This is a double page from the Long's Classical Atlas published in 1856. Here is page 7 having a map of Spain or Hispania as it was referred to in ancient times. The map shows Spain starting from the north at its border with Gallia(France) and continuing to the south to the straights of Hercules(today Gibraltar) This map was taken out of a damaged copy of the Long's Classical Atlas(see the last three photos) Which is not part of this sale. Of additional interest is the illustration of a waywiser in the cartouche- the measuring tool used by Ogilby's men for the survey of the roads. An attractive map on heavy paper. Published in the International Atlas and Geography. A nice feature of this atlas is that the maps were individually bound along their long edge. Resulting in large maps without a centrefold. This map measures approx 30cm x 40cm excluding margins. Condition is very good. A strong impression that remains clean and bright with attractive printed colour. One or two specks and marks but very minor. The margins are lightly toned and the left margin is creased and a bit raggedy where originally bound. Verso completely blank and clean; a few foxing spots. A high quality. Double-page map published in the 1900 Times Atlas. It measures 48cm x 37cm approx. Excluding plentiful margins. Heavy paper, vertical centrefold as issued. A general map of the region; inset showing Vienna and environs. Condition is very good. The printed area is bright. Clean and very fresh; the odd faint mark and speck, but very minor, and some faint spotting. Margins have some quite marked dust soiling bottom right and left, even more-so on the verso. Minor edge damage. Verso is blank except for the title; remnants of binding along the centrefold and the spotting is more visible. The map will be posed rolled in a posting tube. The original book was in poor condition and falling apart. Because it was scanned at high resolution. The document may be enlarged to over 400% for easy reading of each detail. At one point in this particular map's history it was owned by the Phillips Drilling Company of Butler PA. Four of the township maps are marked in color pencil showing drilling leases as well as which oil companies owned the leases. A number of wells are shown as well as drilling permit numbers and how deep they found oil. These notations are dated 1936. Here are examples of actual content from the CD but at reduced definition for viewing. I am showing the most marked-up pages with the drilling information as well as the key to the color codes. Most of the township maps have very few marks except for notations in the margins about adjacent townships. Since roads ... morewere not numbered. Some of the routes are marked with a color pencil for the convenience of the drillers.

Smooth paper, They were'tipped in' to the atlas so it was easy to remove them without damaging them in any way. Condition The maps are in Near Fine condition. There are no marks. Tears, or blemishes at all. They seem to have almost never been touched by human hands. They are definitely NOT ex-library. The paper is crisp ... moreand white. This very attractive double page map sheet titled IDAHO and WYOMING is from the 1899 printing of The Century Atlas of the World. The map itself is dated 1897. The atlas was"Prepared under the superintendence of Benjamin E. Smith. A.M. and published by The Century Company, New York. The highly prized maps in this atlas were engraved by The Matthews-Northrup Company of Buffalo, NY. The maps from The Century Atlas are acknowledged to be among the finest of the late 19th century. Displaying plenty of sharp detail. Attractive colors, and good margins for framing. My photos really do not do this fine map justice! The page is about 12 1/2 by 17 inches in size. The reverse is blank. The map has a vertical center fold. As published. There is a fine inset map of Yellowstone National Park. Condition is very good with slight age toning at the edges ... moreand very minor damp staining at a couple of corners that intrudes less than 1/4 inch into the blank margin.
