Victorian aesthetic Green and white tile H R T Wheat sheaf Beaulah Bonhams
This is an interesting 6 inch Victorian aesthetic tile. It contains a wheat sheaf design. The tile is marked H R T Co England and then appears to have a small 3R mark and a 51 marked in the corner. It is in unused condition but has two chips to the bottom corners. This tile comes from the G K BEAULAH tiles sale at Bonhams on 25th January 1995. It has the original sticker for the sale on the front for lot no 212. On the rear. It has the Beaulah catalogue number: 1334. There is also a red sticker on the edge with a number 225. Ken Beaulah was author of Church Tiles of the C19th and a founder member of the Tiles and Architectural Ceramic Society. He began collecting whilst still at school in York. His collection of tiles was all meticulously accessioned. Photographed and documented in a two volume personal catalogue. He is an important figure ... morein the study of architectural tiles. Description These beautiful tiles were made by the Old Bridge company. One of the the premier Victorian-era tile makers. These are salvaged materials and have been used. Are old, and have imperfections. Dimensions 6" long. 3" wide and 1/2" thick Condition Good condition. Some grout or epoxy on the face of some but comes off easily with hot water and a toothpick. Some paint drips on others. Which easily will cove off with a razor and some gentle scraping. There may be small chips on some. Each tile is different. See pictures for details of condition. Pretty Green Majolica Ceramic Tile- Moulded- Victorian/Art Nouveau Style It has a moulded raised outline with ribbon. Bow, flowers and bells. Some colour has bled on the flowers. This very pretty tile has a clean back marked with a pressed 20. 15.2cm square. 9mm deep. I am selling a number of tiles this week so please have a look at my other listings. A lovely. Majolica antique tile from the Victorian age. It has a moulded leaf design in green, blue and light brown bordered with raised lines. It measures approx 6" x 6" x 1/2" It has been used before but is in good condition. No chips or cracks. The back has usual signs of pre-use. Small chips on the edges etc. which are not seen on the front. Usual light crazing. ONE TILE DOES HAVE SLIGHTLY MORE WEAR ON THE BACK AS PICTURED IT LOOKS LIKE THESE WERE USED FOR DISPLAY BASED ON THE FELT WHICH CAME OFF EASILY SHIPPING IS PRIORITY ONLY AND IT WILL BE PACKED AND THEN PACKED IN ANOTHER BOX AS THIS IS THE ONLY SET WITH THIS PATTERN THAT I HAVE SEEN BASED ON THE GLOBAL MARKING ON THE BACK THEY DATE TO C1863-1872 I HAVE ATTACHED A LITTLE HISTORICAL INFORMATION BASED ON SOME RESEARCH FROM THE ERA OF THE TILE PRODUCTION BUT I AM NOT AN EXPERT In 1870.
