A wonderful victorian fireplace tile. Earthenware clay hand painted and glazed fireplace tile. Reverse reads: Mintons China Works Stoke On Trent The embossed Minton stamp is also on the reverse. 6" square x 1/2" thick. Colours of terracotta. Stone and black. A trellis chequered design. Very gothic in style. Gothic revival stylised leaves. A typical medieval look! Not perfect. But still beautiful, a chip and a corner missing(zoom in to see these) Perfect to stand on a mantel or on a shelf purely for decoration!

Description This is a Victorian cream and brown Gothic style tile made by Maw& Co. It has the makers name on the reverse. With"Maw Floreat Salopia" in the centre and the address"Broseley Salop. Here we have for sale a wonderful rare 19th Century Victorian encaustic gothic styled tile featuring a wonderful"fleur de lys" design dating from between c1852 and c1906 made by the top quality manufacturer of the time of William Godwin of Lugwardine. Hereford, England. Fully stamped to back of tile with manufacturers name. I have around 27 tiles for sale all by W Godwin with many different gothic designs. Some are 1/2 inch thick and some are 3/4 inch thick. Some with two colours of clay, some with several colours. Sensible offers welcome on all my tiles for sale. Now here's a little piece about the company: The Godwin tile company of Lugwardine was among the more notable ... moreEnglish makers of encaustic floor tiles and many of their tiles were used in churches and public buildings in the mid to late 1800s. William and his younger brother Henry began manufacturing encaustic tiles at Lugwardine. Hereford in 1852. William had previously produced bricks at Lugwardine before his brother joined him in their new venture. Henry had prior experience with making tiles at Worcester for Maw and Co. The new joint venture was successful and the multicolored and pressed heavy floor tiles appealed to architects renovating older churches since the tiles closely mimicked the original medieval inlaid tiles. The Godwin factory produced medieval style tiles with more of a genuine historical feel than those mass produced at Minton and elsewhere. And for this reason. Godwin's tiles achieved great popularity among architects restoring churches and other old public buildings. In 1858, William& Henry Godwin produced encaustic and mosaic tiles; bricks, draining tiles and pipes, and a reportedly 850,000 bricks per year. In the 1860s, the Godwin brothers continued to experiment with more mechanical means of tile production and shifted to dust-pressed tiles. This process

Description This is a very attractive heavy Victorian encaustic floor tile made by William Godwin of Lugwardine. Hereford,the makers name is on the back. It is decorated in yellow and brown with a stylized gothic revival Fleur de Lys pattern, it dates to around 1865. The Tile has 5 chips to the surface, all on the edge, some are quite small.There is a faint glazing crack running from the rim to the centre which does not go through the tile to the other side and some small scratches to the top surface commensurate with age and wear. You are bidding on an INCREDIBLE Original Antique Block Printed Gothic Tile. Made by Minton and dating from the late 19th Century! This wonderfully decorative tile measures approximately 6" x 6" and features a stunning block printed Gothic design much in the manner of Augstus Pugin! Marked on the verso with the Minton stamp. It is in good antique condition with minimal age wear- there are a few minute pips to the glaze at the edges and maybe the odd corner rough patch, but this does not detract at all and is only mentioned for ebay accuracy(see photos) it really is a STUNNER! Victorian Mintons Pugin Gothic Style 8" Tile C1885
Description This is a very attractive Victorian Mintons 8" tile. It is decorated in dark red and gilt on a white background with a Gothic style geometric pattern. It dates to the Pugin era. Around 1885. Tiles in the same pattern but different colours are illustrated in the Minton Catalogue of 1885( Pats 609& 1801. The Mintons mark is on the reverse. The Tile has some small chips to the surface on the edges, commensurate with age and use, a chip to the base and side has been filled.There is some crazing to the top and some wear to the gilt decoration. There is a small paper label attached with the number"186" I don't know if this is a reference number for someone's collection or if it has other significance so have not removed it. Antique Tiles Gothic Victorian Art + Crafts 1880-1910 Minton Ceramic
A pair of antique English tiles dating from the 1880s through 1910. Marked clearly on the backs. The larger tile measures 4 in.² and is in a Gothic revival style. Free of chips except for a tiny corner chip but there is some light abrasion on the higher surfaces. The second tile measures 3 in.² and is in an arts and crafts style. It too is Chip free but there is surface abrasion as seen in the photos Both are 1/2 inch thick and have the same glaze. Great color and fantastic design on both.Unfortunately the condition issues. Antique art tiles made by the Trent tile company of Trenton New Jersey. Trent was one of the largest tile factories in the United States between the 1880s and the 1910s. Unmarked but a well-documented Trent design. Gothic styling in pale blue and mauve Each tile measures 3" x 3" x 4.25" An exceptional set of four for both color and condition. Triangle tiles from the Victorian era do not come much nicer than these. The central tile in the photograph is a 4 1/4 inch tile. Antique Victorian era tile made by the providential tile works-PTW-of Trenton New Jersey. Unmarked. But a back ste unique to Providential a documented design. Measures 3" x 3" x 0.5" thick Stylized acanthus leaves in a Gothic pattern. Blue glaze. A couple of edge imperfections that are glazed over and has made. The chip on the back does not compromise the integrity of the tile. Great looking tile. Very neat tile in very nice condition!
