This auction is for an original. Antique lithograph plate which has been rescued from a disbound copy of'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Date Published: Printed in 1885 by Bibliographisches Institut. Leipzig, Germany Print size: 11 3/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches The lithograph has a characteristic patina which is natural for vintage paper. But is in good condition considering it is nearly 130 years old. The plate was folded inside the book and has the original centrefold, although this central line is more visible on the scanned image than the actual print up for auction. Although a general impression of the print can be seen from the image, it doesn't really capture the true detail and color quality of the original. The originator of the print up for auction was Joseph Meyer(May 1796- June 1856) who published the respected German encyclopedia. ... moreMeyers Konversations-Lexikon. After some extensive research(w/o a guide on Victorian Napkin Ring unfortunately) I have to admit this particular early 20th century Silver Plated Napkin Ring is quite scarce. As you can see it features what looks like a native woman(with child on her back) An Emu and, of course, the napkin ring resting on a map of Australia with the provinces(states? New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Northern Territory, etc) stamped into the metal. Napkin ring has EPNS and 1610 etched above that on the underside. Measures about 3 5/8" tall X 4 1/2" X 3 5/8" and is in"as found" condition-NOT polished with tarnishing, no engraving, slightly loose screw, and a little"wave" in the base edge near the emu.
