United States and its territories, and a Geographical& Statistical tables charts, and population of all the Counties in the United States, Agricaltural products and manufactures of cotton, ... moreiron, and wool, in the United States, by the census of 1850, also showing the rail roads and canals, and much more. Published by E.H. Butler& Company Philadelphia. Entered according to an act of Congress in the year 1852 by Augustus Mitchell. All maps have dates on them and the maps are dated from 1852 to 1858. The Atlas is 12 1/8" x 10" x 1/4" Condition: This Atlas is complete with all pages and Maps. The covers and hinges and spine are in very good condition, the covers have some staining and fading and corners bumps, and chips, as in normal wear for an Atlas from 1860. The spine is new aged leather, please see the pictures. The pages are bright and clear and in very good condition with almost no stains, foxing or spotting, just light tanning.
