Antique Map Iceland by Willem Bleau Hand Colored Copper Engraving 17th Century
Here is a beautiful antique map by Willem Bleau[Tabula Islandiae Auctore Georgio Carolo Flandro] From[Theatrum Orbis terrerum, sive, Atlas Novus] published by Willem and Johannes Blaeu, Amsterdam, hand-colored copper engraving on laid paper, mid 17th century. Fair condition, unframed, paper has some discoloration and chipping on the edges, as well as a couple small holes in the bottom border. There is also a 1" long slit in the paper on the right side stemming from where there is some chipping(it looks like someone started to make a crooked cut in this edge some time ago) Some pencil writing on the back. There is a 3/8" strip of old masking tape on the back that runs the length of the top of the map and 4" down each side. This tape was used to mount this map to the old matte. Measures 17" x 22 1/2" This is a double ... morepage engraving removed from a book so there is an impression/creases down the center where it was formerly bent within the pages of the book. This auction is for the actual item(s) as pictured. I find all of my items at estate sales. Antique stores, and flea markets. 1743 Map of Bavaria Centered on Munich - Homann Heirs Maps - copper engraving
1743 Map of Bavaria Here is an original 1743 engraving of the surrounding area of Munich Germany. It was published in Nuremburg. Germany by the Homann Heirs. Copper-engraving. Hand colored in wash and outlined. Its overall measurement is 24" wide by 21" high. I recently had this map appraised as authentic by Swann Galleries and its auction value is $600-$800. It is in very good condition with no restoration. Marks, tears or folds. Being from an atlas it has a center fold line which has no breaks or splits. There is light foxing which can be seen in the photos. I show the back side to see the paper condition as well as to help verify its authenticity. Note that the stain is an etch through of just the green color as a result of the chemical used for green during that era. Feel free to ask questions. From the best papers from the time he realized his brother Francis. The famous Universal Atlas. Divided into two volumes and contains 123 cards. Francesco Santini he published between 1776 and 1780. Subsequently, the branches etching of the cards were purchased in 1781 from the press Remondini Bassano reissued the atlas.
